First up, it is the GO-cross Concept:


This looks cool no doubt. We'll have to wait and see how similar will the production version look to the concept:



The final production car, when it comes, will extend the range of the GO twins:

In India, we associate the Datsun brand with terms like low cost, budget, entry level etc. However, there's more to Datsun. With the Datsun Bluebird 1600 SSS (510) rally car, the company wants to showcase its heritage:




Trivia:

The 510 was supposed to be an unassuming looking car that delivered a little more than it appeared it should. It ended up delivering about 400,000 sales around the world, knocking the VW Beetle from the top spot for a year or two.

This was the 1970 East African Safari Rally winner, driven by E. Herrmann / H. Schüller:





About its victory:

It should be noted that the 1600 not only took overall victory in 1970, it also took class victory and manufacturers victory. To demonstrate just how tough this course is, of the 91 cars entered in 1970 - only 19 finished. Of that number 4 of the top 7 cars were 1600's, with 6 Bluebirds finishing in total.

Still I fail to see why Datsun go series never introduced an automatic version in any of their units, which could have been one key differentiator. While pricing is one thing, features and convenience also play an important role. I still feel their denial to introduce AMT in their models coupled to a confusing company strategy of operating 3 similar brands ( Datsun, Renault and Nissan) is really hurting them. IMO, only Renault really manages to push forward, but not by much.

Loved the GO Cross concept. If they can stay true to the concept for the production model too, this might garner some sales; provide it has decent interiors and is priced accordingly.

Rather than trying to provide the cheap interiors from GO, they can try a reverse funda and the car might still clock better numbers.

Is Datsun planning to take part in some rallies? That version too have some style to it. Do I see rust on the gear lever (below the white knob) in the rally model?

It's just a concept. It has the same engine and gearbox as the regular Go. If they do decide to participate, it will be tuned according to requirements. More than anything, I think it was there to try and pull crowds to the stall. But, at least they tried something different.

That Go Cross looks really promising and much more upmarket than its other Go brothers (agreed its a concept version) and yes those rims look smoking hot, real drool value!

Not sure how they hope to up the sales figures with the other Go products but Go+ seems to be doing a bit better than the smaller sibling.

Nissan India develops 1.0-litre diesel engine . The recipient of this engine is likely to be the entry level Datsun car.The car will be shorter and taller than the Kwid and priced aggressively.

The first to get that engine could be the next Datsun model, an entry-level car derived from the Redi-Go concept that is based on the CMF-A platform shared between Nissan and Renault and scheduled for a global unveil on April 14. The first engine to power the new Datsun will be the same 800cc petrol engine that's seen in the Renault Kwid.
