re: The 2016 Hyundai Tucson. EDIT: Launched

Everyone was expecting the Creta to be priced sub 10L or Max 12-13L on road for the top end model, but you know how it panned out. Hyundai saw the buzz and excitement and took a big gamble to price it at 17L OTR and the gamble paid off big time with waiting periods in excess of 6 months.

Tucson will no way be priced below 18L OTR. For starters it has a 2L engine and the closest competitor in that range would be XUV500 which is really no competition in terms of build quality and interiors. Tucson would really be competing in the space between XUV500 and Honda CRV. The gap between Creta (top end 17L OTR) and Santa Fe (Top end 36L) is huge. They can easily fit Tucson in the 18-22L bracket and still have a winner. It wont be a huge volume seller like Creta, but will find its takers in people who want something better than XUV500 but dont want to go with Honda CRV because of its dated platform and looks and of course no diesel option.

re: The 2016 Hyundai Tucson. EDIT: Launched

I got a call from the Hyundai dealer in Bangalore enquiring how my 3 years old Verna is doing and if I am looking for an upgrade. Subtle marketing from Hyundai. So, I enquired about the Tucson launch and he said that the launch is for April/May. I was expecting a 2H 2016 launch, but April/May launch is a good news. He confirmed that it will launch with the 2.0L diesel (and not the 1.7L diesel), but wasn't sure about AWD or other features.

re: The 2016 Hyundai Tucson. EDIT: Launched

Hoping they launch the auto with the 2L crdi engine with the 7 speed double clutch transmission (DCT). 185 PS with 410 NM of torque as per their global site. Very promising! And also hope they have a top spec auto unlike the Creta. This is one launch I'm eagerly awaiting! Am guessing it'll be priced in 20-25 L range and go up against the Yeti.

2017 Tuscon imported for testing in both manual and automatic variants. Powered by the expected 2.0 R CRDi (diesel) engine.

7-speed DCT only on 1.6L engine, above comes with 6-speed auto gearbox.

Mileage of 6 kmpl for AT and 9 kmpl for MT? Is that close to real?

re: The 2016 Hyundai Tucson. EDIT: Launched

Nice vehicle not overdone in the Fluidic manner.

I expect Bangalore OTR to be around 25+ lakhs. The top-end Creta is nearly 18 lakhs here and they will want to maintain a healthy gap between the Creta and the steeply priced higher spec Santa Fe which comes to around 42 lakhs here.

re: The 2016 Hyundai Tucson. EDIT: Launched

Hope that Hyundai will not cut down features as they did in the Creta.

Creta Automatic with all the bells and whistles and all the safety features such as six or more airbags and every other feature which is offered in other Asian countries would have made it a very complete compact SUV. Sunroof is sorely missed on the Creta.

However to keep the price bracket within a certain limit Hyundai went on to cut down features. Lets hope that the same will not be done with the Tucson.

The hybrids or even mild hybrids such as the Ciaz SVHS attract smaller excised duty when compared to non hybrid cars. Actually the rate of excise duty on hybrid cars is less than half when compared to non hybrid cars. So it will be a wise decision on part of the auto manufacturers to adopt hybrid technology and offer their cars at a very competitive price point. Hope Hyundai does it with Tucson at least.

re: The 2016 Hyundai Tucson. EDIT: Launched

Pricing it above 20L is taking the Tucson fight to the Endeavour! And the Endeavour seems like the next segment. But Hyundai doesn't have much space to play in with the Creta priced at 17L. Eagerly waiting to see Hyundai's strategy.

But Hyundai already have the 5+2 seater Santa Fe to work in that space. A bit around 20 lakhs or above will be a sweet spot for the Tucson.

re: The 2016 Hyundai Tucson. EDIT: Launched

Model to model, the Elantra is 2-3 lakhs cheaper than its German rivals.
I expect the Tucson to be priced at par with the Jetta and the Octavia, i.e. the top-end model will be priced at around 20-22 lakhs ex-showroom. The new Elantra might be priced between the Tucson and the present Elantra.

re: The 2016 Hyundai Tucson. EDIT: Launched

I think its all about the pricing, but looking from hyundai attitude in the past few launches i would guess this to be priced just below SantaFe

re: The 2016 Hyundai Tucson. EDIT: Launched

The 2016 Hyundai Tucson was spotted for the very first time during it's maiden testing run on the streets of Chennai by a Motoroids reader.

The 2016 Hyundai Tucson. EDIT: Launched-2016hyundaitucsonindiaspyimage.jpg

The SUV is slotted for an August 2016 launch, with an expected pricing range between Rs.17 lacs - Rs.22 lacs. It will be brought into India via the CBU route initially.

re: The 2016 Hyundai Tucson. EDIT: Launched

Autocar India's news article - Hyundai Tucson to launch in India this year - puts the expected price tag at INR 17-22 lakhs. Seems attractively priced if the base model has sufficient features & safety kit. The article also alludes to this being the widest SUV in the segment

But at these prices it might just end-up magnifying that Creta is overpriced (sells a lot though)

re: The 2016 Hyundai Tucson. EDIT: Launched

Tucson is looking like a combination of Creta and I20 with more length and width. Hopefully they will fill it with all the bells and whistles available in all the planets.
Anyways, i am not eagerly waiting for it. Even though they give me 50% discount, it will be out of my budget .
