When is the Vitara coming to India? Currently the Creta is the only true premium option in the 12-15 lac crossover section. Heck the Creta has now become a more or less common sight on the road. Why is Maruti sleeping on this and letting Hyundai make all the hay?

Suzuki Vitara spotted again. Intention of Maruti Suzuki on testing the Vitara is not very clear - Is it for launch here or is it on some R&D testing for the Grand Vitara ?

Revealed in 2 petrol engine options - 1.0L and 1.4L boosterjet engines internationally.

May add a diesel for India . ( Units being tested here could reveal the power-train options for India)

Suzuki has unveiled the 2019 Vitara. The new model features visual updates as well as technical changes. It will be introduced in the UK market in September 2018.



The new Vitara features a redesigned front grille with 6 vertical chrome slats flanked by LED headlights on both sides. It gets a new dual-tone front bumper with circular fog lamps with C-shaped chrome trim and LED DRLs. The rear features LED tail lights and a dual-tone bumper. The SUV comes in two-tone colour schemes and rides on dual-tone alloy wheels.



On the inside, the new Vitara gets a soft touch dashboard and a new twin-pod instrument cluster with a colour MID. New safety features like Dual Sensor Brake Support, Lane Departure Warning and Prevention, Traffic Sign recognition, Blind Spot Monitor and Rear cross traffic alert have now been introduced on the SUV.



In the UK, the 2019 Vitara will be offered with a 1.0-litre and 1.4-litre Boosterjet turbo petrol engines, which replaces the 1.6-litre petrol unit. The SZ4 and SZ-T variants get the 1.0-litre, 110 BHP turbocharged petrol engine. All-wheel drive is available as an option on the SZ-T trim equipped with a manual transmission. The 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol engine produces 139 BHP and 220 Nm of torque @ 1,500-4,000 rpm.



Test mules of the previous model have been caught testing over the past few months in India. However, it is not yet known if Maruti plans to launch the Vitara in India.

Is the Booster jet again derived from the Fiat 1.4 Tjet or did they develop the engine independently. Generally i have seen Suzuki has a lot of sharing from Fiat, be it cars or engines.

Good to see Suzuki getting the turbo petrol in India. Hopefully this will encourage other companies to do the same.

If Maruti can get this to India with 1.6 Multijet, this will be a Creta killer. Not only will it attract Maruti loyals, 1.6 will pull enthusiasts as well. I believe size wise this is little bigger than Creta!

Very good looking machine. Maruthi really needs high output diesel engines though. The 1.3 would just be too small for this car.

Also, it Maruti really needs to up the safety aspect by offering a 6 airbag variant at least as an option for the safety-conscious buyers. Any one looking for 6 airbags have to look elsewhere at the moment.

Interesting to see how they will price it even if they launch it ?

S-Cross already competes with Creta, though on the lower price point only.
Vitara on the other hand might stretch beyond XUV (towards compass) if they decide not to hurt the S-Cross sales.

I'm sorry but I am very apprehensive about the Vitara coming to India for the simple fact that it is 4 year old vehicle already (recall seeing it at the 2014 Paris Motor show the firs time) and Maruti does not have a diesel engine yet for its application. We have no signs of the 1.5L diesel yet, it continues to be under testing, and is not going to make it to the Ciaz or maybe even the Ertiga (if its sticks to the original arrival date of late 2018).

This car was designed for the European markets where there is a crossover craze, and if MSIL is considering it, by the time they launch it here, it would be a 5-year old or 6-year old design.

MSIL is such a force that it doesn't need to borrow an old vehicle to realize what could be its most profitable model. The Creta is a beast now, and if Maruti doesn't get it right the first time, this is going the SX4 way. Also consider that Hyundai is renewing the Creta in 2020, VW is redoing the T-Cross (only some modules and panels of the European vehicle will be found on the Indian T-Cross) and yeah Ford, Nissan and others will have one for this segment. The Vitara will be the oldest model in this lot.

I feel Maruti will do its own SUV for India, and for larger body classes, it can look to Toyota and the TNGA for filling out the empty slots further afield. I gather that for the time being, an Ertiga based crossover (like the BR-V - Mobilio symbiosis) is under development, and will come out next year.

As for the Vitara prototypes in India, Maruti is regularly trialing its JDM vehicles here for technology or just validation and global testing. Solio is also here, it has nothing to do with our market as MSIL is not switching to HEARTECT for the new Wagon R family.

I am not sure whether this has been reported earlier. Rushlane.com is carrying a front page article on the new Vitara being showcased to dealers. It also talks about the engine and other details.
