Which one is coming to India?
The shorter 4.5m version, which will be priced against the higher variants of the CR-V/Tucson and the base variants of the Endeavour/Fortuner.

Engine option will be limited to a 2.0L, 1968cc 4-cylinder turbocharged diesel which will be mated to a 7-speed DSG gearbox.

No confirmation on a petrol option yet.

re: Volkswagen imports the Tiguan. EDIT: Launched at Rs. 27 - 31 lakhs

It seems Volkswagen likes to learn lessons in the Indian Market the hard way . Had they priced it along the likes of Tucson , it would have been a much better option considering the way Volkswagen tend to build their cars & the overall perceived quality is way better than the competition . If they launch an AWD version with DSG it could be priced even higher than the top end Toyota Fortuner & would end up competing with the likes of the Santa Fe .

VW shouldn't waste their resources by placing both the Kodiaq and the Tiguan in the same price brackets. I read somewhere that Skoda wants get the Kodiaq as a 7 seater version in India. I think that would make perfect sense since it would give them a crack at the Fortuner and the Endeavour. On the other hand the Tiguan can be a 5 seater version that takes the Tucson head on.

re: Volkswagen imports the Tiguan. EDIT: Launched at Rs. 27 - 31 lakhs

A completely uncamouflaged test mule of the Volkswagen Tiguan was spotted on the Mumbai-Pune expressway by Carwale spies.

The Tiguan test mule was accompanied by a Passat test mule.

As per Africa Automobiles (Volkswagen East Delhi) , expect Tiguan to launch before 15th April with prices matching the Audi Q3 .

re: Volkswagen imports the Tiguan. EDIT: Launched at Rs. 27 - 31 lakhs

Internationally, the SWB Tiguan has always been a competitor to the Tucson. If the rumours are true, then I am not sure what VW's strategy is for this. I would understand if they bring in the LWB version with 7 seats and price it higher.

This will only make the Tucson looks VFM (in reality it is not) and encourage Hyundai to further increase prices as time passes by.

re: Volkswagen imports the Tiguan. EDIT: Launched at Rs. 27 - 31 lakhs

As per NDTV Auto's sources, Volkswagen India will open bookings for the Tiguan SUV from April 2017 onwards, while the launch will take place in May 2017.

Quote:
The Volkswagen Tiguan is based on the carmaker's popular MQB platform and it is 60mm longer and 30mm wider and sits 33mm lower than the older model. This is the first time the Tiguan brand will come to India. The wheelbase of the new Tiguan has been increased by 77mm to 2681mm, which means there's more space on the inside. The new Volkswagen Tiguan has also shed some weight as it now weighs 50kg less than before.

The Volkswagen Tiguan will come powered by a 2.0 litre TDI diesel engine that is capable of churning 147bhp. The 1968cc turbocharged motor will come mated to the company's tried and tested 7-speed DSG automatic unit. The Volkswagen Tiguan will come to India as a completely built unit and this will make it pricey.

Thanks!

7-DSG? Which is this unit? Is it the infamous DQ200 dry clutch unit rated at max torque of 250Nm? Or the DQ350 with a higher torque rating?

I believe this is the new DQ500 gearbox that is rated for 600 NM Torque limit. This is being rolled out across larger VW cars and SUVs built on the MQB platform. A sister gearbox of this called DQ501 has been introduced in India on the recently launched Audi A4 Diesel (for longitudinal engine applications on the MLB platform), this car is rated at 400 NM.

Yup the DQ500 ,which in India, was there only in Audi Q3 quattro earlier. It is replacing DQ250 in many of the higher power/torque applications (Audi S3, new Octy vRS etc). Previous gen Tiguan also had the DQ500 box while the Yeti always got only DQ250. Kodiaq will also have DQ500.

DL501 to be precise. In India, it was available earlier with Audi S4/S5, A6 3.0tfsi/3.0tdi, Q5 3.0TDI. The box is originally rated well above 400NM as those diesels were producing 500Nm+ back then. But all those variants where quattro models, this is the first time DL501 is being provided with a FWD variant (new A4 1.4TFSI & 2.0TDI).

re: Volkswagen imports the Tiguan. EDIT: Launched at Rs. 27 - 31 lakhs

Caught testing without any camouflage by Rush Lane reader Shariyar Sheikh.

Quote:
The front facsia would comply with the brand’s latest design theme with narrow chrome grille which seamlessly integrates itself into slender headlamps. In profile, the new SUV gets a clean sheet metal design with a fine waistline, chrome rub strips, blacked out B-pillar and a tapering C-pillar.
The rear fascia sports a well proportioned windshield, two-part angular combination lights that extend from rear fenders all the way up to tailgate, a thin chrome strip on the bumper and a black diffuser with twin circular tailpipes.

The Tiguan is priced along side the Tucson in other markets.
Given the fact that it is getting assembled in India, we may see it priced around 25-30Lakh, which is Tucson territory.

However ,in other markets, it sits just above the Passat in terms pricing.
If it follows the same trend in India then the pricing could go into 30-35lakh range.
