re: The 2018 next-gen Maruti Ertiga, now launched at Rs 7.44 lakhs

Rs. 1,40,000/- premium over petrol, for a decade old engine, and lesser features (no colour MID) too.

Maruti seems to be discouraging diesels.

re: The 2018 next-gen Maruti Ertiga, now launched at Rs 7.44 lakhs

  1. Diesel model prices are less for each variant compared to outgoing model. So MS has played the same way it did for Ciaz facelift launch
  2. Heartech platform and 2 star rating is a worrying factor. However there is no significant weight reduction. If you read the reports on Indonesia version, it had a reduction of 50 KG or more. However here in India the reduction is in the tune of 10/20 Kg. What a big relief
  3. Not having ESP on manual version is bad for a MPV. Same as Ciaz MT vs AT.
  4. Not having Cruise Control, Diamond cut alloys, PU Leather seats, LED Projector headlights are given a miss to contain the prices I guess. Ertiga on road - top end petrol model may be 50-70K cheaper than Ciaz top end. So you can think of items given a miss to price it less than Ciaz
  5. 50-60K difference for Head Unit with Reverse camera, voice control and Carplay without any additional safety features or other features looks steep. After market head unit with these might cost 30K or 40K I guess.

I think the reduction appears less here not because of the body shell but due to added components of SVHS. Excluding SVHS components, the weight reduction should be similar.

re: The 2018 next-gen Maruti Ertiga, now launched at Rs 7.44 lakhs

Overall seems a decent package. Looks good inside-out. The auto variant is priced at premium for a 4 speed box and the price is higher than the top Z+ petrol and very close to the Zdi variant. Could have priced the auto box a bit lower. Nevertheless, I think this product will really do well for MS as there is no other MPV in this price range. I just hope it is a safe car and scores well in the NCAP rating.

Even previous gen Ertiga's VXI AT was costing around VDI. So Petrol + AT = Diesel variant equation is maintained.

The last time Varun Dhawan endorsed a car, it didn't go down too well for the car (Read KUV100). Let's see how (un)lucky he proves for Maruti this time.

Why MS will bother to make more safer cars? They can also price it little more high for the new model after few weeks like Shark! NDTV report states waiting period of 2-3 months quoted by a dealer based on the color, variant etc. and the winner here is Petrol

re: The 2018 next-gen Maruti Ertiga, now launched at Rs 7.44 lakhs

This little tin clad people mover will sell. There is nothing else in the price bracket where this plays and that is what works for Maruti. Not to mention its projecting itself as more upmarket and stylish.
It may have a new paint and cuts and creases here and there but in the end its a very thinly built basic van.

re: The 2018 next-gen Maruti Ertiga, now launched at Rs 7.44 lakhs

Got a chance to have a glimpse of the New Ertiga at a dealership known to me. Here are few pictures that I could manage to click post dusk when it was parked at their dealership. Due to plastic covers on the seats few images may look jazzy due to reflection of the flash.

The boot is marginally bigger & should I say better. At least from the boot that the current Ertiga has, this is indeed a step forward and is surely going to stack more luggage without having to bother much about a roof carrier for short outstation trips and 7 adults.

The most significant change in terms of looks barring the redesigned front is the rear boot door:

Surprisingly, this one that I saw was a Diesel and the Engine bay was not cramped at all. Also notice the change in Air Intake and Air filter design that is different from the outgoing Ertiga:

Few shots of the exteriors:

Seating arrangement - Front Row. Also notice the Armrest which is a Standard feature in higher variants of this Ertiga:

Second Row seating:

3rd Row seating where one of the images where you notice knees barely rubbing the plastic covers is when I had adjusted the driver's seat as per my position and a regular adult (5'5") was seated in the 2nd row:

The 2018 next-gen Maruti Ertiga, now launched at Rs 7.44 lakhs-third-row-2.jpg

Shows the actual leg room that remains after fully sliding the 2nd row. Of course, its not a place to sit with 2nd row fully slid to backward position.
The 2018 next-gen Maruti Ertiga, now launched at Rs 7.44 lakhs-third-row-3.jpg

Overall impressions when compared to the outgoing Ertiga:
  • Certainly looks bigger, especially the length
  • Engine bay of the Diesel looks accessible and not cramped like earlier
  • One can slide the 2nd row all the way back and still fold the 3rd row fully flat (This was not possible in the outgoing model)
  • Space in 3rd row has improved and now can seat a regular adult without much struggle and still offers healthy leg room for all the 3 rows
  • The reclining angle for 3rd row is really good and needs to be experienced only by sitting in the 3rd row. Pictures don't do justice.
  • The Boot has got practical and can accommodate a lot more than before. The small cabinet underneath is a boon to store small or medium sized bags or make a regular luggage stand
  • Outgoing Model had a cabin light located right on top of the 3rd row. In this one, it is at the much needed 2nd row
  • The driver seating position doesn't change at all. In my current Ertiga my knees/thighs never rubbed the steering wheel and its the same in this too. I can get in and get out without rubbing my knees to the steering wheel. I can also sit and drive with both legs in parallel position than squatting position that I had to in other cars
  • Interior plastics feel the same - Not of great quality
  • From what I was told, the Pricing of the Diesel more or less remains the same as the outgoing model which IMHO should attract more buyers
  • The dealership witnessed quite a few visitors only enquiring about the Ertiga even at 22:00 Hours. Customers I noticed were usually family + extended family and one large group which looked at the boot and said no need of a carrier now

re: The 2018 next-gen Maruti Ertiga, now launched at Rs 7.44 lakhs

Definitely a sure shot winner for Maruti. I owned an Ertiga earlier and looks like it addresses all the concerns we had - less boot space with 3 row and folding 3rd row with second row moved all the way back.

This is a complete package for most families in India, without having to spend more than double on the Innova, which was always the value proposition on Ertiga. For an urban small family with 2 kids, and occasional visiting parents there is no other vehicle available, and am not sure why most manufacturers can't get the formula right for this, looks like a tough path forward for Morazzo.

At least to me the front cabin looks hideous, I just can't stand the ugly entertainment system and big vents. Hoped they could add a bigger engine into this and the package would have been ideal for an upgrade for current Ertiga owners. Is Hyundai planning something in this segment?

re: The 2018 next-gen Maruti Ertiga, now launched at Rs 7.44 lakhs

One thing which I couldn't understand, was the rationale behind providing analog temperature and fuel gauges in Petrol while skimping on it in the Diesel??

Petrol:

The 2018 next-gen Maruti Ertiga, now launched at Rs 7.44 lakhs-img20181119wa0057.jpg

Diesel:

The 2018 next-gen Maruti Ertiga, now launched at Rs 7.44 lakhs-img20181121wa0067.jpg

Swift and Dzire misses on these gauges in both Petrol and Diesel. How is it on the New Ciaz?? I am yet to see the speedo of a Diesel Ciaz
