re: 2017 VW Passat 2.0 TDI spotted in India. EDIT: Launched at 30 lakhs

I like the understated look of the car. But I really hope VW give customers some better options for the rims. The rims on the test car remind me of the boring 'Perugia' alloys offered on the Comfortline variant of the B7 Passat. I prefer the more sporty 'Barcelona' rims that the Highline variant came with.

Hopefully VW won't kill the new car with horrible pricing. I would happily buy one if it were in the region of 32 L - 35 L (on-road). Anything above that would push it too close to C-Class/3-Series/A4 territory and kill it immediately, IMO.

The Vento looked awesome with the new DRL's

The Passat was a little under whelming

Lets see if I have the footage from the dashcam

re: 2017 VW Passat 2.0 TDI spotted in India. EDIT: Launched at 30 lakhs

New Volkswagen Passat India launch most likely in January 2017.

Quote:
The new Passat will be coming with a 180hp, 1.8-litre TSI turbo-petrol engine; prices expected to start from Rs 27 lakh.
Quote:
While the model will initially be launched as a petrol only, VW plans to bring in a 2.0-litre diesel engine at a later stage. Also planned is the launch of a plug-in hybrid Passat GTE to cater to the growing interest in alternative-fuel cars in the country. When launched, the GTE will be available in limited numbers only with the automaker looking to test the model’s feasibility for the country.

2 comments:

1. Surprised at the low price point (1.8 TSI Passat Comfortline?) of 27 lakhs

2. 1.8 in 180 bhp tune means same as Octavia and Superb. Why not the Polo GTI tune of 194 mph to differentiate or even the new 2.0 TSI with 220 mph?

3. Usage of the 1.8 even though it is likely to be phased out soon globally.

re: 2017 VW Passat 2.0 TDI spotted in India. EDIT: Launched at 30 lakhs

Like to like - Passat HL will very likely trump the Superp L&K in price presuming they will match out in features. So I don't think Passat is coming out to be any cheaper. Either ways, the expected price points were ~35-40L OTR when checked with VW last year during unveiling of Passat here in Bangalore.

I presume you meant 194 bhp and 220 bhp in the note below?

And at the risk of infraction from the moderators, couldn't help grinning when you wrote "2 comments" and went on to put 3 bullet points Pointing out in jest, of course.

But overall, still a positive news as the original intent was shared to be starting the launch with only the GTe version which would be in vicinity of 40-45L (I am guessing).

re: 2017 VW Passat 2.0 TDI spotted in India. EDIT: Launched at 30 lakhs

The 2.0 TDI version has been caught on camera completely undisguised by Overdrive spies.

Quote:
The particular test mule that we spotted has a 2.0TDI badge. Additionally, it did not feature the LED DRLs that the GTE variant gets. We believe this particular version will be positioned below the GTE. It will come equipped with a new twin turbo four-cylinder diesel engine that puts out 240PS of peak power and generates an impressive torque of 500Nm. This motor is mated to a 7-speed DSG gearbox, sending power to all four wheels. The other engine that will be offered in the Passat is the 1.8 TSI that makes 170PS and 249Nm of torque.

re: 2017 VW Passat 2.0 TDI spotted in India. EDIT: Launched at 30 lakhs

What I understand from pune dealer is, it might take another 6 months to launch passat.
I am planning to replace my comfortline MT with automatic petrol version.

Does anybody know whether 1.8TSI DSG is expected?
I had a test drive with superb TSI DSG, that was good.
I did not like the interiors of superb, when I compare it with my current passat. Its not bad, however it doesn't look that premium.

re: 2017 VW Passat 2.0 TDI spotted in India. EDIT: Launched at 30 lakhs

A convoy of new launches (2017) from VW seen testing not too far from VW’s plant in Chakan, Maharashtra. Both the Passat and Tiguan wwill get the same 2.0L TDI in different states of tune.

Quote:
The Passat, will most likely start at Rs 25 lakh and will go up against the Toyota Camry and Honda Accord, apart from competing with its cousin, the Skoda Superb. While Volkswagen did showcase the Passat (now in its eighth-generation) hybrid, aka the Passat GTE, at the auto expo, it looks like VW will be taking the traditional route and launch the sedan only with a 2.0-litre diesel engine, paired with a six-speed DSG automatic transmission. Since the powertrain is shared with the Skoda Superb, expect it to produce the same 177PS of power and 350Nm of torque

Spotted un-camouflaged on a testing run by a Motorbeam reader.

The new-generation Passat is built on the brand’s MQB platform. The sedan gets lots of major changes over the previous generation.
Volkswagen plans to bring the diesel-powered Passat to India first. Under the hood, it is the same 2.0-litre oil-burner which is shared with other VAG cars. This will come mated to a 6-speed DSG transmission and will make 187 HP of power.
Prices for the Passat are expected to be in the range of Rs. 28-32 lakhs (ex-showroom) and it will compete with the Skoda Superb, Honda Accord and Toyota Camry.

Volkswagen starts production of new Passat in India

Volkswagen has announced that it has started production of the new Passat at its Aurangabad facility.

The eighth-generation Passat was unveiled in July 2014. In February 2017, Volkswagen had confirmed that car would be launched by the end of the year.

The company had launched the Passat in India back in 2011 and discontinued it in 2013.

The Passat will be Volkswagen's first MQB platform-based sedan in India. Initially, only a 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder diesel engine will be available in the car. The unit churns out 175 BHP and is paired with a 6-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. The exact specifications and variant information will be disclosed later.

Volkswagen is expected to position the Passat against the Honda Accord, Skoda Superb and Toyota Camry.

re: 2017 VW Passat 2.0 TDI spotted in India. EDIT: Launched at 30 lakhs

What is the expected price point? Any clue? Going by their "positioning" it is anything between 35-50L! I am going by the price of Accord hybrid for the upper range. I love this car and next to Octavia RS, this is the one I would like to buy.
