Re: Maruti-Suzuki: Outpacing the industry

Maruti is outpacing the industry because Indians are loving it. Its difficut in India to come out of the value for money mode.

Re: Maruti-Suzuki: Outpacing the industry

Maruti very well understands the pulse of the Indian car market.
They are not in the habit of testing new waters instead they like to sail in tested waters.
This was the case in the mini SUV segment in 2016 when they launched Brezza at a time when Dusters and Cretas were aplenty on the road.
They will repeat the same in EV segment and hybrids by 2026.

It is not wrong at all, irrespective of the stratum of society to which one may belong or the financial wherewithal which one may be able to command, to seek ‘value for one’s hard-earned, heavily taxed money’ especially as a wage-earning, middle-class person.

And Maruti, like it or not, are doing an admirable job of serving the market. Ours is an ever growing market, considering the relative population, headroom for growth and constant upward mobility of different social strata.

In a sense, India is in the ‘growth’ stage that the West experienced in the 1980’s. No harm in serving that growth, surely! (C K Prahalad - There’s money at the bottom of the Pyramid. Etc.)

And frankly, whether one is buying a Maruti or a Mercedes, we as consumers will definitely ask for and ensure that we receive our value for money and freebies and all the rest of it.

Re: Maruti-Suzuki: Outpacing the industry

FY 2024:
Quote:
Maruti Suzuki India, the bellwether of the industry, has reported its best-ever fiscal year dispatches of 1,759,881 or 1.75 million units, up 10% on the 1.60 million units it sold in the domestic market in FY2023.

Providing the sales charge, as it has been for the entire fiscal, has been the company’s SUV and MPV range. The eight-model utility vehicle (UV) portfolio, comprising the Brezza, Grand Vitara, Fronx, Jimny, S-Cross, XL6, Ertiga and the new Invicto, has helped buffer the decline in overall sales of hatchbacks and sedans.

Nexa models have sold 561,000 units, up 52% (FY2023: 369,000 units and account for 87% of Maruti Suzuki's total UV sales of 642,296 units in FY2024.

Quote:
Proof of demand for Maruti Suzuki’s UVs comes from dispatches from its premium Nexa channel, which retails the popular Grand Vitara, Fronx, XL6, Invicto and Jimny. Nexa models have sold 561,000 units, up 52% (FY2023: 369,000 units and account for 87% of the company’s total UV sales in FY2024.

Maruti’s supremacy in the UV segment is reflected in the fact that they are more than the entire FY2024 PV sales of Hyundai Motor India (614,721 units), Tata Motors (570,955 units), Mahindra & Mahindra (459,877 units) and Toyota Kirloskar Motor (244,940 units).

Re: Maruti-Suzuki: Outpacing the industry

Oh, the Eeco—what a delightful cash cow for Maruti!

Just look at it's build quality; it must cost them pennies to produce, and with no competition in sight, it practically reigns supreme in its segment. Selling over 10,000+ units a month without wasting money on discounts or flashy ads, it flies off the lot like hot vada! Who would’ve thought the flop Versa could evolve into the superhit that is the Eeco?

It’s a testament to what Maruti can achieve, and if they work their magic with the Jimny—a rugged utilitarian delight in the 7-9 lakh range—maybe we’ll see another blockbuster in the making!
