Doesn't it qualify for the same benefits as MS Ciaz enjoys in Delhi-NCR?
Then prices should actually go down in there.
Adding such hybrid system doesn't allow this 2.2 liter engine to ply on NCR roads?

My question: Isn't it too much of money they are asking for it?
I couldn't really keep a track but is that price an upward revision of the earlier price in Mumbai? The price of equivalent 1.99 models in NCR is higher as of now. Wonder how much benefit of the NEMMP scheme has been passed through.

I was having similar thoughts, but I guess it doesn't. Otherwise it would 've been simpler for Mahindra to introduce this feature rather than coming out with a new engine in the 1.99 trim. As GTO earlier mentioned, it would get the exemption during the odd-even regime in line with Ciaz in case the 2000 cc ban is lifted in future.

Well, if CarWale is to be believed, the erstwhile non IntelliHybrid S10's ex-showroom cost in Navi Mumbai was ₹13,14,580/-. As per IAB's report, the IntelliHybrid S10's ex-showroom price is ₹12.84 lacs. So, it does look like some amount of benefit has indeed been passed over to us. Someone from Navi Mumbai can shed more light on this.

Hi Sutripta,
Yes, I guess that's about right. Till a few years back one would come across the odd snippet about Mahindra's plans for the N. American market, and then these too petered out.
Cracking the US market has proved to be the Fort Knox for more worthies than M&M (Peugeot for one). You can't help wondering why Dr. Arun Jaura (Ch. Tech. Officer for Mahindra group) quit M&M when he led the team which presented the original Scorpio hybrid at the SAE congress. And why it took 8 l-o-n-g years for the current example to hit the market.
Regards,
Shashanka

Re: Mahindra Scorpio coming with a true mild-hybrid system (aka SHVS). EDIT: Now launched @ 9.74 lak

For those who value Fuel Economy figures, the Scorpio "Intelli-Hybrid" variants see an overall FE boost of 7%, which translates into 16.36 kmpl for the 2WD variants and 16.20kmpl for the 4WD variants. This is roughly around 1 kmpl over what the standard 2.2-litre mHawk engine puts out.

Also, this tech cannot be retrofitted into existing Scorpios.

How does it work? Carwale explains:

Quote:
What Intelli-Hybrid does is that it assists the crank at lower revs to reduce engine load, which helps in lowering the fuel consumption. To achieve this, the beefed up alternator doubles up as a motor at lower revs to drive the engine crankshaft. At higher revs, it acts as a generator to produce electricity to charge the batteries and power the electrical components of the car. To deliver the required electric power, the Scorpio now gets a higher capacity battery.

Unlike full hybrids, the Scorpio cannot run only on electricity and has to have the engine powering the wheels at all times. Maruti uses a similar technology in the Maruti Ciaz sedan as well as the Ertiga and calls it the Smart Hybrid Vehicle System (SHVS).

The Micro-Hybrid technology in the Scorpio is essentially a start-stop technology. When the car comes to a halt and the driver shifts the car into neutral gear and releases the clutch, the engine shuts down. When it is time to move and the driver presses the clutch again to shift into gear, the engine gets cranked automatically thus saving the amount of fuel during stopover. The Intelli-Hybrid has the Micro-Hybrid technology embedded in its functioning. It also uses regenerative braking to improve the energy efficiency of the powertrain. You can also switch off the Micro-Hybrid, but the crank assist and regenerative braking will continue to work in the background.

Wonder whether it would be implemented for the 1.99 versions as well leading to some price cuts. Though in reality, going by the reported quality issues with the M&M parts, ' I 've a bit of nervous feeling about that 'beefed up alternator' which will be assigned some extra duties now.

I enquired about this new intelli hybrid version of scorpio, however the dealerships here in Pune are unaware of it. What they are only aware of is that there is a price change and around 5th of August they'll get it.

Re: Mahindra Scorpio coming with a true mild-hybrid system (aka SHVS). EDIT: Now launched @ 9.74 lak

The dealers here in Pune, finally, have some information about intelli-hybrid. The executive in one of the dealership said that all forthcoming Scorpio units will have this technology by default.
However, the sales team isn't aware of this new technology.
I wonder if there's any kind of training conducted by Mahindra/dealership whenever a new product or technology is introduced.
Poor domain knowledge = poor sales.

Further, the mild-hybrid tag hasn't done any good on monetary front to end consumers, the price hasn't changed for any variants but s2 and s4.
These two variants will be expensive by 2000 rupees.
