Re: Maruti-Suzuki: Outpacing the industry

Though not with deep pockets, I and my wife try to check out new cars released in the market by visiting the showrooms. Because we know we are not buying the car, we never ask for the test drive. But if the sales advisor asks whether we are buying it, a spontaneous answer is given. In the recent past we visited Datsun for RediGo, Renault for Lodgy, Honda for BRV, and Maruti for Brezza. And guess what, and the guess is right. ONLY Maruti made the follow-up calls about when I would be booking for Brezza. I stopped visiting Kalyani Motors over two years for regular service. Yet, I get calls from them asking for service and insurance renewal. This is what drives Maruti.

Re: Maruti-Suzuki: Outpacing the industry

The diesel ban in the Delhi/NCR region has benefited the country's largest carmaker, Maruti-Suzuki India Limited (MSIL), the most. The company saw it's market share rise up to a staggering 51% for the first quarter of FY2016, a jump of over 5% in the past 18 months!

Not only in the Delhi/NCR region, but Maruti-Suzuki's market share has risen in other major cities as well. Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Pune, Ahmedabad, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Lucknow - in all these major markets, Maruti-Suzuki's market share has risen between 3-8 percent.

These 10-12 major Indian city markets accrue for more than 40% of the total sales for MSIL, and thus have helped the company deal with comparatively slower demand in rural markets.

Contributing to the boost in market share is the company's strong new-generation product portfolio such as the Vitara Brezza, the Baleno, the Ciaz, and even the S-Cross, which has resulted in combined sales of over 2-3 lakh units.

Quote:
RS Kalsi, executive director, sales and marketing at Maruti Suzuki told ET enhancing market share in the top cities has been one of Maruti's major achievements in the recent past.

"Our network is much stronger in these markets. Nexa has redefined the purchase and ownership experience. Technologies like mild hybrid and AMT have made our vehicles much more appealing for urban customers," Kalsi said.

VG Ramakrishanan, MD at Avanteum Advisors say that Maruti Suzuki has transitioned well from being a value-for-money car maker to an aspirational car maker.

"The new generation products, especially Baleno, have helped Maruti woo the youth and women buyers from major cities," added Ramakrishnan.

Re: Maruti-Suzuki: Outpacing the industry

Maruti Suzuki plans more SUVs, big cars. Not concerned on the success of KWID, work in progress on the NEW Alto.

Maruti Suzuki will boost its portfolio of bigger cars and SUVs as it tries to expand beyond its traditional stronghold of small cars.

Originally entry cars had big volumes, but now people expect a little more premium cars. We have to prepare and respond to all these expectations

Re: Maruti-Suzuki: Outpacing the industry

Maruti Suzuki acknowledges its current problems and see ways to solve it.

1.Production constraints at his firm’s plants in Haryana that may see some customers moving away to other brands. Brezza and Baleno bookings seem increasing

Quote:
That’s why we have to recognize that (waiting period) is not good for customers. Even if we produce 10,000 more, new orders are coming. That’s why the total volume backlog is so much.

In order to retain double-digit growth, we have tried to increase our sales volume by 1.5 lakh units every year. It is quite a huge number. We are starting the Gujarat project. Factory construction is almost complete and we have already started the installation of machines. Most probably, by the end of the year, we will start production of prototypes and by the beginning of next year, around February, we will start actual production.

2. Acknowledges the success of KWID
Maruti Suzuki's MD thinks that in Kwid, Renault India Pvt. Ltd has a design that is better than Maruti Suzuki’s small cars.
Quote:
It is a very interesting model. We’ve to figure out what makes customers accept it and use that in the development of our products.
3. Continued tie-up with FIAT for engines
Quote:
Yes, as long as we use their engine (Fiat SpA and Suzuki Motor Corp. have a licensing agreement under which the Japanese company buys 1.3-litre and 1.6-litre diesel engines from the Italian firm). As long as we retain that engine, we want to keep that collaboration.

The competition which in almost all cases is priced at least 50k more, and offering questionable service experience, makes it even more compelling.

With the Gujarat plant opening up in the next 6 months, new model launches like Ignis, Swift, Dzire and facelifts planned for S-Cross, Wagon R, Celerio in the next year, expect better value product, and more sales.
Completely agree.
I owned a swift Dzire Vdi until earlier this year. While looking for a replacement, Maruti was the last on the list. I was so much done with those cheap power window console.

After checking and TDing Figo, Ecosport, i20 Elite, Avventura, Etios Cross, Creta, Duster, Terrano, Baleno, S-Cross, I ended up booking a Duster. Then they came with Brezza and now I have one.

Fuzz free ownership, trust (and of course, a well priced, well equipped, competent product) defeated the hatred towards cheap power window console.

Maruti gains market share in top car cities.
The company has gained from 1-3% across the top car cities in India — Delhi-NCR region, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Pune, Ahmedabad, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Kochi, Jaipur and Lucknow.
Maruti-Suzuki: Outpacing the industry-54260484.jpg

Collectively, these top 11 cities comprise 40% of Maruti’s total domestic sales.

Quote:
The urban focus has helped Maruti gain marketshare at a time when poor rainfall caused rural markets to shrink. The Nexa network not only strengthened the urban focus but also helped aggressively sell vehicles to suit the changing taste of these markets.
Apart from UV models like Vitara Brezza, the top cities have also been buying the Baleno, Ciaz, Ertiga, Celerio and of course Dzire and Swift among others. Semi automatic AMT transmission in mass market cars like Alto and WagonR and mild hybrids in Ciaz and Ertiga have also helped carve out new niches with existing products

This is significant. Usually sales achievements of Maruti are downplayed citing the extensive network in Tier-3 cities and rural areas; that Maruti had headstart of almost 15 years to expand its network.

The information in your posts clearly defy that logic. All key players are very well present in all these major cities, yet Maruti is able to bite away their share. This clearly indicates the hard work Maruti team is putting in to not only retain their share but to take away other's. No complacency there.

I personally never liked Marutis, but in past one year my perception has changed. S-Cross, Baleno & Brezza.

Re: Maruti-Suzuki: Outpacing the industry

In the times when every other car company is lamenting decreased footfalls in it's showrooms and a huge reduction in number of bookings/deliveries, the corporate bigwigs at Maruti-Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) must be happily saying right now - "Demonetisation? What is that?"

Because the trying times since November 9th has failed to affect the monthly sales numbers & growth percentage of the country's largest passenger vehicle manufacturer.

With a combined sales number of 1,35,550 units for the month of November 2016 and scoring a Year-on-Year growth of 12.2%, Maruti-Suzuki's sales continue to be as strong as ever. This includes domestic sales of 1,26,325 units (14.2% growth Y-O-Y) and 9,225 exported units.

This number is significantly due to the meteoric rise in demand & sales of the company's sub-4m crossover SUV offering, the Vitara Brezza.

Quote:
What is giving overall Maruti sales a boost is the consistent and surging demand for the Vitara Brezza which, along with the Gypsy, Ertiga and S-Cross, sold 17,215 units last month, a handsome 98% year-on-year increase (November 2015: 8,688).

For the eight-month April-November 2016 period, the carmaker has sold a total of 127,182 UVs, which is a staggering 132% YoY growth. The key contributor to this increase is the Vitara Brezza which, since its launch in early March 2016, has sold a total of 66,478 units till end-October. Expect November to have added over 10,000 units to this tally.
