Record 10,501 next-gen Vernas to be exported to the Middle East

Hyundai Motor India Ltd. (HMIL) has received a record initial export order of 10,501 units for the next-gen Verna from the Middle East markets, where it will be sold as the next-gen Accent. In 2018, HMIL will start exporting the model to South Africa and other countries in Asia as well.

On September 21, 2017, HMIL had invited 33 distributors from different countries including Saudi Arabia, Oman and UAE to its Chennai factory where they were given a detailed plant tour, product presentations and test drives of the next-gen Verna. Representatives from South-East Asian countries Vietnam, Philippines, Sri Lanka, etc. also attended the event.

The next-gen Verna was launched in India on August 22, 2017 with prices starting at Rs. 8.00 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). Hyundai claims that it has received 18,600 bookings since launch. In India, the Verna is offered with a 1.6-litre, 4-cylinder petrol engine which produces 121 BHP and 151 Nm and a 1.6-litre, 4-cylinder diesel engine which puts out 126 BHP and 260 Nm of torque. Both engines are offered with the choice of 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic transmissions.

Lovely news. HMIL has actually launched the car at a very reasonable price point with all the bells & whistles.

This should keep the plant operating at optimum levels resulting in better margins (as additional cars can be produced at normative cost) making full use of the assembly line infrastructure.

This should also help the company in keeping the prices stable over a longer period and maintain advantage over competition.

Agree. Excellent from Hyundai.
They recently launched a 1.2 3 cylinder diesel to get more power than the 1.1 3 cylinder diesel. if they can make a 1.5 4 cylinder diesel downsizing the current 1.6 diesel with a VGT and not a great loss in power, they could further bring down prices for the consumer

Well, they already have the 1.4 4 Cyl TurboDiesel, which is doing duty in the i20.
Do they really need another 1.5?

Yes they do. The 1.4 turbo diesel makes only 90 bhp. The 1.6 makes 127 bhp. They need a 1.5 turbo diesel with a VGT that can make 110 bhp or so. That will bring down the prices for the consumers on both the insurance and tax fronts

I am sure the existing 1.4 has potential to easily produce a hundred horses, with larger turbos etc.
The key thing is, Hyundai does not want to dish out the extra horse power, at this stage, when it's rivals in Hatchback space are offering even lesser power.

The context of me talking about a 1.5 diesel is to replace the 1.6 diesel with comparable power and torque (maybe 10% lower) to the 1.6 diesel. This could provide taxation and insurance cost benefits to consumers
