Now if the new Dzire is going to be priced even 30K more than the current Dzire, the relevance of Dzire vis a vis the Baleno is only going to go down further. Comparisons of the prices (ex Delhi) of the Baleno to it's equivalent variant of the current Dzire is attached for reference. I wouldn't be surprised if the Zxi AGS variant of the new Dzire is priced more than the Baleno CVT.
That's a great comparison! Thanks for that. Helps to really evaluate how these cars are priced and the strategy difference between the two. I think this is going to be similarly priced.

But I am mightily impressed with the new design! It looks simply amazing from the side, especially with those new rims and the sloping profiles over the front and rear wheel arches.

To be very honest, just in terms of design and functionality, this new Dzire is much better than the Baleno. IMHO

Keeping aside the fact how hideous ALL Swift Dzires have always been, kudos to Maruti for delivering 3 iterations in 9 years. That's truly impressive. They could have gotten away with a longer change interval but they didn't.

Front has striking resemblances to Mini-Cooper?

Styling is not to my liking. Although the wheel arches and side look good, front is just confusing. It isn't completely cute or butch. Rounded lamps and grille with an angular bumper. Whats going on? And that sharp rear just does not go with the more bulbous side and front profile.
Styling aside, the steering wheel has finally changed. Thumb contours and all. The faux wood looks cheap though. Same with the faux wood on the dash. And I sincerely hope the white dashboard plastic is not similar in feel to that in the ignis. It felt cheap there, will feel worse here. And seriously, paint the boot on the inside. That just doesn't cut it in a car costing this much.
Although practically it is a much better car with more space on the inside. Performance will be better as well considering the lower weight. Runaway hit for sure, but has typical Maruti shortcomings which we bhpians would typically grouch on.

Re: Caught testing! The 2017 Maruti Dzire

Folks can say whatever they want, but there's no denying that this is the best looking car to carry the DZire moniker. Both the earlier DZires were not desirable in terms of design. This one is. It may not win a Car Design of the Year award, but it's a good, cohesive design with the right proportions, and for a sub-4m compact sedan, that's saying a lot.

Also, Maruti Suzuki have (thankfully!) decided to ditch those wheel-cap like alloy designs they were fond of. This two-tone alloy design is as good as any out there in this price range.

One regressive step is the replacement of the 4-speed TC gearbox of the current DZire petrol with the cheaper, jerky AMT on the new one. I don't understand why they had to do this. They could have kept the AMT for the diesel and stuck to the smooth, desirable TC on the petrol. Fuel efficiency is not everything, for gearbox performance, smoothness & reliability also matter!

Kudos to them for making dual airbags & ABS standard across the range on the new model. I hope those rear height-adjustable neck restraints are also standard.

Re: Caught testing! The 2017 Maruti Dzire

Taking cues from this new gen DZire, can they bring a Baleno sedan? It can play in a slightly upper segment of Ciaz, with an extra-spacious passenger cabin, 1.6L Multijet and 1.4L Boosterjet engines, no cost cuttings and with an "RS" Performance tag?

Is it the angle of the picture? The windows look rather too small, in case of emergency, retrieval of the passengers might be close to impossible. The amount of claustrophobic feeling will be pronounced too. Not sure how much of beige has been poured out on the interiors.

Just too much flabs on the sides, looks yuck to me as ever! But, this will sell

Just noticed, very creative sir. Looks quite nice, are you into automobile designing by any chance?

Re: Caught testing! The 2017 Maruti Dzire

Dzire as a package does look impressive.I would have been happier if this was more than 4m in length since it would have been a good sedan to buy below CIAZ.

It would have provided a good differentiation between this one and Baleno.
As far as design is concerned, this one is clearly inspired by Maserati.

Hope you were not teasing me.

Automobile is my passion, not profession.

Pardon my ignorance, but where is the bumper at the rear?

God save you if you're rear ended in this car!

Re: Caught testing! The 2017 Maruti Dzire

And yet another blockbuster from the MS stable

Personally I still can't digest the whole CS concept, but then if the previous gen DEZIRE can sell this will do wonders for Maruti for sure. And 100kgs lighter means they(MS) can further cash-in on their 'Kitna Deti Hai' tagline

P.S : Its amazing to see how brand perception works in our country. Only if this was a design from one of the lesser popular brands, it would have been written off in a jiffy but since its a Maruti lots of positive reactions can be seen(even here). Goes on to show how important it is to build a TRUST. Way to go MS.

The 1.6L MJD on a Baleno with its ultra diet chassis will probably twist the chassis with the kind of torque it delivers. The kind of beast the 1.6L MJD is, nothing less than the S-Cross from the Maruti stable will be capable of handling the power. Not even the Ciaz IMO.

The second gen Dzire itself has such a tinny engine bay and front. If there is a further reduction in weight, I hope that is by the newer chassis member design and no more metal-on-diet panels.

IAB has a answer for you.

What if the new Maruti Dzire had a proper boot?

How the 2017 Maruti Dzire would have looked if it had a proper boot like a regular global B-segment sedan

Looks even more Proportionate & Better, doesn't it ?

If the front end is inspired. So is the steering wheel.
