Yes, the new swift looks awesome. And thank goodness they are bringing a new steering wheel. But Autocar reports that we are unlikely to get the Japanese spec interiors.

Glad that i decided to go for the current Swift 6 months ago ! Apart from the interiors and to some extent the front side the car is not appealing in any way imho. It looks like a mixture of 3-4 other hatchbacks. Still it will be a success due to the brand image.

Drive report of Suzuki Swift RSt (1.0l boosterjet) - 6AT,

Quote:
New Swift which increased sportiness by full model change. Actually tested it responded gently to the depression of the accelerator, there was no shift shock of 6 AT, handling was a quick impression. However, I received impression that there was no special big impact and it was well organized. The new Swift RSt engine is the same type as the turbo engine of BALENO XT. However, it is said that the tuning is slightly different.

re: The 2018 next-gen Maruti Swift - Now Launched!

To me the biggest improvement in the new Swift is the 265 litre boot space. As seen in a capture from the Japanese site, it is much more practical and well shaped.

I for one am one customer who was ready to settle for the current generation Swift as a replacement of my old one. The impractical 213L boot space was the one factor that was a deal breaker. For a hatch of it's size it need at least a 250L boot which just about satisfies the luggage requirements of a weekend drive with a small toddler.

The design looks good to me and I can live with the rear styling though it is not as great as the rest of the car. I am not really worried about the lack of stability as Suzuki has figured out how to reduce weight at the same time make their cars feel stronger behind the wheel. I drove the current generation and the car felt way more solid than my 2008 Type 2 VDi. I believe they make the body shell much more stiffer in each iteration. This version too is 10% stiffer than the previous iteration.

I adore the Swift. Having owned a 2011 non vvt k-series 1.2 petrol, I know and can tell that it was a sporty car. Handling was good as it had a stiff suspension setup. Steering was predictably accurate too. Moreover, it was a great city car too. You could throw it around, switching lanes.
The current model looks stretched, and hence compromised, doesn't handle as well, probably the suspension is not as stiff. Engine doesn't feel as responsive either, thanks to the vvt thingy. Steering has been lightened for sure.
Also, the Swift is a complete car at that price point, but it lacks in build quality. It starts rattling within 3-4 months. This was the very reason I couldn't go for it when I lost my beloved old Swift in an accident.
My expectations from this new gen model are going to be pretty straight forward: handling of the gen 1 and build quality of the Polo/Grand i10. Looks good IMO, boot space is improved, it could very well be the best and the most complete car.

This was the reason I did not even considered it when I was looking for a premium hatchback in 2012. I can live with a slightly cramped rear as most in my family sitting in the rear are around 150cm mark but that wiered shape boot was a big no no.

This new generation is a good mixture of some good and funky looking cars and except for the rear door handle placement I pretty much like everything even the interior.

Suzuki displays the SWIFT RACER RS in the Tokyo Auto Salon,

Quote:
Swift Racer RS is equipped with 17-inch alloy wheel, low-down suspension, exclusive seat made by Recaro, roll gauge and so on. The impressive "Triton Blue" color is arranged not only for the body but also for steering, roll gauge, seat belt and so on.

The interior is also prepared for steering, console, seat belts and other colors of the same color as the body color and is gathered up in a spartan atmosphere by Recaro sheet, roll gauge

re: The 2018 next-gen Maruti Swift - Now Launched!

The rear of the new swift reminds me of Etios!! Infact Etios has a better rear if I may add.

Overall, I personally do not find anything exciting in the new version. It has all the Can't-go-wrong elements. Yet, I am more than sure, the car will rule the sales chart like no one's business!

re: The 2018 next-gen Maruti Swift - Now Launched!

The Zeta of the Ignis is more like the Delta of the Baleno featurewise.
Ignis gains -- Push start, fog lamps (compensated by Auto AC in Baleno) and alloys (15k-20k aftermarket)

So a Ignis Petrol Zeta is 5.75 ex-Delhi. A baleno Delta + Alloys is 5.89 + 15 = 6.04 which means just 30k premium.

The USP of the ignis will be a cheaper Auto else baleno is relatively more VFM.
Hope the build is S-scoss inspired and not Baleno inspired.

re: The 2018 next-gen Maruti Swift - Now Launched!

Now after the disappointment of Ignis pricing, I am wondering where Maruti is going to place the Swift. I think it is going to be more than the Baleno, but I am hoping that i am wrong.

Its reported in the Ignis thread that it has a much better interior, exterior build and paint quality. So in fact it is S Cross inspired indeed.

If you ask me, I would be glad to see the new Swift launched in the Baleno territory. Anyhow it is going to be 20k-30k dearer than the current gen, being a new platform and a new car, so let it be around 40k-50k dearer than the current gen if it gets the much deserved better build quality.
The reason why I didn't go for the Swift despite it being everything I needed, was it's below par build quality. As it looks like, they have fixed it with the Ignis. I would want Maruti to launch the new Swift ASAP now, as it would also have better build quality following the Ignis. But then with its launch prices, Ignis is not going to sell in Maruti standard numbers, this could make them think into pricing the new Swift more competitively, cutting costs, resulting in below par build quality again.

The Swift Sport to get the 1.4-liter direct-injection turbo engine + 6 MT (short stroke) transmission.
A late 2017 global launch, for India expect the SWIFT SPORT to debut in the 2018 Auto Expo.
