What about Toyota? Are they participating? I was thinking they would showcase some of their potential cars for India - Vios, Rush, Avanza.

Mercedes-Benz reveals its 2018 Auto Expo line-up

Mercedes-Benz has revealed three new models that will take centre stage at the upcoming 2018 Auto Expo. The line-up includes the E-Class All-Terrain, Maybach S 650 limousine and the Concept EQ - showcasing future electric mobility.

The Mercedes E-Class All-Terrain made its global debut at the 2016 Paris Motor Show. It is based on the E-Class estate but features all-wheel drive, 19-inch alloy wheels and a higher ground clearance. It gets a twin-slat grille and chunky bumpers with added protection in silver-chrome. The wheel arches and underbody are lined by plastic cladding. At the rear, the loading bay gets extra outer sill protection. The E-Class All-Terrain will be launched in India sometime in 2018. It will compete with the Volvo V90 Cross Country.

The Mercedes-Maybach S 650 limousine will make its debut at the 2018 Auto Expo. It comes with various creature comforts including reclining rear seats with massage function in addition to semi-autonomous driving capabilities. It uses the same 6.0-litre, twin-turbocharged V12 engine that powers the Mercedes-AMG S 65. It produces 612 BHP @ 4,800 rpm and 1,001 Nm of peak torque @ 2,300-4,300 rpm and is paired with a 7-speed automatic transmission.

Finally, the "show car" for the 2018 Auto Expo will be the Concept EQ. It was first unveiled at the 2017 Paris Motor Show. The name 'EQ' stands for "Electric Intelligence" and the first model of the new EQ range will be an electric SUV. The car is powered by two electric motors that can deliver up to 402 BHP of peak output depending on its battery. Mercedes claims that the Concept EQ has a range of up to 500 km on a single charge.

In addition to these, Mercedes-Benz will also showcase other models like GLA 220 d 4MATIC, GLC 220 d, GLS 350 d, new E 350 d, C 250 d Edition C, C-Class Cabriolet, AMG GT R, AMG GLC 43 Coupe, AMG SLC 43 and their 2017 championship-winning Formula 1 car.

Re: The 2018 Auto Expo Thread

Seven of the top 15 car makers, three major truck makers and two global two-wheeler majors will not be present at the biennial auto show.

Reasons ?
Quote:
Muted returns on investment, the lack of major new offerings, the profile of visitors at Greater Noida, and expensive real estate are among the reasons cited by industry executives while explaining the absence of top automakers.
Quote:
There are no big launches at the auto show... Companies who do not have new models and concepts to showcase have stayed away as infrastructure costs are steep… If you keep aside the top 3-4 car makers, smaller players get lost in the clutter... They do not get the desired voice or coverage
Quote:
Volkswagen Group attributed its absence to a global review of its event and show strategy that entails major commitments by way of time and planning

Unclear long-term policy roadmap and frequent regulatory changes made it difficult to introduce new products, and that in turn prevented wider participation,

Re: The 2018 Auto Expo Thread

Though I am a bit skeptical about the investment numbers, it looks like a very expensive affair for automakers.

Most of the car makers listed in the articles are using their Indian presence for catering export markets. So they are not bothered about the crowd visiting Auto Expo. Ultimately vast majority of them going to buy Maruti or Hyundai. From Dec - 17 sales analysis chart the market share of four non-participating automakers are

Ford - 2.16%
VW - 1.41%
Nissan - 0.37%
Fiat - 0.03%

These numbers summarize the reasons.

I think in coming years Nissan, VW, and Ford may quit Indian market.

VW are done with showing fancy variants/ brand leaders like the Beetle, and Polo GTI - it was a distraction and cost money. VW seem to be focussing on the big picture - manufacturing investment in order to bring in new relevant models. Till that is complete, it is a case of incremental product management till then

I am eager to know about the vehicle in the middle. Commercial vehicle?

First one looks like a CUV/SUV and third one a premium hatchback.

Is the one in the middle actually a vehicle? If it is, it look slab-sided like a commercial van not a SUV. There's no bonnet visible even on the video.

Yes it looks like a next generation winger. The profile is similar to Mercedes viano, Renault trafic etc.

The middle one is too small to be a winger..maybe something from the ace family.

Re: The 2018 Auto Expo Thread

The third one from the lest if apparently a direct competitor to the Baleno and i20, codenamed X451. Disappointingly, it comes with the same set of engines as found in the Tiago twins, possibly in a slightly higher state of tune.

Tata is going aggressive for its Expo lineup, always great to see the company making forward strides and keeping up with the fast developing Indian automobile market.

Hope Tata unveils Tigor with a better engine specification. The only weakness in an otherwise great package.

Re: The 2018 Auto Expo Thread

Even if Tata gives a surprise and reveals the next gen Sumo replacement (Raptor platform), the middle one looks too small to be one.

Reckon its going to be one of those 'mobility concept' stuff. Though I would love to be proven wrong and be shown an all new model.

Re: The 2018 Auto Expo Thread

For some reason I do not agree with people here stating the middle car is a MUV or Winger etc.
If you guys look closely, the SUV shape is their. The angle of the video recording and camera is making it look like a flat shape. Have attached a image for reference.

The car to the extreme left has a very swooping windshield, I wonder what it is.
