Engine hum - Low, but audible. Otherwise very quiet cabin.

Clutch travel - very long. This was one aspect that made me struggle to find an optimum driving position. Usually, I like to keep the seat at the highest position. In this car, if I did that, one quarter of the dials disappear. If I lower the seat, I have to also pull it forward for that darn clutch travel. This means that the steering wheel has me pinned. To disembark, I have to open the door and push the seat back to give myself room.

Steering - It is thin. But, like you said, it's an easy fix. Other than that, I found the steering wheel buttons quite nice and comprehensive in function.

Mahindra Marazzo MPV commanding a waiting period of up to 6 weeks

CarandBike reports that Marazzo already has got a waiting period of up to 6 weeks for a few variants (here)

Quote:
While the waiting period for the top-notch M8 trim is within a month, customers may have to wait for up to five weeks for lower variants.

The Mahindra Marazzo was launched earlier this month and marks the return of the Indian SUV maker in the MPV segment. Available with both a 7 seat and 8 set option, the Marazzo has impressed us with its refinement, build quality and competitive pricing. And it seems to have impressed the Indian car buying public too. In some parts of the country, the Mahindra Marazzo now commands a waiting period for up to 6 weeks for certain variants. Dealers across the country have also unanimously told NDTV carandbike that the most popular variant on offer has been the top of the line version or the M8.

While customers in certain cities like Bangalore and Coimbatore have waiting periods of up to 6 weeks, certain other cities like Mumbai and Delhi has 4 week or a month's waiting on the top spec model. The new Marazzo is also very popular in traditional Mahindra strongholds in northern India like Chandigarh and anticipating strong volumes, Mahindra has ensured a lower waiting period (of about 3 weeks) in such markets. That said, there are still certain smaller packets around the country that are yet to receive the new MPV - like Guwahati for instance.

While enquiries and bookings for the Marazzo started off slow, post launch - and post dealers getting the cars in the showroom - they increased dramatically. Dealers have also mentioned how walk in customers for the likes of the lower variants of the XUV500 or higher variants of the TUV 300 have also been curious about the Marazzo due to its great pricing and added features.

Under the bonnet, the Mahindra Marazzo gets a 1.5-litre diesel motor that churns out 121 bhp of max power and 300 Nm of peak torque and is mated to a six-speed manual gearbox. Starting at Rs 9.99 lakh for the base M2 trim and going up to Rs 13.90 lakh for the fully-loaded M8 trim (all prices ex-showroom, Delhi), the Marazzo is more expensive that the soon to be replaced Ertiga and cheaper than the Tata Hexa and Toyota Innova Crysta.

Re: The Mahindra Marazzo MPV. EDIT: Now launched

I did a 20 min test drive in Coimbatore for M8 variant. Compared to my Innova, clutch is super light and cabin noise is minimal. Almost petrol engine levels of refinement. Very good pickup too. Excellent view of the road and sides.

No complaints about driver seat. Compared to Innova, I found my forehead much closer to the windshield top and that was a bit difficult with hot sun (I'm 5'7"). Top end variant also doesn't have an auto dimming mirror - and it fealt flimsy too. Nice and smallish steering wheel. It could have been a little bit thicker. Plastics are fine for my taste.

Second row is also nice, though the headrests were a bit not to my liking. That silly hand brake lever was a nuisance. Completely made it a circus to get my phone out. SA suggested to use the dash top area for that, but that gets extremely hot under sun. Initially I didn't like the armrests being at different heights, but then left armrest was quite ergonomical with the gear lever - I could flick the gears with 2 fingers. Initially I was planning to go for an AT car, but this is certainly effortless clutch and gear combo.

Was very composed at 100kmph and in 6th gear it is very relaxed - must give good mileage. Went over some potholes and rough roads and it was almost as good as my first gen Innova.

Looks are ok to me though I hated the alloy wheel design. Get a grey or black after market alloys and change the shark grill to a pure black small mesh with logo is all in my mind needed to make it a looker.

Now in a dilemma to choose between Ciaz AT and this one.

Mahindra has the up coming Ertiga in it's cross hairs! This is looks like an unbeatable package on paper; if only they make the first batch buyers happy with fuss free ownership it would be a runaway hit with a long waitlist! Wish they had given 6 airbags at least in their top trim, that 4 wheel discs is a great way to go! Wish they come up with any automatic variant fast!

Top trim Ertiga sells 2-3 lakhs cheaper than marazzo and also Ertiga has petrol engine on offer which starts even lower. So I am not sure if Ertiga sales will see any impact.

As the market shifts towards petrol, I sense more petrol buyers opting Ertiga and Diesel buyers looking for marazzo or innova

Why an AMT for a vehicle that costs almost 15 lakhs on road. This will be the most expensive AMT equipped car in India when launched. Mahindra should have considered a torque converter unit to provide a smooth ride for the money one pays. Majority of this automatic variant will be self driven by owners and a jerky AMT gearbox doesn't suit the purpose of buying an MPV.

Sounds logical. However why do we like to have a petrol car?

In my opinion other than car operators (commercial use) diesel may not be viable as far as just economics of owning (initial capex, running, maintenance, insurance and resale value) is concerned. Otherwise just for the sheer qualities of a diesel engine (higher torque per kW, driving dynamics) less people buy an MPV.

By the way, Marazzo is reported to be a relatively silent vehicle!

I completely agree and also 2020 is just too far away, unless they will launch it with the facelift. However, I suspect the tight engine bay may be a factor. Torque converters take up a lot of space, and the marazzo may not have it!

Here is a comparo of Lodgy, Marazzo, Innova Crysta and Hexa. The opinion of the reviewers regrading the ride quality of Hexa is contraindicating the views of our official review. I have read so many bhpians going gaga over Hexa's ride quality. Really confusing

Anyways a great effort by Mahindra for delivering a competitive product in a highly competitive segment.

Exactly my thoughts too. Unless and otherwise the AMT behaves almost like a regular auto it definitely is not worth to go in this segment. And the AMT in TUV300 does not inspire any confidence either judging by the general dislike towards that AMT's jerkiness. Not to mention, its major competitors all have a conventional automatic.

Highly likely that they drove it with high PSI on the tyres - hence it becoming a plush ride when heavily loaded with 6 or 7 passengers. They are also talking about the high loading height of the boot space etc - very easy to pass such judgement by forgetting the fact that Hexa is the only offroad capable vehicle in the entire comparison. People who buy want to buy Hexa or Crysta won't ever look for Marazzo or Lodgy - the propaganda is to position Marazzo as an efficient people mover which will eventually win and is a fair argument totally. Engine size, off-road capability etc do not matter much there. All these comparos are merely working this strategy out.

If I'm not mistaken Duster comes with a 6 speed AMT, it must definitely be more than ₹ 15 L OTR.
