That, definitely isnt true imho. Though I own a Ciaz ZDI, I would love to own the 85bhp altis as my next car, and I would feel that it is an upgrade in all ways except power output.

Ciaz is just a successful car, Corolla is a legend

re: Toyota Corolla Altis Facelift. EDIT: Launched at Rs. 15.88 lakh

For a car costing close to twenty lakhs giving a 88 bhp is the biggest let down. The fact that they persist with the same unit shows their confidence in the product but a lack of disrespect towards buyers wishes. Toyota Corolla will still continue to be the segment leader, but a better cabin and more powerful choice of engines with the legendary Toyota reliability would have made more smiles per drive.

Very much offtopic here:- Is it just me or do you all feel that corolla altis just does not feel a premium luxury car. The kind of luxury exuded by say a laura.

I completely concur with your argument there. Right from exterior looks to the road presence and the quality of interiors, I feel Corolla lags way behind German rivals. If you consider safety features as well as built quality, Corolla feels like as it is from a segment below. With the launch of new Civic, Corolla will have a tough battle in its hand, as Honda can surely match Toyota in reliability, ASS and resale value , the three factors where it trumps its German rivals.

Coming from someone who owns another Japanese D segment sedan, I found the new Corolla to be massively disappointing when it was launched. Sure it is still a more complete car than a City or Ciaz, but by a very small margin. The interior quality of plastics, the design and the drive, were all strictly average. In this generation I honestly don't understand how average sells anymore. I even had a chance to sit in the car on multiple occasions and never understood what all the fuss about its rear bench was. It was good but definitely not great. The support, contouring of seats and quality of leather on my Kizashi's rear bench outclassed the feel of the Corolla. Even my father agreed and he is a die-hard fan of the Corolla. Even the new Octavia's rear seat felt better in comparison to the Corolla. Laura wasn't all that great from a comfort standpoint IMO.

any idea if this would be getting rear AC vents. in Indian climate it is must during the Summers and Corolla definitely lack the same. Some people claim the AC is strong enough and they do not feel the issue but i still feel for more balanced cooling in Indian environment it is required for sure.

Changes to the exterior include redesigned front-end with sleeker LED headlamps, radiator grille and bumper; new design 16- and 17-inch alloy wheels, thinner chrome boot applique and new LED-powered taillamps. Three new exterior color choices have been introduced: Platinum Bronze, Tokyo Red and Earth Bronze.
Changes are limited in the interior which features new HVAC controls on the centre console and vents on the dashboard, improved quality of materials and upholstery, and new standard Touch 2 infotainment system with navigation.
The 11th-gen Corolla Altis facelift is expected in India by mid-2017.

No cruise control, no rear parking sensors/camera except maybe in topmost variant, no GPS? What is Toyota thinking, I wonder. Really taking Indian customers for granted!

With Hyundai Elantra launched last month, I think Corolla will take a hit.

re: Toyota Corolla Altis Facelift. EDIT: Launched at Rs. 15.88 lakh

In the 2016 petrol model, cruise control is available only in the top end VL automatic transmission variant.

In the 2017 petrol model that is expected next year, any idea if cruise control will be available in the *manual* transmission variant too (GL manual)?

Knowing Toyota I would expect cruise control to be available only in top most variant. It is available only in top most variant in 2017 Altis in Malaysia (https://toyota.com.my/vehicles/car/c...ceSpecsSection) and Thailand (http://www.toyota.co.th/en/model/altis).

One good thing to note is in Malaysia and Thailand, now they are offering 7 airbags as standard across all variants. I hope they offer 7 airbags as standard across all variants in India too.

Thanks Simhi.

Elantra offers cruise control in manual tranny variant too (SX(O), IIRC).

It'll be interesting to see how Elantra affects Corolla sales and how Toyota responds to that.

While the basic profile of the car remains unchanged, the front now takes inspiration from Toyota’s latest design language, with sharper looks, courtesy the sleeker headlamps and a slimmer grille. The new Corolla is likely to come with the bi-beam LED headlamps like the ones on the Fortuner, and there will be minor tweaks to the rear, such as the all-new LED tail-lamps.

There are also likely to be some major changes on the inside. The dashboard and central console have revised layouts and will come with soft-touch surfaces. The infotainment touchscreen is larger and the controls for air con and side AC vents will use a new rotary design.

I hope Toyota improves the safety quotient like they have done for the Crysta and Fortuner. Two airbags won't cut the ice in my opinion.
