Anyway, the colour is not something photos can do justice to, and the car looked like a true blue (pun intended) Green monster on the road!

Dear Fellow members,

800 is the payload for the Safari as in 800kg, and if anyone has doubts, please check with Tata or IA.

Here is a press release from Tata.

https://www.tatamotors.com/press/tat...or-3192-units/

Category: 4x4 (4WD)
Power : 156ps
Torque: 400Nm
Ground Clearance: 200mm

Tata has been supplying vehicles to IA under 6x6, 8x8 and 12x12 categories.

Guys, please do not get confused with the numbers of figures of the vehicle specifications mentioned.

Safe Driving to all!

Re: Indian Army's new official vehicle - the Tata Safari Storme!

I think that the 800nm torque was referring to available torque in "4x4 Low" mode. With 1:2 ratio of transfer box, 400 gets you 800 (of course at half the wheel RPM).

Re: Indian Army's new official vehicle - the Tata Safari Storme!

And now this rumour has been picked up by news publications!! I wonder if kindergarten kids work as correspondents here.

According to new information from Tata Motors, the engine of Tata Safari Storme GS800 has been modified too and produces 70% more power and 200% more torque than the standard. If this is true, then the GS800 is likely to make around 265 hp of power and a massive 800 Nm of torque than the stock car.

Re: Indian Army's new official vehicle - the Tata Safari Storme!

As for the vehicle itself, the Tata Safari Storme GS800 has been specially designed to meet the requirement of the Indian Army, and it comes with a payload capacity of 800 kg, 60% more than the standard model!

Engine: 2.2 Turbo Diesel
Power : 156PS
Torque: 400Nm
Payload: 800kg
Ground Clearance: 200mm

We all know the experience of correspondents of print and electronic media, specially when it comes to technical reporting!

I have seen episodes of few auto shows on TV with some correspondents or anchors with pathetic knowledge about the vehicle specifications.

Drive Safe.

Sort of a proud moment for #makeinindia . Wishing Tata much success.

Good to see a non-hummer like design for the armed forces.

Re: Indian Army's new official vehicle - the Tata Safari Storme!

Power to weight ratio may be of a concern considering the weight of Safari. Ability to make it bullet proof though is an advantage for Safari. We should get better clarity once these green berets complete one year across India in various demanding terrain and climates

Waiting for the first set of these to be auctioned off by the Army.

Keep spotting many in our roads in Pune mostly in the Cantonment area. They look great up close and good vehicle for Army use and great branding/marketing for Tata Safari.

Re: Indian Army's new official vehicle - the Tata Safari Storme!

In my opinion, the GS800 should have sported metal/steel rims rather than alloy rims.

Since the vehicle will be used in multi terrain conditions, and in case the steel rims get bent, they can be hammered back into shape in comparison to the alloy rims.

Also, with the spare tyre on the rear door, it would have made space for 2nd fuel tank for a longer travel distance for the GS800!

Well, from the photos it looks that GS800 would do more ON ROAD duty as a CO vehicle rather than as a troop carrier in deployment areas in multi terrain OFF ROAD conditions!

A dumb question.
Where is the door handle to open up the tail gate?

I'm guessing that's hidden below the Storme badging on the LHS. You can also see a key slot there.

It is concealed above the number plate and behind the strip that runs between the tail lamps.

It's unlikely to be there as the tailgate of Safari is opened sideways and not upwards.

I think its hidden below the Storme badging on the LHS. You can also see a key slot there.
