The difference between BSIV and BSVI for Petrol isn't much both technically and on price. The challenge is with Diesel.

re: BS6 / BSVI emission norms coming in April 2020! EDIT: BS6 Phase II coming in April 2023

Can someone with subject knowledge on this topic, confirm if this is true: "The difference between BS-IV and BS-VI fuel is the significant reduction of Sulphur, which will come down to 10ppm in BS-VI fuel as compared to 50 ppm in BS-IV fuel. Interestingly, Sulphur also contributes to the smooth running of diesel cars. Now if you use BS-VI fuel with low content of Sulphur in BS-IV cars, they will face some glitch in the longer run." Minister: BS6-compliant vehicles in Delhi from April 2020.

Why compliant ? Is it not to be BS6? And why specific to Delhi- is it not supossed to be pan -India?

We've discussed this before - https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/india...v-engines.html

As outlined in this particular discussion, I trust that the lubricity additives which will be added to BS 6 diesel in the place of Sulfur will do its job. I trusted this info enough to buy a BS 4 diesel car in 2018.

Maruti Suzuki advertises that some of its petrol engines are BS6 complaint. But there is no badge indicating anywhere on the vehicle that it's BS6 nor found on Form 23 or is it Form 22. Its not found even on RC. Where can one find if it's a BS6 vehicle. Thanks.

Autocar has compiled a list of cars which will go out of production post March 2020. Some of these are brilliant machines, available for a killer price.

Quote:
Renault Duster AWD
Ford Ecosport S ( Ecoboost)
Maruti Ertiga 1.5 Diesel
Tata Hexa Auto
VW Ameo TDI AT
Toyota Corolla Altis
Nissan Sunny

The article is very well written but there is one blunder which team Autocar had made earlier also. They have included the Hexa in it. We all know that Hexa is not going to be discontinued post BS6. Then why Autocar keeps saying that it will be axed is beyond me.

I don't think they can discontinue diesel Ertiga either. If this news is true, it means no diesel Swift, DZire, Ciaz etc etc.

Maruti has already clarified that the 1.3 multijet diesel won't meet BS6 norms and the new 1.5 diesel, though able to meet BS6 norms if worked upon, won't be upgraded for the time being. If Maruti feels the need to upgrade it post April 2020 after studying the market conditions then they will definitely upgrade it.

So Autocar is correct in saying that the Ertiga diesel will be axed post BS6 and that also includes diesel versions of Swift,Dzire,Ciaz etc.

re: BS6 / BSVI emission norms coming in April 2020! EDIT: BS6 Phase II coming in April 2023

I hear a new problem for BS6 diesel which will be used soon in our country. Bacteria growth inside fuel tank due to low sulphur content! Noticed it in Scotty's channel. Any idea if this will be a serious issue in a hot country like India?

It appears that high sulphur helped prevent bacterial growth inside fuel tanks of diesel cars. With reduction in sulphur, there seems to be issue in controlling slime.

A quick search on Google did not throw up any products available in India to address this problem, while quite a few are available in USA/UK. It would be fair to assume that fuel 'quality' in those markets is better compared to what we get in India, in my opinion. Therefore, the problem could be quite real.

Someone with better knowledge about fuels, please comment.

Agreed. April 2020 is not just compliant. It is conforming

Today I saw advts from Maruti about their cars being BS-VI already. In Delhi (and NCR) BS6 fuel is already available.

I was worried about the BS4 - BS6 changeover but then I saw a scan of an RC with BS4/6 already. So maybe things are Ok.

This is in continuation about Maruti cars with BS6 engines being sold right now. I saw an advertisement in newspaper today and it did show 8 cars with BS6 engine. But Ignis was missing from the list. Does it mean that Ignis will not be getting the BS6 engine and will be discontinued from April 2020?
