Its not only related to Infrastructure. People mentality is linked more towards SUV nowadays. The high seating position, good road view, high ground clearance are making people move towards the SUV.

This is not only related to India where the Sedan sales are diminishing. Here in US also the sales of midsize sedans are diminishing very rapidly. Sales of midsize SUVs are overtaking the midsize Sedans here consistently every month now.

All my work place colleagues are having a liking for the Crossovers and given a chance they would choose the SUVs as their primary car by ditching their Sedans.

Re: Honda Civic likely to return to India

The Honda Civic will join the Honda India showcase at the 2018 Auto Expo, together with the CR-V and the all-new Amaze, according to ACI.

Quote:
The Civic to be displayed at the Auto Expo will not be the exact model that will launch in India. Honda will bring the facelifted version that is yet to make a public appearance.
The latest Civic picks up from where the last one to be sold in India left off, with its decidedly sporty, low-slung design. What gives the new Civic serious character is the faux notchback look at the rear. We do, however, expect the Civic’s cabin to be spruced up before the car goes on sale in India. The Civic will be offered with a 1.6L diesel engine option and a 1.8-litre naturally-aspirated VTEC petrol engine.

I did not understand that part. The 2018 CIVIC is already out for a while now. The 2019 CIVIC wont make its appearance until mid this year stateside. So am I to interpret that Honda will bring the CIVIC only next year ?

If I understand correctly, they are magnanimously getting the US Civic to India pretty late in its lifecycle. The Indian market has matured and somewhat lost it's fervent belief and sales success in the Honda brand (Brio, Mobilio, WRV, BRV, Amaze etc.) Pricing, kit and engines are the key!

That's what it seems. There's no point in launching this one and then the face-lift next year.

Re: Honda Civic likely to return to India

Saw a couple of Civics in Thailand over the last couple of days. The front end looks fantastic.

However, also been seeing a lot of 8th Gen Civics and they continue to look elegant and classy. I doubt the new generation Civic will age as gracefully as the 8th Gen.

Why can't honda launch the civic hatch here? Let it compete with the Baleno, I20 and their own Jazz.

We need to understand that Civic hatch falls in category of Golf/Megane hatch.

Baleno/Jazz/i20 fall in category of Polo hatch.

I hope that clears the doubt, why that can't be done at all.

Also Civic hatch is traditionally targeted only for Japan and Europe markets.

Re: Honda Civic likely to return to India

I await the launch of whatever it is. My Civic has been doing service since 2010 (Launch of BS-IV, was the first in Kanpur) and with my son in Gurugram is doing over 30,000km per annum. So with 2020 imminent I will be inclined for another one.

I beg to differ here . Civic may be launched with the same USA spec 1.8L turbocharged petrol engine with 180 bhp on tap . Then Civic is likely to compete with Octavia/vRS/VW GTI.

Honda Civic likely to return to India

Even I have a 2007 Civic MT
I am on the fence for an octavia vs elantra at the moment
Do not mind waiting another year ( as per reports, launch is early 2019 ) for the civic to hit our shores!
Hopefully the auto expo should give us some clarity!
I expect it to be priced similar to the corolla more than the octavia though, lets wait and watch!

Dont know about the shores but my Civic used to hit every breaker and pothole in Mumbai.

Hope the Indian version is modified for aspects like GC.

The problem is the price tag of the Civic hatch. It will easily fall into the Golf category. The price in US itself starts above the Civic sedan. IMO they should launch the Civic SI with that sweet shifting manual transmission as a competition to the Octavia vRS. It will be one heck of a car with decent reliability and proven track record. But with Honda India, we can be sure that they will not launch the SI.

GC has always been an issue with Honda, starting with the old 2000 Honda City, That takes a little getting used to I guess, alternatively there are a lot of aftermarket solutions discussed on the forum like coil spring adjusters to raise the GC adequately to ensure a trouble free ride
