Porsche will be launching the Macan R in India on November 15, 2016. This variant will become the new entry-level model of the Macan SUV range in the country.

Currently, the Macan is offered in three variants in India: a 3.0-litre Macan S Diesel with 242 BHP, a 3.6-litre Macan Turbo Petrol with 396 BHP and a Macan Turbo Petrol with Performance Package that uses the same 3.6-litre engine but has 434 BHP on tap. All these models are priced upwards of Rs. 1 Crore.

The new Macan R will be slotted below this range, and will likely be powered by a 2.0-litre petrol engine that will churn out 249 BHP and 370 Nm of torque. It will have a claimed 0-100 km/h sprint time of 6.7 seconds while the top speed will be rated at 229 km/h.

Porsche will most likely place it to compete against the recently unveiled Jaguar F-Pace.

First thing I thought when I saw this post was a high-performance Macan, a la the 911R. This nomenclature is quite misleading wrt the Macan, especially when you consider P car's recent hoopla around the R.

Porsche Macan R4 launched in India at Rs. 76.84 lakh

Porsche India has launched the Macan R4 at a price of Rs. 76.84 lakh (ex-showroom, Maharashtra). It is the new entry-level version of the Macan range in India.

The Macan R4 is powered by a 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder, turbocharged petrol engine that generates 249 BHP and 370 Nm of torque. It is mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch PDK gearbox, which sends power to all four wheels. With this powertrain, the car is capable of completing the 0-100 km/h sprint in a company claimed time of 6.7 seconds. The R4's top speed is rated at 229 km/h.

The SUV has been given features like Porsche Traction Management (PTM), Automatic Brake Differential (ABD) and anti-slip regulation (ASR). This system analyzes the car's driving characteristics in real time to modulate the power transmission in varied situations. The Macan R4 also features the electronically controlled Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM). The company claims that PASM has been programmed to automatically reduce body movement depending on the road condition and driving style.

Standard features on the Macan R4 include 18-inch wheels, powered tailgate, Alcantara middle seat panels and a lane departure warning system. The driver seat offers 8-way electric adjustment.

The R4 will be the fourth variant in the Macan line-up in India, after the 242 BHP Macan S diesel, the 396 BHP Macan Turbo petrol and the 434 BHP Macan Turbo petrol with Performance Package. Except the R4, all other Macan variants are priced higher than Rs. 1 Crore.

With the Macan R4, Porsche is targeting to compete with the recently unveiled Jaguar F-Pace, which has a starting price of Rs. 72.6 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).

Agreed.

I was expecting a hard-core, track-focused, tech-laden (read: SPASM, Sport Chrono, etc.) variant of the Macan. However, this is quite the damp-squib. Even the wheels look uninspiring.

But I suppose it will attract a larger crowd who'd previously found the Macan to be out of reach.

Saw one last night and by god, it looks awesome on the road. The design is very proportionate & meaty, while those tail-lamps looked absolutely gorgeous at night. In terms of styling, I think Porsche has nailed it. I didn't expect the Macan to look so nice in person.

Will people buy a Jeep Wrangler vis a vis this new Porsche Macan?
Yes they are of two different classes entirely.
And different applications too.

But seriously, in India, this kind of price point looks really unattainable, at least for someone like me, for the rest of my life!

I guess soon, the used market will be awash with all these lovely vehicles at slightly more affordable prices...

The only other way possibly, is the "lease" method if one can afford the lease payments each month!

This car does excite the "not so serious" auto enthusiasts too. A friend of mine, with some 4-5 guys test drove this and all were completely blown away. They simply loved the handling and dynamics. And this is after couple of other test drives which included F-Pace, XC 90, Discovery etc. The best part is that the car impressed him so much that he didnt even bother to realize that the car will be chauffeur driven 99% of the time (he shares the front passenger seat always). Anyways, he's convinced with the car and might strike the deal sometime in Q1 2017. It's around 1cr for the base and 1.1cr for the fully loaded car (Bangalore). He currently drives a petrol Q5 and Laura.

PDF Attached. This would make a good buy now. I love what they've done with the interior. The S sticker price is definitely good news. This is the price Macan should have been launched at.
