Hyundai launched its global luxury sub-brand 'Genesis' in November last year (link to news article). While the Genesis G90 and G80 luxury sedans are on their way to target markets like Korea, China, North America and the Middle-East, Hyundai India has been showcasing the Hyundai Genesis (predecessor to the G80) at many events all over the country. Following showcases at events like the 2014 Autocar Performance Show and 2016 Delhi Auto Expo, the Hyundai Genesis has been spotted in Bangalore.









The Hyundai Genesis displayed at the 2016 Auto Expo was powered by the 3.8-litre, V6 GDI petrol engine that makes 311 BHP @ 6,000 rpm and 397 Nm of torque @ 5,000 rpm. Length x width x height x wheelbase dimensions come in at 4,990 mm x 1,890 mm x 1,480 mm x 3,010 mm. The feature list on the car includes a power tilt-and-slide panoramic sunroof, a rake and reach adjustable steering wheel, auto-dimming wing mirrors, a Lexicon 14-speaker (optional 17-speaker) sound system, ventilated front seats, power rear sunshade and manual rear side shades, LED fog lights and a full-colour heads-up display.

Driver assistance / safety features include blind spot detection / rear cross-traffic alert, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, automatic emergency braking and high-beam assist.

If launched in India the car will rival the Audi A6, BMW 5-Series and Mercedes E-Class, though an official launch confirmation has yet to come through.

I'm not sure if Hyundai are going to launch the Genesis brand in India. They could be using India as a testing ground for the newly re-branded Genesis G80 though.

The car is a beauty! The little blue Hyundai Eon in the foreground and the classy large Hyundai Genesis / Genesis G80 in the background in these symbolic pictures is a telling indication of the sheer range of products in Hyundai's global repertoire!

Though the cars dimensions, engine etc look to rival the BMW 5, Audi A6, Merc E. BUT in the US this car is priced under U$ 40k. Where as the Germans are priced from U$ 50k onwards.

Which means this car is priced like the 3 series / A4 / C Class & actually competing with a segment (and a half) above, now thats value

I think there is a very good case to launch Japanese/Korean luxury cars in this country. The Camry/Teana/Sonata don't offer value. Something like the Genesis that could bring the game home against the Germans would really hit the spot.

It'll appeal to people who find the Superb an attractive option but are just too scared of Skoda.

Pricing will be key!
If brought in as a CBU and price matches or goes beyond entry level Germans, it might lose out since folks in India are more attracted towards snob value of Germans, rather than features/comfort/power of an expensive Hyundai.

From the look of it, the vehicle seems to be driven towards Advaith Hyundai Bellandur. Since they have out up name plate with model, I don't think it's a test mule. So any launch plans? Or is it for any promotional event ?

Also, the road vehicle seems to be taking is a one way

The car was parked in front of the showroom the whole day. If anyone working in Ecospace or nearby pls. go and try to find out whats up with having the car there.

They didn't even try to hide it. It was parked smack bang in the showroom parking lot outside.

This looks like the exact same car as the one in Auto Expo.

Genesis looks awesome but is a sales consultant selling Eon, equipped to handle a Genesis customer.
May be they will have to take the Maruthi Nexa approach.

I just hope they don't mess up and create another Santa-fe.

Also will Genesis have the snob value of the Germans rivals?

I used to see lot of old Genesis driven as premium taxis in South Korea . Most of the higher officials in South Korean companies will have one of the Genesis model in their garage along with a RSM (Renault Samsung motor). Not to mention the number of Bentley's these guys own.

Very happy to see this thread and this cars spotting!

I think this can work If priced more competitively than its German rivals owing this brands lack of brand image and awareness. I've always admired Lexus for its reliability even though it lacked the outright snob value of its germans rivals and I think Genesis should be as reliable as Hyundai vehicles.
I would love to see Genesis being launched in our country.

I have seen a black Genesis crossing the Ashram Chowk in Delhi around 7 am numerous times... but believe it could be a private import as it's got regular plates than red (on test) ones.
