Hyundai introduces Eon Sports Edition, gets a touchscreen AVN

Thank you to MyCarHelpline for the heads up!

Hyundai has silently introduced a Sports Edition of the Eon hatchback. This new special edition variant is available in the Era+ and Magna+ trim levels and is thus available only with the 0.8-litre engine option.

The most significant feature addition in the Eon Sports Edition is a new 6.2-inch touchscreen infotainment system that comes with phone link. This AVN unit is connected to two speakers that are located in the front doors. In addition to the updated infotainment system, the car also gets roof rails and side body moulding graphics.

No mechanical changes have been made to the Eon Sports Edition, as it continues to be powered by a 0.8-litre, 3-cylinder MPI petrol engine that is mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox and develops 55 BHP @ 5,500 rpm and 74.5 Nm of torque @ 4,000 rpm.

Prices (ex-showroom, Delhi)
• Hyundai Eon Era+ Sports Edition (Solid) - Rs. 3,88,410
• Hyundai Eon Era+ Sports Edition (Metallic) - Rs. 3,92,071
• Hyundai Eon Magna+ Sports Edition (Solid) - Rs. 4,14,457
• Hyundai Eon Magna+ Sports Edition (Metallic) - Rs. 4,18,118

Re: Hyundai introduces Eon Sports Edition, gets a touchscreen AVN

I welcome the touchscreen AV system which brings in the much needed Bluetooth functionality to the Eon. They should have made it standard on the top variant (both 0.8 & 1.0 engines) to counter the Kwid, instead of bringing out this silly "Sports" edition.

This special edition looks like a Hyundai-approved dealer modification package (or afterthought additions at the factory, maybe). They claim those are integrated roof rails, but I'm not sure if they are functional and have load-carrying ability, or if they're there just for show.

Couldn't agree more. They should've had made it standard on the top variants and also made it available as a standard accessory for existing Eon users at ASCs. With the number of Eons out there, there would have been quite a few takers.

Kwid effect. Hyundai getting a taste of its own medicine!

Other manufacturers are generally forced to offer features, those are there in Hyundai cars. Renault took the game one notch up with Kwid and Hyundai is finally falling in line.

Competition is bliss for us!

Re: Hyundai introduces Eon Sports Edition, gets a touchscreen AVN

With the current on-going mood for touch screen infotainment system, I have no doubt that the forthcoming Bharat New car safety Norms will be ditched by the Road Transport Ministry & instead New Car Stereo Systems Norms will be introduced.

Anything which moves, starting from a Cycle to Rickshaw to Car, every vehicle shall need to have a Touchscreen with 2 speakers(min).

Also, Touchscreen systems without Android Auto/Apple car play are complete waste and will not be endorsed by Govt.

I hope readers understand the criticism & anguish behind the above rant.
I feel sorry for both unaware buyers & happily obliging car makers, for whom touchscreen AV takes precedence over ABS, Airbags and structural integrity.
