Re: The 2018 Auto Expo Thread

If it makes sense, could we please have a dedicated official thread covering EV / hybrid models presented at the Expo? I think it'll be an interesting theme to cover as one topic.

A consolidated bike thread will be nice too.

Cheers

What happened to Ford India? Haven't seen anyone reporting on Ford. Are they not participating in the auto expo or they have nothing new to showcase in their arena.

DC Design unveiled their new, ultra-sleek TCA sports car.

The "Titanium, Carbon & Aluminium" 2-seater offering will see a limited production run of just 299 units. At it's heart lies a 3.8L V6 engine which belts out 320HP of power, paired to a 6-speed automatic gear box.

Priced at Rs 39 lakhs, DC Design claims that they have received 60 bookings for the TCA already. Deliveries are to commence from the festive season of 2018.

Yamaha India launched the 2018 R3 with Dual Channel ABS & Metzeler M5's at 3.48 Lakh

The 2018 Auto Expo Thread-yamahar32018pics3.jpg

2018 Yamaha R3 is priced very competitively considering the added features and what the competition offers in this 300 cc twin cylinder segment (i.e. Benelli 302R & Ninja 300-which doesn't have ABS).

Good move by Yamaha India!

Re: The 2018 Auto Expo Thread

Honda X-Blade unveiled at Auto Expo 2018. This new bike seems to be slotted in between Unicorn 160 and Hornet 160 in the Honda Motorcycles line-up.

https://www.autocarindia.com/auto-ex...po-2018-407361

Quote:
Honda will launch the new X-Blade in India by March and it will be priced between Rs 80,000 and Rs 85,000 (ex-showroom).

The basic silhouette is reminiscent of the Honda CB Hornet 160R, but Honda designers have given it sharper panels to increase its visual appeal. One is welcomed by an edgy headlight which Honda has termed 'Robo-face' and the X-Blade is the first motorcycle in the segment to get an all-LED headlight.

The bike also features a taller flyscreen, an underbelly cowl, chunky grab rails and a redesigned LED tail-lamp. The motorcycle also gets a full-digital console like the one found on the Hornet, but with the addition of a gear position indicator, service indicator, hazard lights and a white backlight.
Quote:
Powering the Honda X-Blade is the same 162.7cc air-cooled motor from the CB Hornet 160R. However, on the X-Blade, the engine makes 13.9hp at 8,500rpm and 13.9Nm at 6,000rpm in comparison to the Hornet's 15hp and 14.76Nm of peak torque. The engine is mated to a five-speed gearbox. Honda engineers have equipped the X-Blade with marginally smaller tyres; it rides on 80/110 R17 and 130/70 R17 section tyres at the front and rear (the Hornet gets 100/80 R17 and 140/70 R17 tyres). Braking duties are carried out by a disc brake at front and a drum unit at the back. What's surprising is that rear disc brake isn’t even offered as an option.

The Honda X-Blade will be available in five colour options - Matte Marvel Blue Metallic, Pearl Igneous Black, Matte Frozen Silver, Pearl Spartan Red and Matte Marshal Green Metallic.

Re: The 2018 Auto Expo Thread

This Indian Auto show has come of age. Very ably supported by a slew of new concepts especially from Indian Makers. Like the emphasis on electric mobility in the 2 wheeler segment.
TATA and TVS stand out with their attention to detail

Re: The 2018 Auto Expo Thread

Cleveland CycleWerks unveils four motorcycles at Auto Expo 2018.

https://www.autocarindia.com/auto-ex...po-2018-407379

It seems another bike manufacturer who chosen to assemble the Chinese bikes in India and sell it at a premium here. There is nothing special in these bikes to warrant INR 2-2.5 lakhs price tag . Heck, even the similar UML bikes, which are better bikes than these and with more power on tap, are priced below 2 lakhs. At this price point, these bikes are going to be dead on arrival, so why waste money on assembling these in the first place.

Re: The 2018 Auto Expo Thread

A sign of a good product is when you have your competitors trying to observe your product very closely and take notes.

We saw these folks with equipment like ruler, measuring tape, spirit level, phone based angle meter etc. measuring all possible dimensions of the Nexon and taking meticulous notes.

The 2018 Auto Expo Thread-nexoncopy02.jpg

Notice the phone based angle meter in the below pic. Was used to measure the angles of rear glass and several other places of the body.

Both were working like a machine and oblivious to people of TATA executives/staff watching them. I did ask a TATA executive about how they felt about this and they mentioned that in Auto Expo they can't stop such close scrutiny of products as it is public display of cars. Secondly, they felt that they have a good product and hence felt proud that other manufacturers wanted to find out more about it :-)

At the same time I wonder these folks wanted to take these measurements in full public view when they could easily get the car in market and study it in detail!

Yep. Likely so. Probably detailing chaps, students, etc. I don't think the competition would be so stupid as to send their undercover agents to measure up the competition's product.

Re: The 2018 Auto Expo Thread

I was shocked to not see a Ford stall at the expo, and even more shocking was the absence of VW group!

I had read on the forum earlier that they might not be putting up a stall but I hoped they'll change the decision later. I don't understand the logic behind this. I know that it involves a cost, but isn't the return much higher? Isn't branding important? Considering VW group operates 3 biggies in the Indian industry (VW, Skoda, Audi), their absence is a stupid move IMHO.
