2017 Range Rover Evoque gets new 2.0L Ingenium diesel engine; Launched @ 49.10 lakh

Land Rover has launched the 2017 Range Rover Evoque in India at prices starting from Rs. 49.10 Lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). The new Evoque gets the 2.0-litre Ingenium diesel engine, making it the first Land Rover offering in the country to be equipped with an Ingenium series engine. A 2.0-litre Si4 petrol engine will also be on offer from January 2017.

Design of the new Range Rover Evoque is similar to the earlier model. Changes include a slightly tweaked front bumper with massive air dams, new front grille and a more prominent roof-mounted spoiler. It comes with adaptive full LED headlights that also house LED DRLs. The adaptive nature of the headlights ensures that the light beam is automatically aligned with the steering inputs, thus optimising visibility during night drives.

On the inside, the Evoque gets new Oxford leather seats with twin-needle stitching, which are standard on the HSE and HSE Dynamic trim levels. It also features a new 10-inch InControl Touch Pro touchscreen infotainment system that is also standard on the HSE and HSE Dynamic models. The lower trims get an 8-inch unit. Features on offer include an 825 W Meridian Surround Sound System, Head-Up Display (HUD), InControl Apps and Powered Gesture Tailgate.

Land Rover has also launched a special edition of the Evoque, called the ‘Ember’ edition. Based on the HSE Dynamic trim, this special edition Evoque comes in a dual-tone red and black colour. The roof is finished in the Firenze Red colour, while the entire body is painted in Santorini Black. The front and rear bumpers too get a dab of red shade. The Ember dual-tone theme is continued on the interiors as well, with the Ebony black seats getting a contrasting Pimento red stitch.

Powering the new Range Rover Evoque is the new 2.0-litre Ingenium diesel engine that is rated at 177 BHP. This engine is mated to a 9-speed Automatic Transmission that delivers power to all four wheels. The Ingenium series of engines are claimed to be around 20 kg lighter than their equivalent previous generation engines. They feature computer-controlled adaptive engine cooling and latest generation variable geometry turbocharger.

The 2017 Evoque also comes standard with the Torque Vectoring feature that continuously monitors the vehicle and balances the distribution of torque between all four wheels to improve grip and steering, depending on the nature of terrain.

Bookings for the 2017 Range Rover Evoque are now open at all JLR dealerships in India. Variant-wise ex-showroom Delhi prices are as follows:
• Range Rover Evoque 2.0 L Diesel Pure: Rs. 49.10 Lakh
• Range Rover Evoque 2.0 L Diesel SE: Rs. 54.20 Lakh
• Range Rover Evoque 2.0 L Diesel SE Dynamic: Rs. 56.30 Lakh

One of the most grossly overpriced cars in India. The good variants cost 65 - 75 lakhs on the road. You're paying that kind of money for a 10-year old car (it's based on the Freelander 2), 4-cylinder engine and interior space that's comparable to a VW Vento.

The only talking point of the Evoque has been its styling.

What makes this price absolutely unpardonable is that the Evoque is assembled in India (no CBU taxes)!

+1.

It has been the styling alone which has been pulling in customers for Evoque. So much so that LR launched a convertible version of the popular 'SUV'. The last I read, the convertible was sold out globally. We can't blame company for milking the model when there is such a mad rush for this model.

On another note, has anyone noticed that after the success of Evoque, Land Rover has borrowed design/style elements from Evoque to its entire range of models (new line-up)? I can see a hint of Evoque in the new Discovery and the might Range Rover and the RR Sport.
