re: The 2018 next-gen Maruti Swift - Now Launched!

Wow, so they finally are moving away from that tacky steering wheel!

Whatever other changes they do or don't do, that alone will be a big improvement.

Finally a change in the steering. Hope this makes it to India. The low profile will surely be raised for the India spec. Skinny tyres will make their appearance in the lower and mid trims. Power button switches 😡, aren't they in an odd position ?
Any news on the structural integrity ? Hope Maruti comes up with atleast a 4 star euro ncap rating car as India should have moved closer to our Bharat NCAP by the time the swift launches in India.

I somehow feel that the rear projection is going to look very ODD/Ugly (like Ritz). The way it protrudes outside looks odd and reminds me of Nissan Leaf

Other than that, a change to steering wheel is a huge WELOCME change

Hang on. A more worrying question is that that protrusion must be to accommodate more boot space. If the boot space and the cabin space is increased, what is the point of having a Baleno.

Or is the protrusion so that it could be increased another 10cm to make the swift dzire

By the way, Maruti is known to launch products that eat into their own stable. Like Ritz, swift combo or the a-star, celerio, alto k10 combo are all priced in the same zone. The company is happy as long as the consumer base does not go away to other brands.

By the way drool worthy steering wheel. Looks awesome. Should have come in the Ciaz though because Ciaz is the one that needs to feel up market.

One thing's for sure. The best gen Dzire is set to continue to be being the least good looking 4 meter Sedan.

One thing they should not do is to try for a DZire out of this model. Let them make an SUV or a 3-row MPV based on this, but not a sedan. This version has become more angular, and is not suited for a sedan out of it. For DZire, they can continue with the current model.

Not sure if external websites can be linked but lots of websites like this one have a pretty accurate or probably the actual rendition of the new swift

re: The 2018 next-gen Maruti Swift - Now Launched!

Suzuki Swift in Europe - it is the Swift Sport!

Compared to the regular Swift prototype spied in March, this vehicle sports a more prominent front spoiler with larger air intakes, side skirts, and a fatter rear bumper with two large exhaust pipes on each side.

The new Swift Sport will ditch its naturally-aspirated 100kW/160Nm 1.6-litre engine for the 103kW/220Nm 1.4-litre ‘Boosterjet’ turbo from the Vitara SUV.
The Swift Sport should be offered with a six-speed automatic with paddle-shifters as an option, while a six-speed manual would likely be standard as with the current model.

Regina is a concept launched at the Tokyo Auto Show in 2011.
This model is a compact city and is believed to be the evolution of next gen Swift, being one of its most popular references.

re: The 2018 next-gen Maruti Swift - Now Launched!

I don't drive a Swift and in all likely hood I won't be owning one. But I do see that among the hatch-backs on offer here, the Swift, with its many positives (its nimble & agile handling being a major one) stands out and is a front-runner in the segment - witness the 9 pages in this thread so far!

The grumbles regarding the protruding derriere of the new Swift notwithstanding, it is probably going to add to the boot space, which was negligible earlier.

re: The 2018 next-gen Maruti Swift - Now Launched!

The design language seems dated and it doesn't have the edge and flair that the previous generation Swift commanded when it was launched. The steering wheel design change is certainly welcome as it was long overdue. However, with all that rear protrusion, supposedly meant for larger boot space, there seems to be cannibalization between MSIL dealerships and Nexa as Swift and Baleno may vie for the same share of pie.
