Tata Punch slid down further this month to number 5. Is it losing its momentum?

Maruti Suzuki Ertiga in the number 2 spot is a surprise.

TATA and their security rating partner along with social media influencers would be giving some 5 stars and niggle free experience reviews soon for boosting the sales figure.

Perhaps, Autocar India should have waited for a week to decide about the podcast on how Tata outplayed Maruti with Punch to become the best seller

What explains Ertiga topping the chart ? Is it due to the Taxi segment ?

It is very interesting but Taxi segment sales are a small portion of overall Ertiga sales. I do not know the exact numbers but the percentage numbers are in single digits or early double digits as far as I have heard. It certainly is not as high as the Dzire.

Ertiga CNG is a VFM proposition which is as of now unchallenged in this segment at that price point. Hence the sales. When I last enquired with dealers, there is a 3-6 month waiting for the same.

Re: Maruti-Suzuki: Outpacing the industry

Maruti had had a good month in general. The new EV e-Vitara has captured people's fancy and it seems like it may be a successful first launch

The 5 star global NCAP for the Dzire finally gets maruti into the zone that Mahindra and Tata used to flaunt. Now if only the bharat Ncap results would come out. It has been ages

I foresee Maruti increasing their market share to 43-45 % in 2025 if the trend continues.

I can share my perspective on Ertiga. I had gone to Maruti Arena showroom for Brezza test drive. They had manual and I was interested in automatic test drive only. I took Brezza manual test drive to feel the car dynamics and suspension. All my manual driving experience is with diesel manuals. I stalled car 2-3 times as I have never driven petrol Maruti manual before and it made me look like a naive driver to the salesperson.
The interiors of Brezza let me down, but Brezza felt decent to drive as a city beater car.

I got a call from showroom a week later that they cannot arrange for automatic Brezza test drive and have Ertiga automatic available for test drive. Ertiga was never on my list to test drive as I have always wanted safer car for highways travel. I reluctantly went for the test drive just to experience TC automatic gear box.

As soon as I sat inside, the light colored interiors gave a feel of wide cabin.

I drove the car sedately and the gear shifts were smooth. The gearbox takes 1-2 seconds to downshift when I pressed accelerator hard.

I also tested gear box in manual mode just to see gearbox behavior. The gear box offered good drive experience even in manual mode. I could not push the car hard as test drive was on smaller roads.

I came out impressed with TC automatic drivability and behavior of Ertiga within city limits.
Overall impression of Ertiga post test drive:
- TC automatic is really good for city traffic. Eases lot of strain in daily city commute.
- The second row has good window size which gives good view of outside for people with 5.5 feet height.
- Offers good leg room in all the 3 rows as compared to 7 seater SUVs out there.
- Ertiga automatic felt very easy to drive within city at speeds less than 50 kmph.
- Handles bad sections decently.

If Ertiga had better safety rating that test drive would have definitely swayed me away from Brezza to Ertiga. Ertiga checks the box for a lot of people who want reliable people mover at affordable price and with less maintenance cost.
