The 2 Indian OEMs have carved out 25% of the total market share!

The only thing to see is if they can sustain themselves in the long run. Mahindra has a huge backlog of pending delivery, but TATA has only Nexon facelift in their kitty, which can boost sales. This financial year will be interesting!

These are factory dispatches, Yes. The numbers will grow higher when TATA will have a complete EV profile in next 3 years.

The critical number for EVs will be around 10k units a month, for at least a quarter, ie. 3 months in a row. At that point of 400-500 cars daily, Tata would've stabilised it's EV manufacring processes, supply chains etc.... The progress has been slow so far, but it's progress nonetheless.

The data interpretation suggests that people are buying more TATA EVs and not particularly their non EV cars. Is it so? And is that worrying if true? Because at one point or the other all Global OEMs will be there in India with their EVs.

More than 40k units were non EVs, also they clocked their highest monthly and quarterly sales. Mind you this is despite multiple model revisions nearing launch (Nexon, Harrier & Safari), which traditionally means current on-sale models see sales taper. Undoubtedly there are glaring gaps in the Tata model portfolio, including lack of turbo availability on the Punch, petrol options for Harrier/Safari, no product in the highly popular 4.3m SUV segment (albeit will be addressed with Curvv launch) and finally no 3 row MUV. Lack of products in these popular segments make little sense.

Hyundai Motor India has sold 148,303 units to Tata Motors’ 143,082 units in April-June 2023. While Hyundai has the better of Tata in car sales, the latter leads in SUVs. Will the new Exter mini-SUV increase the sales gap or will Tata deliver a mean punch?

Exter is going to pull away Punch's sales for sure.

But, will it cannibalize more sales of its own hatch sibling, the Grand i10? Remains to be seen.

As far as the equipment list of the Punch goes, Tata has everything in their arsenal to match the Exter. Maybe now they will sit up and do something about it.

They have a DCA transmission, already mated to the same engine. A DCA with paddle shifters, why not?

They have a diesel engine, already available on the same platform.

And they already showcased, six airbags, sunroof and CNG variant in the Auto Expo.

When do they plan they introduce it all, only they know.
