Ford India has launched the EcoSport Black Edition earlier today.

Priced at about 40,000 rupees over the equivalent normal Trend+ variant and about 18,000 rupees over the equivalent Titanium+ variant, the EcoSport Black Edition gains:

- a black grille,
- black 16-inch alloy wheels,
- black foglight bezels,
- black-out moulded headlamps,
- black wing mirror covers,
- black roof rails and
- black roof cross bars.

No further changes are made to the exteriors, while the interiors and the powertrains remain the same.

The Black Edition is available in all 3 engine choices - the 1.5L petrol (MT & AT), the 1.0L EcoBoost petrol (MT) & the 1.5L diesel (MT).

Prices, ex-showroom Delhi:

Black Edition 1.5L Petrol MT Titanium – INR 8.74 lakhs
Black Edition 1.5L Petrol AT Titanium – INR 9.79 lakhs
Black Edition 1L EcoBoost Trend+ – INR 8.58 lakhs
Black Edition 1L EcoBoost Titanium+ – INR 9.63 lakhs
Black Edition 1.5L Diesel Trend+ – INR 8.88 lakhs

It actually looks good in white/Silver Ecosport. I have seen a modded White Ecosport with stock alloys in black and it looked good. The only problem I see is, stains/dust/mud stands out in black.

The White one actually looks good. Gunmetal on the alloys would have looked better i feel. All the listed stuff can be modified as per tastes outside as well.

Body coloured mirrors, body coloured bumpers etc were advertised as a feature by Maruti and sold as feature in their Vxi variants! (Lower variant Lxi used to get black coloured mirror & black coloured bumpers).
Now Ford is doing the exact opposite, and asking for a premium! Maruti owners like me would have expected a discount instead!

Not really extra. The 18K extra gives you additional front and rear bumper garnish as per the pics in black as well as the roof cross bars.

The Trend+ is 40K more because the Trend+ gets 5 alloys now!

I'm always a bit queasy about these 'Special' editions. Getting replacement parts for these black claddings, interior bits etc might be difficult. Better to go with regular edition, unless there's something really unique being offered.

A friend of mine had bought a Vento IPL Special Edition & had trouble sourcing parts like the graphic works etc when he was involved in a fender-bender

And so much black plastic trim, even on good vehicles, becomes grey trim under our heavy sunlight after a year or three

I am running black Momo Alloys on my Trend+ I did note the dealership taking pics of my car. Maybe they got inspired



The black grille is on my agenda as I do not like unnecessary chrome on any car.

Life indeed comes a full circle. Body color used to be all the rage sometime back. Now it's time for black!

Base models (Ambiente) still come with black grills, black mirrors, black steel wheels I suppose. How much of a premium are they charging for this?

I like it. Especially the white and black combo. Now if they could have given a little tinted glass straight from the factory, it would have made life easy for the customers.

Strange that the orange car carries tints while the white one doesn't. Just transforms the look of the car, the tints.

Ford is working over time ever since there was a direct challenger to its bread and butter model

I think this is a strategy every manufacturer is adopting now-a-days during the end of a product life cycle. The new Ecosport is set to be launched sometime in the first quarter of 2017 and now Ford comes up with this new black edition just like Toyota did with the recent iteration of their 4x4 automatic Fortuner.
Hope Ford works on using more stiff and light weight materials in the 2017 Ecosport to make it lighter if at all they are planning a all new one rather than just a mere facelift.

There is a difference, In the Ambiente, the grills,Mirror etc. are just plain-jane plastic without any paint coating. However the special editions comes with Black painting . The grill now sports piano black finish instead of chrome finish.
