Re: Tata Hexa @ Auto Expo 2016

Hexa, to me looks agreeably competitive.

Power & Torque to Weight Ratio's are down, but HOW that power is delivered matters.

Tata shouldn't have skimped on the 7 seater top end variant, they'd have got many Innova Crysta customers.

I like the manual transmission. IMO It lends to a better sense of occasion when driving the car (this is a highway cruiser, where gear changes would be minimal once on the highway). The options of Hill Descent etc that Tata is giving with it are an additional delight.

P.S. : Even I'll agree that the 3rd row seat angle debate is petty. IMO please take such discussions to the technical section. Looks like the 7 seater version has the same seats as Aria, so the data should exist.

Re: Tata Hexa @ Auto Expo 2016

I have been looking forward to upgrade from my Sumo Grande MKII and eagerly waiting for Hexa. I have travelled and driven a lot on highways in my friend's Aria. I like the way it drives and the comfort. Hexa can only be better than that. Therefore upgrade to Hexa was a no brainer for me until the seat configurations were released.
I am looking at the Auto version for sure. So is either XMA or XTA, and also certain features like:
-The middle row bench seat. I want to ferry around 5 passengers in comfort without using the third row. Third row for me will be for short hauls.
-Front fog lights , DRL and rear view camera. I gotten used to front fog lights especially when driving in hills and dawn and dusk. Having driven an SUV without a rearview camera I know how useful that would be.

This leaves in me in a quandary. XMA has the mid bench row, but not the features; XTA has the features but not the mid row bench. I am sure I don't want a 2.2 Tonne behemoth for carrying just 4 people in comfort. I would rather buy a smaller SUV that is lighter in weight and on my purse. I don't know what to do. Mostly I will skip buying Hexa, I think.

Totally agree with you. Tata needs to relook at the features in the variants. You cannot get a 7 seater auto with cruise control. XMA spec + 7 seater + cruise control is my need - ready to book on day 1.

Check separately if you can get the bench through the TA.S.S & retrofit. I know it will be additional cost, but will at least get it all.

On one of my routine service visits to get my car serviced, I again ran into this taxi driver, with the same car. I asked him, how much had the car clocked in total since we last met.

Any guesses?

Six Lakh Kilometres !
On a recent trip to Colombo saw a Nano Taxi with 3,26,000 plus on Odo

Re: Tata Hexa @ Auto Expo 2016

Thanks Condor. Planning to that once the booking starts. If it is a reasonable cost then I can do that, or if someone with a bench seat is willing for a swap with the captain seats, then that would be an ideal situation for me. Will keep my fingers crossed

This is exactly the predicament that i have. I seriously don't understand why this cannot be an optional choice to the customer.

For me, a seven seater is the need. I will certainly drive the Hexa, but might end up with the XUV only for this reason. I really really hope that Tata will provide this as an optional.

When I was evaluating Crysta they told converting middle seat to 3seater bench model will void Warranty. Showroom can't do this. (Price gap on 7/8 are not huge )
I hope Hexa does that as an Optional package with Warranty coverage.

Do we see some features of Hexa being passed on to the Storme? How soon?

Re: Tata Hexa @ Auto Expo 2016

When looking through the comparison on autocarindia website, between Hexa and it's nearest competitors, I noticed that the Hexa Varicor 400 engine makes torque at much higher rpm than compared to he competition. See the numbers below:

Varicor 400 makes 400 nm @ 1750 to 2500 rpm.
XUV 500 Makes 330 nm @ 1600 to 2800 rpm
Innova 2.8D Makes 360 nm @ 1200 to 3400 rpm
Innova 2.4D Makes 343 nm @ 1400 to 2800 rpm.

The Innova engine may look much lower on torque compared to the Varicor 400, but for heavy MPVs/People Haulers, you need more torque lower down the rpm ranger rather than peaky torque like the 1.3 mutlijet which shoots out only after about 2000 rpm. I think the manual version of the Hexa Varicor 400 will have some lag when fully loaded which will to be some extend be masked by the automatic.

Anyways, I was very much convinced to replace my Duster AWD with the Hexa AWD due to space constraints in the Duster. However, I am going to wait until they launch the 4x4 Automatic version. Given our current traffic conditions which keep getting worse, year after year, I think it makes sense to go for automatics going forward.

Re: Tata Hexa @ Auto Expo 2016

Did not understand your logic man! You are comparing peak torques of different engines against their RPM, all three engines have different peak torque with XUV cranking the least and who knows (as I have not seen the graph of Vericor 400) Vericor might crank 330NM at much lower RPM than XUV.
