More than anything, I am curious to see a detailed view of the rear seats and the access to it. The transition of opposite facing rear seats to front facing is certainly going to something several prospective buyers will be looking forward to.

You are probably right about the reason why the New Thar is being subjected to such extensive testing. After all, having to recall a vehicle is not only costly but also affects the brand. However, I am of the view that the reason for not showcasing the New Thar at the forthcoming Auto Expo has more to do with marketing and brand building.

I may be wrong, but the launch of this New Thar is one of the most eagerly awaited events, particularly among aficionados of retro SUVs. For example, this thread was started sometime in March 2017 and after nearly three years has over 500 post. Additionally, there are Facebook and WhatsApp groupt. All before anyone has really seen the real thing.

Additionally, the company is allocated INR 50 crores for brand building and promotions. So why share the limelight at the Auto Expo 2020 with other launches and concept cars, when you can get better mileage by having a stand alone event?

The new thar comes in three variants. The top version has front facing seats with slide and slightly tumble front passenger seat for easy access. Base variant will have regular side facing seats.

Yes, but the left front turn indicator looks like it is missing - the left side camo cutout also appears almost in line with the right side, so it should be visible

Not sure if it will be the 1.5 that develops 163hp and 280Nm, or the 2.0-litre engine that develops 190hp and 380Nm. Most likely the 1.5L.

Well, the Autocar India page says:

The 2.0-litre engine develops 190hp and 380Nm of torque, making it the most powerful Mahindra engine till date. This state-of-the-art 1,997cc engine will be installed under the hood of Mahindra’s future range of larger SUVs – like the next-gen Thar (W501). So it must be the 2.0L TGDi for Thar.

-Nice touchscreen infotainment
-Parking aids
-120-150hp
-AT. Just slap in the same Aisin 6-speed from the XUV or go for a ZF6/8

While ABS and EBD generally go hand in hand, asking for traction control on an SUV with less than 200hp won't really serve much purpose other than bragging rights. Besides, you will just have to turn it off any time you go offroading unless you want the power being cut off at the slightest amount of wheel spin.

Please Mahindra, launch an AT variant at start itself. Not a year or two later when the novelty wears off. Even if the AT variant sounds pricey, remember the next stop is Jeep Wrangler at 64 L awaaaay(sic).

Seriously mate. I too am hoping for this. Or atleast within the first year of launch. I don't mind waiting a couple of months for the niggles in the all new version to be ironed out. I just hope launch of the AT version doesn't go beyond a year of the manual.

I hope common sense prevails and M&M looks at the current market needs. With ATs slowly gaining widespread popularity.

It would be disappointing if they decide on an AMT though.
