Re: Scoop! 2017 Jeep Compass spotted in India

The Compass spotted on test together with the Renegade!

Quote:
we have here images of the Compass testing in India along with the Renegade. The Renegade has been spied testing many times before but it is not coming to India. In terms of dimensions the Compass is similar to something like a Hyundai Tucson yet looks less like a crossover and has more presence than any of its rivals.

The implementation of traditional Jeep styling cues gives it an advantage of being more of a rugged SUV. It exudes a shrunken Grand Cherokee vibe with the seven-slat grille and squared off wheel arches. Clearly looks would be one of the USPs of the Compass.

Re: Scoop! 2017 Jeep Compass spotted in India

The 2017 Compass has been launched at the ongoing Guangzhou Auto Show in Beijing, with prices starting from 1,70,000 Yuan (roughly Rs 16.82 lakh).

Apart from the 3 regular variants (Sport, Longitude & Limited), the all-new Compass is also offered in a top of the line Trailhawk 4WD variant too, which is priced at 2,40,000 Yuan (roughly Rs 23.74 lakh).

Prices are a good indication of what we can expect Jeep India to price the Compass in India, when it is launched in H2 2017.

China is the second manufacturing hub for the all-new Compass, after Brazil.

Quote:
The Chinese spec gets all the features which are expected to be provided in India. This includes an 8.4-inch infotainment screen, Uconnect system, engine start/stop button, adaptive cruise control, advanced brake assist, Selec-Terrain with five terrain settings, leather seats and a host of active and passive safety and security features.

Re: Scoop! 2017 Jeep Compass spotted in India

A couple of Jeep Compass SUVs have been spotted while on a testing run in Mumbai.

Quote:
From the first look, the overall appearance of the test mules easily hinted at this being a Jeep vehicle. Closer inspection revealed that it is the same Compass model, which the automaker unveiled at the Los Angeles Motor Show. And even if it's hard to pull out many exterior details from these camouflaged vehicles, we couldn't see any major component changes. Jeep’s trademark seven-slot grille, trapezoidal wheel arches and a cabin that spells class and comfort reminds you of the larger sibling - the Grand Cherokee.

The Jeep Compass will be introduced in the Chinese market next month.

The 80% localised Indian version of the Compass will be launched in our market sometime after mid-2017.

Re: Scoop! 2017 Jeep Compass spotted in India

A test mule running in Pune was captured on camera by a Motorbeam spy.

Quote:
On the styling front, while the prototypes reveal little about the Compass, we know that a lot of exterior styling cues are borrowed from the Grand Cherokee to accentuate a premium look.
Globally, the Compass will be sold with a mix of petrol and diesel engines with both automatic and manual gearboxes and 4WD configuration. India is expected to at least get a 2.0-litre diesel variant but nothing is confirmed at present.

There seems two mules, one ahead of the cash van. Strange that the mule is registered in MH, it's usually TN as Renault has their factory in TN.

Actually two of them were out for testing. The cars were parked and ready to roll in front of my housing society. Lots of FCA guys live here and the cars were here to pick them. I was able to click only one picture. Looked like they were headed for some hill section trials with full load (passenger and luggage). I can only tell that the start/stop button is placed below steering (place where current Fiat cars have key ignition)

Re: Scoop! 2017 Jeep Compass spotted in India

Two mules have arrived in Bosch campus day before for testing along with a couple which were already being tested. The first 2 has white camouflage while the recently arrived has back like the above. Everything on the vehicles were masked with tapes including the wheel hubcaps. No photographs allowed inside the campus, so sorry.

The Compass and the Renegade spotted testing together again! (the tail lamp sections are a clear giveaway)

This time by an NDTV Auto reader.

I'm seriously anxious to know what kind of pricing strategy Jeep would come out with for both of these cars. There have been many assumptions and guesses but if Jeep really wants to make a mark in India then they need to get this right. I don't mean the lowest pricing possible but also how they stack up the engines and features vs the competition. For example if the compass is to be around the 25-30 lakh pricing how is it going to outdo say the Hyundai Tucson?

I think fiat's chances of staying alive in India depends on Jeep and they need to get it right come what may else it's over for them.

Agreed! I am sure they are aware of this fact. The intent behind atrociously high pricing of the initial launches could be to create a perception of 'premium' brand so that when they bring in their more affordable launches, these are lapped up by the market. I, for one, am eagerly awaiting the launch of the Compass and have put my upgrade plans on hold till then. My biggest apprehension is around the safety kit offered on the Compass. Ford really disappointed me by giving only 2 airbags on the Trend variant. In today's safety-conscious market, that is a no-no for a 30 lac car. In fact, Fortuner has 7 airbags as standard across all variants. This was a deal breaker for me and for many others as well, I guess. Hope FCA does due diligence on this front.
