This will again be the same engine found in Zest (Fiat's National 1.3L MJD) with the 89 BHP tune. I read in this thread that Tata is looking at a new 1.5L mill but I highly doubt it's timing.

They already have the RevoTORQ engine and will be using the same. Definitely not the 1.3L mill from Fiat.

Yup, I have the same dilemma but the Tiago currently uses the 1.05L Revotorq Engine which in my opinion would definitely not be a fit for this car in it's current tune (segment is offering upto a 1.5L Diesel).

Either TATA would have to use a different turbocharger which isn't anywhere on the cards since the Revotron 1.2L was picked for this upgrade.

Or if TATA decides to launch a newer, bigger engine from the Revotorq Family (which in my opinion would be the only logical reason for delay in launch :Frustrati).

But with diesels loosing ground and new compliance norms coming in, I doubt it's timing & also Nexon for it's launch.

A Nexon testing mule has been spotted in Tamil Nadu by a TAI reader.

The prototype masked it's red colour shade underneath, and was shod with 16-inch wheels, according to the OP.

Here's my assumptions on Engine-Transmission mating options:

1> Petrol-Manual
This will be the same engine found in Zest with a slightly different tune.
2> Petrol-Turbo
This will be the 120 BHP tune owing to the turbocharger on 1.2L Petrol Engine. This will be seen in Tiago Sports too.

The petrol motor on Zest already is a turbo-charged 1.2L Revotron unit. Here it would need a bigger turbo for decent performance considering the weight of the car would be more than the already 1100kg+ Zest. Source

Love the interiors of the car and ofcourse the funky styling at the rear. Am on the lookout for a decent petrol powered premium hatch/pseudo-SUV as my next upgrade. If the latest offerings by tata is anything to go by, this will surely be one super VFM proposition. High hopes on this one. Don't screw this TATA please:

As per the reports so far, both the diesel & petrol engines will produce 110 bhp. The diesel will be a new 1.5L unit while I guess the 1.2L petrol engine will be tweaked to produce 110 bhp too, probably using a bigger turbocharger and updated ECU. I am guessing it'll be a 1.2L petrol engine without which TATA can't get the excise benefits.

Plus, we have seen the TATA Vista / Bolt sports concept producing 120 bhp from the 1.2L engine, so should definitely be possible.

Can it be that Tata is adding a turbo to Tiago petrol engine? Zest petrol engine is old unit from Indica days, while the Tiago one is a modern 4-valve aluminum engine. Considering that Zest / Bolt were more of a transition between old and new, new cars shouldn't fall back upon the old engines.

I think you guys haven't been following this thread. The petrol will be the Tiago's 1.2L 16v one, with a turbo on top. Zest has got a 8 valve engine that won't be in production for long.

I dont know the technical possibilities. But can the 3 cylinder 1.2 on Tiago be converted to a four cylinder 1.2? I seriously doubt that Tata is going to launch Nexon with a 3 cylinder engine.

Isn't it a 3cyl unit? 16v? Thanks for the update. :)

Why not? Ecosport carries a 3cylinder 1.0L engine producing a whopping 125bhp. Its very much possible but does tata have the expertise to pull this off? Guess, only time will tell. agree:

A couple of Nexon test mules were caught on camera by an Overdrive reader.

Among other things, they also give a peek at the interiors of the production-ready version.

Quote:

The camouflaged test mules reveal the now radiator grille design, also seen on the Tiago and other products in the portfolio. The headlight profile remains similar to the one shown in the concept; however, the test models have a temporary lights affixed in the headlight recess. The bumper looks muscular and also displays the central air dam along with a higher positioned fog lamp housing. It is already known that the Tata Nexon gets a ground clearance of 200mm and will run on 215-section 16-inch tyres. Instead of alloys, the test mules came with regular steel wheels, meaning the version being tested is a mid-range or an entry-level variant. The rear profile too appeared heavily camouflaged, but the details seen on the mules are new compact lights, wider bumper as well as a skid plate positioned underneath.

Looks like the KITE will do a "KWID" in terms of looks for its segment. The rear 3 -quarter looks very stylish indeed!

With the latest photos above, Tata has killed it for me. I thought the Nexon would be a proper compact SUV but no, look at the height comparison with the Kite compact sedan. I dislike these new crop f compact SUVs that are a size of the hatchback but posing to be a smaller SUV.

Could have made it a tad taller Tata, at least like the Ford EcoSport. :(

I spotted the Nexon undergoing testing between Satara and Pune this sunday
