The Datsun Redi-GO 1.0. EDIT: Launched at 3.57 lakhs

Mod Note: Our Datsun Redi-GO 1.0L Review has been taken live at this link. Please continue the discussion over on the new thread. Thanks!

If media reports are to be believed, Datsun is reportedly planning to launch 1.0-litre and AMT variants of the Redi-GO in India. The company hasn't officially commented on any such plans yet.

The Redi-GO was launched in June last year. It is currently available with a 0.8-litre, 3-cylinder engine that churns out 53 BHP and a peak torque of 72 Nm, while being mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. It is essentially based on the CMF-A platform that has been jointly developed under the Renault-Nissan alliance. As a result, it shares its powertrain and platform with the Renault Kwid.

Datsun currently sells around 2,000 units of the Redi-GO every month. In order to further boost this sales figure, the company appears to be planning to introduce more variants in the hatchback's line-up to offer customers more choices, and thus expand its target audience. These plans are similar to what Renault has done with the Kwid - introduce a 1.0-litre engine with a 5-speed manual as well as an AMT gearbox.

As a result, the Redi-GO is now expected to borrow the 1.0-litre, three-cylinder SCe petrol engine from the Kwid 1.0. This engine will be available with a 5-speed manual gearbox, while an AMT option is also highly likely to be offered, owing to the increasing demand of automatics in the entry-level segment.

re: The Datsun Redi-GO 1.0. EDIT: Launched at 3.57 lakhs

Logical. The same hardware is used by the Renault Kwid.
Both cars sit on a common platform and i guess it was more of a question of "when" rather than "if" of the 1.0 Litre powertrain being fitted to the small Datsun.

But these guys are overlooking one thing: The KWID / Redigo platform is ideal for a small, compact SUV, by small i mean around 3.6 ~ 3.7 metres. And it should be a proper SUV with looks and all.
Remember Mitsubishi PAJERO MINI? Or the Ye Old Daihatsu Terios (which floated to india as the Premier RIO)
The Target price should be 5-6lakhs on road.
Think Gypsy competitor.
If four - wheel - drive proves too costly to engineer, give it a simple mechanical limited slip differential and a low first and reverse gears, to help people clamber out of the muck.

Then sit back and see the sales graph. The cabbies in the hill stations alone will buy all.

re: The Datsun Redi-GO 1.0. EDIT: Launched at 3.57 lakhs

For a car backed by an el-cheapo image brand, the Redi-GO is selling rather well in the market (2,000 - 3,000 units per month). If the rumour is true, its sales will only increase, given that the 1.0 forms a chunk of the Kwid's sales. A 1.0 & AMT will greatly widen this Datsun's appeal.

You are comparing a cheap on-road hatchback / platform with a purpose-built offroader. Anyway, AWDs & 4x4s comprise a minute % of sales in India, hence Renault-Nissan-Datsun won't even think in that direction. A compact SUV on this platform cannot be ruled out, but it'll not have 4x4 for sure.

Rumour: Datsun Redi-GO 1.0 & AMT launch on July 19

According to media reports, Datsun is planning to launch 1.0-litre and AMT variants of the Redi-GO hatchback on July 19, 2017.

The Redi-GO was launched in June last year with a 0.8-litre petrol engine and currently sells at 2,000 units (approximately) per month. The company will be hoping to boost these figures by introducing the new variants. This is a similar strategy to that used by Renault for the Kwid when the company introduced the 1.0-litre engine with a 5-speed manual gearbox and an AMT unit.

Based on the same CMF-A platform as the Kwid, the Redi-GO is expected to borrow the Renault's 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder SCe petrol engine. This engine makes 67 BHP @ 5,500 rpm and 91 Nm @ 4,250 rpm in the Kwid and is mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. The AMT unit is likely to be the same one that is found in the Kwid as well. This transmission is developed using Bosch hardware and FEV software.

Re: Rumour: Datsun Redi-GO 1.0 & AMT launch on July 19

Sounds good. With the REDI-Go being lighter than the KWID, the larger engine and greater power should translate to spiffier performance.
Now if only Nissan can lower the car a bit and tweak the suspension and gear ratios, we may have the spiritual successor to the evergreen maruti zen!

Aesthetically, the Redi-GO 1.0L is similar to the 0.8L version. It sports a hexagonal grille in the center flanked by wraparound headlights. Re: Datsun Redi-GO 1.0L launched at Rs. 3.57 lakh

I have driven 0.8 litre Redigo quite extensively. It is a Kwid with better seats at Alto's price. But like other 800 cc engines, the engine feels sluggish specially while driving with 4-5 people on board in summers with AC on. 1litre engine will surely overcome this shortcoming. Black interiors will add some premium touch but will take away that airy feel of the cabin.

Re: The Datsun Redi-GO 1.0. EDIT: Launched at 3.57 lakhs

The pricing of the car is very good. Not only is it cheaper than the Kwid, but it undercuts the Alto K10 Vxi(O) as well. And with a power to weight ratio of 98 BHP/ton, it's a very good car in its price range. Despite the limited reach of the Nissan-Datsun service network, they are clocking decent numbers (about 2,000) over the months.
