Re: Honda India launches mobile app & communication device - Honda Connect

Duh! My Honda Connect app is tracking somebody else's car! Apparently, my car is 476 kms from where I am.

This dude keeps idling his car for 10 or 15 mins everyday. Isn't this a serious security/privacy breach?

I too had these issues of app showing the wrong car location and trips marked as aerial distance between the points. But after last few updates, it is mostly accurate.
Try updating the app and see it helps, in case you are using the old version.

Re: Honda India launches mobile app & communication device - Honda Connect

Hello friends,

I have the Honda Connect installed on my Jazz V CVT from 22 April 2016.

It has been a pleasant experience so far - touch wood!

I have extensively used 2 features: Trips and Sharing.

Examples:
  • Trips
Once I visited a customer in Pune, with a few colleagues. Unfortunately, I forgot to update HR with this info. At the month end, I was asked if I was on leave? I could not remember. I checked the Trip data. Voila! I updated HR with exact timing and distance traveled!

Another time, I forgot to punch in. I just checked my Trips, and updated HR with exact timings.
  • Sharing
I travel regularly between Mumbai and Pune. It is just a 3~4 hours journey one way. However, it is a source of anxiety to my wife - specially when I travel in the evening - through Thane traffic! Now, all I do is to share my location on the whatsapp group, which contains my wife and daughters. Now, ALL of them know exactly where I am! A couple of times it happened that I got stuck in heavy bumper to bumper traffic. On reaching home, I was expecting my family to be tense - they were totally relaxed! Jai Honda Connect!

This is a very interesting incident! For the 15 Aug wala weekend, it was decided that the family will come to Mumbai instead of me going to Pune. So during the weekend before that I took the WagonR and left the Jazz in Pune. Afterall, for 5 persons the Jazz is definitely better than WagonR. I shared the location. Using this link, on my computer, I monitored their journey. My wife missed only one turn - and mind you - this was her first attempt! And I called up my daughter (the navigator for this trip) and gave corrective action instructions! My wife did a tension free driving, knowing that I was constantly monitoring the car. After the weekend romp, the return journey was like child's play to her! Again Jai Honda Connect!

The feature which is real good - but - and that is a BIG BUT - I am lazy. I fill petrol and do not update the km/qty/Rs/etc. I am still hoping to start using it. Let us see....

In fact, I am so happy with this feature that I am planning to add a tracker in my next car too - my Scorpio S10 AT fwd - expected some time in Sep 2016!

Another good feature is the Service History. I am sure this will be very useful at the time of selling the car! Long time for that - I know!

There are many more features. I am not marketing the product!! I am just describing what I liked.

Regards,

Girish Mahajan

Girish bhai

Did you put the tracker in your new Scorpio?

I'm looking to put trackers in my cars ( one of them is a City ), so wanted to evaluate options.

Thanks!

Honda Connect is just about OK. Accurate in tracking, but not many 'features'. Other than tracker, I find online service history in Honda Connect very useful -

Re: Honda India launches mobile app & communication device - Honda Connect

I'd like to know if this device is really worth the almost ₹8k for the hardware and ₹3k subscription, I refused it when I went for the car. There's also a Honda Dongle which costs ₹760 my sales person was pestering me to go in for one, I refused that too. He wasn't able to explain what it does; he was saying you connect it to AVN and use your hot-spot to browse: I'd rather do it on my phone. The touch on the Honda City AVN is lousy.

Depends on how fearful you are about your car being stolen or misused (when the car is given for servicing). If dealership employees are taking your car for a joyride or for some errands, you will know.

Another option is to look at third party trackers. QuikrScanner is lot cheaper (Rs. 1500) than Honda Connect and is feature rich too.

Dear avdhesh15,

Obviously Honda Tracker is for Honda cars! Jokes apart, it is from Minda and I think it should be available directly too. Though maybe the connection to Honda's databases may or may not work.

Also jokes apart, I did put a Autocop Trackpro 2000 in my Scorpio. The features on both systems are slightly different. For example, when I am using the Jazz, my wife can track me on her mobile but not on the computer's browser. On the other hand, when I am using the Scorpio, my wife can track me on the computer's browser. There is a mobile app, but it is slightly buggy.

The service data of Honda is also better. 'With You Hamesha' app of Mahindra is ok-ok.

The Honda data is available indefinitely - at least I think so! The Autocop data is available for last 30 days only. However, there is a very good feature to download the data. I do that a lot!

The Autocop one has many minor issues. However, on the whole, both are practical. It gives peace of mind to my wife, when I do long distances.

One side effect: my travel vouchers for the office are easier to make! I just look up the history and I know 'where' I had gone and 'how much' I had driven!

If you let me know what features you are looking for, then I might be able to give my advice based on the 'little' experience I have.

Regards,

Girish Mahajan

Durango Dude,

I know nothing of the 'dongle'. However, my first reaction would be similar to yours.

Regarding the tracker, I would say that it depends on your needs. If you are driving regularly like me - 2 Mumbai Pune trips a month, then it is worth it. If you have a driver, then it is worth it. If you are just using home-office runs, then it has doubtful practicality.

However, if cash flow is not an issue, then I always suggest that you should use for a year at least before deciding. After all it is just peanuts compared to the huge investment of the car itself. In extreme case, if your car gets stolen, then you can find it and (like in my Autocop / Scorpio) maybe even immobilize it remotely!

smartcat,

Both of us posted at the same time 9:29!!

Mods please excuse me - I do not know how to merge now!

I agree with you about having benefits and having cheaper options too. I have no info about quickscanner! I think the marketing of these type of devices is poor. Otherwise, we would have somebody create clear comparisons. The accessories guys just want to sell what they have in stock!

On the Honda front, I still recommend to go in for Honda only. Of course, each person should evaluate the 'value' of that purchase for himself.

I have downloaded only the Connect app and found it useful to mail myself past Car Service invoices during tax proof season at my employer. to Honda for this initiative!

Exactly the reason I need it for. I'm on the expressway at least twice a week and have drivers doing home duty.

Can you share the costs and where you got it from? Thanks in advance!

Dear avdhesh15,

If you want for Honda car, then I suggest that you go to Honda dealer for it. I do not know the latest costs involved. If I remember right, I had paid about 6k initially. The annual cost is about 2400 I think.

If you are willing to take Autocop, then you can go to any accessory shop. There are many models - from simple trackers to advance 'controlling' devices.

I hope that is enough information. Please feel free to contact me directly if you need more 'personal' information.

The accessories guys have no idea of what the function of the dongle is!! They just want to sell that's all. I've even asked them for a demo of what it does and they went silent!! About "Honda Connect": "If you have a crash sir, it will inform your family" I thought I was speaking to an undertaker not a car sales man!!

Dear Durango Dude,

Your sense of humor is immense!

Do not quote me - but I think - the dongle is a wifi transceiver - it takes a connection to a SIM based internet connection and just like a home wireless router - lets you connect your mobile or laptop or tablet.

My take is that if your mobile does not get net connection, this dongle is also not going to get one! However, it might be good for people who only use wifi for their net connection at home and office. If they would like to keep their phones with minimum net pack, then .... maybe - this is workable for them.

About Honda Connect, my first interaction with Honda dealer was similar to yours. The SA said 'why does anyone need it?' I had to find more info and educate them. After that he took the initiative and got it done for me in a jiffy! I think I was the first one in that dealership to get Honda Connect.

Regards,

Girish Mahajan
