The Creta Diesel M/T top variant sells at 14.xxL ex showroom, whereas the bottom variant Tuscon Diesel is 21.xxL ex showroom. That difference is around 50%. That is normal between segments (Octavia Vs Superb or Amaze Vs City or 3 Series Vs 5 Series or X1 Vs X3) bottom variant to bottom variant.

In the case of Tucson Vs X1, the basic difference between two almost similar sized vehicles with similar size engines is more than 25%. Definitely the BMW badge and the depth of engineering takes the X1 to a different league, I agree.

But I feel that both vehicles appeal to two different buyer population. People who want the product and brand attributes of a BMW X1 would normally consider the likes of the Mercedes GLA and AudiQ3 as alternatives. The typical Tucson buyer, as of now, is left with the CRV as a competitor. Thus I do not see many prospective Tucson buyers daring to look at the swanky BMW showroom.

I have driven the previous X1 and the original Tucson in India (very rare in my state) but neither the new X1 nor the Tucson. But the distance between the Hyundai and the BMW is narrower than before, I think.

As for the current crop goes, there are some comparisons on the internet, and some rate the Tucson as good as the X1, but with a price gap of around 35%. In India, that gap is around 40% at 25,43,427 Vs 35,70,224 for top end Diesel and more than 25% 23,89,742 Vs 30,50,863 for the bottom end Diesel Automatics.

I know very well that it is futile for we people to keep on discussing these figures here.

The real thing is out there in the market, where people surely have quite different ways of looking at choosing a car.

So for those in the market for a soft roader Diesel with around 30L to spend, I suggest we wait for a Team BHP opinion on the Tucson.

EDIT: Aw, no argument from my side that the Tuscon would have been way nicer if Hyundai asked 25L OTR instead of 30L for the CRDi GLS A/T !

Hey Krish. Congrats. Any idea on the insurance quote you've received from the dealership? Also, any discounts or freebies offered?

Thanks. Comprehensive Bumper to Bumper insurance with Reliance at 1.04L. Floor mat was offered free I guess (though it wasn't explicitly mentioned). I have done 3M high gloss vinyl wrap on the roof additionally.

Re: The 2016 Hyundai Tucson. EDIT: Launched

NDTV Auto reports that the 2016 Tucson has garnered over 200 bookings. 75 per cent of these bookings are for the diesel variants, while 55 per cent of the overall bookings are for the top-spec diesel automatic.

My friend's car ( GLS ) has reached Bangalore, he is out of town till next Monday and will be taking the delivery on December 1st. He got a quote of 57.5K for zero depreciation insurance from Tata AIG. I will be going tomorrow for the PDI.

Congrats. She looks super! What's bumper to bumper exactly? 100% coverage? Also, what type of floor mats were they? Any other official accessories available? HUD? Boot mat?

That's about half of what Krish was quoted! Is that for the petrol? Are you taking it from outside the showroom? Also do they offer cashless at all Hyundai service centres?

Selfish me but I feel the higher variants with additional driver aids should carry a lower premium.

Congrats of the car! I did a test drive of the diesel AT and it was really impressive. Felt more refined and improved in all aspects compared to the Creta.

Interesting positioning too. A prospective X1, Q3, GLA, may be even Superb buyer ought to consider this as an option.

Btw, is 'beige' the only interior colour option on the top end? Seat looks 'black' in the picture, hence asking.

Yes, it is a comprehensive insurance. Floor mats are fabric (black). No other accessories available at the moment. In fact I didn't even ask for any.

Thanks. There are no color options as far as I know. The top end comes only in Beige.

GLS is available only in Diesel AT. Yes Tata AIG has cashless service with Hyundai atleast with the ones in Bangalore and yes friend got it from outside and Trident didnt have a problem with it. SA actually said if you are getting the insurance for cheap elsewhere please go ahead, there is no compulsion to buy from us.

Below is his break-up cost

Ex Showroom : 25,43,427 /-
Road Tax : 5,08,179/-
TCS : 25,435/-
Zero depreciation b2b Insurance : 57,625/-

Total : 31,34,666/-

Good to see that there is no handling charge from Trident , every showroom is charging huge amount these days.

Since friend asked my help for following up with delivery. The SA called me today saying floor mats from Hyundai are given at no cost.

Edit : Typos.

Thanks for this. I saw a few places online like HDFC and Bajaj-Al and for zero dep b2b and most of them are around the 90k mark. How'd they (your friend and/or the insurance agent) manage to pull this off? Did they factor in a transferred NCB? That's a sweet price to be honest but dang that road tax.

No transferred NCB. It was a direct contact to Tata AIG sales agent. The car IDV is 23,45,437/-.

Road tax in Karnataka is stupidly high, it's the highest in the country
