Tamil Nadu: Manufacturers offer discounts on service of flood-damaged cars

The recent heavy rains and floods in Tamil Nadu have caused immense destruction of life and property in the state. As a goodwill-building gesture, Maruti Suzuki is offering a discounted service package for vehicles damaged in the floods.

Maruti Suzuki has estimated that more than 4,000 flood-damaged Maruti vehicles will require to be attended to immediately. These vehicles will need a thorough cleaning and polishing as they had been submerged in water.

Many of these vehicles will not have comprehensive insurance policies. The manufacturer has offered to cover 50% of the repair cost generally not allowed by insurers as depreciation or wear and tear.

Maruti has also sent additional spare parts to its workshops and technicians from other parts of the country to the state.

Additionally, Maruti has also stated that it will come up with schemes and discounts to purchase new cars through its True Value outlets in Tamil Nadu.

That's a welcome gesture from Maruti. I hope other manufacturers will also take a cue and come up with some customer friendly incentives.

Now this is worrying. How is Maruti so sure about this? Unless the cars in Chennai are getting registered with TPL only policies.

There is an huge error in the article. If the majority of vehicles don't have comprehensive insurance but only basic third party insurance, then the policy won't payout even a single penny.

It is comprehensive insurance which would payout 50% of cost while zero dep insurance would cover the whole amount.

Looks like an article written by someone with zero knowledge of the insurance industry.

This indeed is a great gesture from Maruti. Builds a lot of goodwill and confidence towards the brand.

@ragavsr - could be an error. So if comprehensive insurance pays out 50%, is maruti taking care of the rest 50%? Tood good to be true, still.

Tata Motors is also offering some special scheme for flood affected cars, not sure about exact details of the scheme though.

Lovely move by MSIL. And there is no first mover advantage here, its a customer goodwill and other manufactures should follow; there is nothing to be ashamed of it.

Customer will love companies for this goodwill gesture. Hyundai, Nissan, Renault and Ford have plants in the region and thus spare parts as well as qualified repairs can be done easily by them for their cars.

Please help your customers !

Tamil Nadu: Manufacturers offering discounts on service of flood-damaged cars

Mods, Please Change the Title of this thread from "Maruti" to "Manufacturers". There are quite a few automobile manufacturers who are offering discounts for repairing the vehicles affected by flood.

Below given are a couple of more advertisements from newspapers in Chennai.

You misunderstood the article IMO. What it is saying is that most people who don't have comprehensive insurance will need to pay from pocket. So to lighten their burden Maruti has decided to foot 50% of the bill and such owners will only need to pay the remaining 50%.

This is a brilliant gesture by Maruti and Ford, should help ease the stress on customers and it is so nice to see a few companies caring this much for their customers. Maruti was always great, nice to ser Ford also offering free oil change and opening workshops till 10 PM.

Well done guys.

Thanks for correcting my wrong assumption.

The regional news channels here were saying that auto companies have agreed to cover the depreciation part not covered by comprehensive insurance. Only someone who is in touch with the service centers can confirm the fineprint.

The two wheeler manufacturers have also offered discounts on labour charges.

God's grace my street was bone dry and even the other places in my locality had no major water logging with a maximum of 1 feet of water in very few places.

These floods have made people think 1 feet of water looged roads is minor considering that water levels reached 10-15 feet in the affected places.

Re: Tamil Nadu: Manufacturers offer discounts on service of flood-damaged cars

Maruti is once again showing why they lead the market by such a wide margin. Owners at different points in time found better responses from Maruti to their respective sticky issues and the words spread. Once again the same thought leadership is at the fore here. I was curious and hence wanted to see if these announcements were random. Well, looks like the first one came out on 8th Dec from Maruti whereas 9th onwards others started announcing similar measures. So in all probabilities the original thought came from Maruti. Still all the other manufacturers who found the idea worthwhile and quickly embraced it are all worthy of kudos. CSR when not forced is the most beautiful!
