Re: Maruti-Suzuki: Outpacing the industry

Strong showing by Maruti-Suzuki at the sales Box Office for January 2017.

The homegrown auto major grabs 50% market share once again. The 1 lakh units per month is now a thing of the past, as MSIL puts it's strong steps forward to push ahead for the 1,50,000 units per month target!

Re: Maruti-Suzuki: Outpacing the industry

There is a reason why Maruti remains number 1 in India!! Exemplary customer service is the main reason behind it!! I recently bought an Alto K10 VXI AMT!! I am still full of smiles because of the customer experience!! Mind it, this experience is present in almost all dealers across India!! The way they follow up, ask for feedback and the way in which customers are treated stands out!! Good job Maruti!! Proud to be your customer!

Re: Maruti-Suzuki: Outpacing the industry

Maruti Suzuki cracks new segments- Mid Size sedan, Compact SUV and Premium Hatchback. Helps in Maruti Suzuki achieving 50+ % market share.

Quote:
Ciaz with 53,644 units in the April-January period has not only outsold competitors like Honda City , Hyundai Verna, Volkswagen Vento and Skoda Rapid but also clocked the highest growth in the segment.

Similarly in the crowded compact SUV segment, Vitara Brezza's year-to-date tally of 88,537 units is ahead of best-seller competitors
The story repeats in the premium hatch too.

Re: Maruti-Suzuki: Outpacing the industry

Maruti Suzuki takes next steps in holding on to its leadership position - will develop its own estate and invest in own properties. This model is being followed by other auto companies too.

Rising rentals are making the auto companies invest in real estate and tweak their model of operation.

Maruti is looking at real estate at key strategic locations across the country for dealership expansion. it has identified 200- 300 as of now and looking for more. They plan to acquire real estate and lease it out to dealers at a reasonable rate thus ensuring bonding of dealer- manufacturer in a long term partnership.

Maruti Suzuki plans to invest INR 140,00 Cr. in the said model in the next 4-5 years and will plan to reaching a distribution network of 5000.

Competitors to Maruti Suzuki too have similar model of operation though not in a large scale a drawn out by the Indian Auto leader.

Re: Maruti-Suzuki: Outpacing the industry

Maruti Suzuki looks to repeat its feat in fiscal 2018.

In 2017 the nation's largest carmaker is expecting growth to hit double digits in fiscal 2017.
Quote:
In the first 11 months of fiscal 2017, it sold 13.1 lakh vehicles in the domestic market, a nearly 11% increase from a year earlier.
Quote:
The company has told component vendors to be ready with supplies for production of 17.25 lakh to 17.30 lakh vehicles in fiscal 2018 starting April
Maruti's new models are doing extremely well and it also has a strong pipeline of products, giving it confidence about future sales.

Quote:
The Gujarat plant is expected to ease Maruti's capacity constraints and allow it to sell more of the Baleno and Brezza. Maruti is also building on its network: it is adding about 250 dealerships, including 50 Nexa outlets that sell premium products

Re: Maruti-Suzuki: Outpacing the industry

Maruti Suzuki has been ranked second in the category of companies above Rs 50,000 crore in revenue.

-Maruti Suzuki proudly states that today, the company manufactures 1.5 million family cars every year — that’s one car every 12 seconds.

- In February 2016, Maruti had five models in the top-10 list in the domestic passenger vehicle market. Exactly a year later, Maruti retained its leadership position with six of its models listed in the top-10 selling brands — Alto (ranked 1), Dzire (2), WagonR (3), Swift (5), Vitara Brezza (7), and Celario (9).

- Achieves this feat from a modest 40,000 units of cars in the early 1980s to 15 lakh cars annually, backed by a team of over 13,200 dedicated professionals that turn out 15 car models with over 150 variants day in and day out. And this drive is only backed by a nationwide service network across 1,600 cities and towns.

Re: Maruti-Suzuki: Outpacing the industry

Maruti Suzuki on a all time high - now a leader in almost all segments.

in the last Fiscal year 2016-17, Maruti Suzuki was the leader in Sedans, Premium Hatchbacks, crossovers, vans besides its stronghold of compact cars at the entry level.

- In the Sedan segment Ciaz edges out its closest rival Honda City (6k units more than Honda City)

- Though a late entrant in the compact SUV segment its Vitara Brezza is the shinning star, sells twice as much as its closest rival

- Baleno in the premium segment beats Hyundai's i20 elite by a margin of over 14k units.

- In the entry level segment the humble Alto beats its nearest rival by selling more than double than that of Renault;s KWID (2.4 lakhs Vs 1.09 lakhs)

- The compact hatch segment Swift beats Hyundai's Grand i10 by over 20 K units.

- The sub 4m compact Sedan Dzire sells 1.99 lakh units and that is bigger than the combined sales of Hyundai's Xcent, Honda's Amaze and the remaining sub 4m compact sedans in the market.

- The story continues in the utility and van segment - Ertiga , Omni and Eeco.

Maruti Suzuki looks at repeating its double digit growth in this fiscal too and looks be on track.
With 130,000 pending bookings for Vitara Brezza+Baleno (combined), 15k for Ignis and with the pending new launches of the New Dzire, face-lifts and with the additional units coming from the Gujarat plant, the leader seem to be growing bigger in spite of stiff competition.

Will the speculated 7 seat ( Grand Vitara ) and the New Vitara take on Toyota's Innova and Hyundai's Creta - Segments which Maruti Suzuki has no presence yet!

Re: Maruti-Suzuki: Outpacing the industry

In the above post, WagonR has not been mentioned, that is because it has [almost] its own niche segment and appeals to a lot of people with varied usage.

MUL's presence in small places and it making reliable cars [especially the petrols] is another mantra of success, along with good service & ASC.

Re: Maruti-Suzuki: Outpacing the industry

Maruti in India has what Warren Buffet calls a competitive moat vs. its competition. This competitive moat (or advantage) has sustained for long due to its dealership network and service advantage (You can read it in Pros list of any teambhp Maruti review). This advantage has sustained over time due to its service focus.

Apart from this what drives a company success is a healthy pipeline of appealing products - a good diversified portfolio helps attract the consumers. With the Moat that it enjoys Maruti just has to match the feature and appeal vs. its competition to easily enjoy leadership. Given two comparable models from Maruti and any other brand and average Indian consumer is likely to choose Maruti. In fact in a lot of cases a brand with even 80% as good as competitor is likely to do as well for Maruti. Unless it is a case like i20 vs. Swift or Creta vs. SCross their models are likely to be segment leaders.

Hyundai is definitely challenging Maruti and could become a bigger threat with more appealing products (the younger generation who are less tied to the "Maruti" brand may prefer it more).
