NEW DELHI: Tata Motors on Wednesday slashed prices of its passenger vehicles by Rs 3300-217000 passing on price benefits to its customers post GST.
So they have done it, price correction in guise of GST. Top end Hexa is cheaper by Rs 2.17Lakh.

Hexa top end model was priced at 17.49L and is cheaper by 2.17L after GST

Fortuner top end was priced at 31.86L and is cheaper by the same 2.17L after GST !

How come the reduction in price is same for both ?

The article doesn't mention anywhere that it is Hexa which has received a price cut of upto Rs.2.17 lakhs, wait till the official prices are released.

Here you go, News from Autocar mentioning Hexa price cut.
In fact the news claim price cut of Rs 9400-52000 for Tiago and Rs 11000-60000 for Tigor, which is hard to believe.
Quote:
While the revised model- and trim-wise pricing is yet to be finalised, prices are expected to be down by as much as 12 percent. Autocar India has learnt the Hexa will now be cheaper to the tune of Rs 1.04 lakh to Rs 2.17 lakh, depending on variant. Prior to GST, Hexa prices ranged from Rs 11.99 lakh to Rs 17.57 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). The price revision is sure to give a fillip to the big crossover's sales.
Quote:
Tata has also cut prices of its Tiago hatchback that only recently crossed the 1 lakh bookings milestone. The Tiago will be cheaper by Rs 9,400-52,000 which is a massive reduction on an already value-for-money product. For reference, the Tiago cost between Rs 3.30 lakh and Rs 5.84 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) prior to the implementation of GST
Quote:
The newly launched Tigor compact sedan has also benefited from the price revision. Prices are down from Rs 11,000-60,000. Pre-GST, the compact sedan's prices ranged from Rs 4.70-7.09 lakh. The Tigor was already the most affordable of all compact sedans on offer and with the price cuts, the difference to models like the new Maruti Dzire will only grow larger still.

The price cut for Tiago & Tigor sounds too good to be true imo.
In fact, the below article from gaadiwaadi mentions a price cut of Rs. 1.5lakhs on Hexa, irrespective of the variant. That's why I am a little apprehensive till I see the official price list from Tata itself.

Mahindra has updated new prices on their website. Price drop is not impressive.

Because the ground clearance clause earlier resulted in slightly lesser duty on XUV which now makes a 3% difference. That's how it is like a lottery.

I still dont find the prices updated on the Hyundai website.

If Creta gets a discount of 1.19 lakhs as being suggested in the article, assume Tucson prices to fall by 2 lakhs which is what I want

Re: GST effect on car prices?

Toyota Fortuner variant-wise price difference post-GST

Here is the full price list of the Toyota Fortuner pre-GST and post-GST.

Fortuner Petrol
Variant Pre-GST price Post-GST price

2.7 4X2 MT 26,66,000 24,40,900 difference 2,25,100
2.7 4X2 AT 28,35,000 25,95,900 difference 2,39,100

Fortuner Diesel
Variant Pre-GST price Post-GST price

2.8 4X2 MT 28,26,000 25,87,600 difference 2,38,400
2.8 4X2 AT 29,88,000 27,36,100 difference 2,51,900
2.8 4X4 MT 30,79,000 28,19,500 difference 2,59,500
2.8 4X4 AT 31,86,000 29,17,700 difference 2,68,300

For the Fortuner, prices have been slashed between INR 2.25 Lakhs – INR 2.68 Lakhs
, making it the biggest benefactor of the new tax reform in Toyota’s model range. Like the Innova Crysta, the Fortuner is now subjected to a uniform tax rate of 43 percent (28 + 15), against the pre-GST rate of 55.3 percent. With such a significant reduction in price, expect consumer interest on the Fortuner to increase this fiscal.

Re: GST effect on car prices?

In Bangalore, fortuner 4X4 MT ex-showroom price is 28,98,500 post GST.
I am not sure about the above mentioned price slash number. I think it was more like 1.8L for this variant.

Thats correct. None of the dealers or Toyota is able to explain it.

2.8 4x4 MT was priced at 31,09,000 in Bangalore before GST. Even if considering the price cut in Delhi, which is 2,59,500 for the variant - The price should be 28,49,500 but Toyota website reads 28,98,500.

Re: GST effect on car prices?

Price list of the XUV500, Rexton & Scorpio, pre & post GST. This is at Raipur, Chhattisgarh.

GST effect on car prices?-image2.jpg

In June, the XUV500 carried a total of Rs 1,00,000/- on discounts:

Rs 75,000/- cash discount under M&M offer,
Rs 15,000/- exchange bonus,
Rs 10,000/- corporate discount.

Post-GST, M&M has withdrawn all offers and reduced prices by ~Rs 58,000 - ~Rs 94,000 for the XUV500.

GST effect on car prices?-image1.jpg

Net result = Very nominal decrease in OTR pricing for the W8 MT & above variants, while the W4 MT & W6 MT variants have actually become costlier!

Mahindra & Mahindra has updated it's websites with the new pricing.

Here's the XUV500's pricing section:

As with most other companies, it seems like Mumbai again sees the highest reduction in post-GST ex-showroom prices.

Why is that lower variant is slashed by a lower value while the the higher variants enjoy greater benefits? Shouldn't all the variants get the same price cut given they are mechanically identical?? Is it not illegal under anti-profiteering law to withheld the benefits due to GST??
