re: The Datsun Redi-Go Hatchback

I have mixed feelings towards Redi-Go. The Concept looked cool. But the production ready model looks not-so-impressive. Looks more like Zen Estilo.

The Datsun Redi-Go Hatchback-redigoconceptproduction.jpg

Some of the design elements in the production model is slightly different. The headlights appear a bit bulky (photo angle, perhaps?) compared to the sleek ones in the concept. The colored front skid plate in the concept is missing in the production ready model. It increases the bulkiness on the front design now. A matte-black stickering would have helped in breaking that.

The wheel cover design is not upto the mark. Somehow it does not strike the right balance.

The dashboard is a let down. what was going on in the designer's mind, when he designed a circular vent, and a horizontal vent next to it? How did the design head approved this type of design? Mahindra's design team looks like a better design team now.

*sigh*

re: The Datsun Redi-Go Hatchback

Redi-GO has quirky design. It can give tough competition to Hyundai Eon on quirky-ness front, if not on any other. Yes, they may price it below Kwid, but it seems difficult that price difference would be anything beyond 20k across the range.
By paying that difference, if you get company fitted touch screen infotainment system, better cabin and superior exterior design, anyone would happily go with Kwid than Redi-Go.

Another problem Redi-Go will face at launch is launch of Kwid 1.0 and Kwid easy-R AMT. I know, these new K(w)ids won't compete with redi-go but will help Renault to draw the attention back to their boy.

I see Redi-Go doing not more than 1000 units sale each month, max!

Re: The Datsun Redi-Go Hatchback

NDTV Auto says that the Redi-Go will start at 2.5L and will be priced ~Rs 10,000 less than the Kwid variant to variant.

Seems to be too small a difference to make a impact just based on price.

Re: The Datsun Redi-Go Hatchback

Here comes the Horror story!
Datsun has gone the farthest mile with weight reduction.
IAB reports that the Redi-Go is lighter by 25KG than Kwid
I believe Kwid is lightest petrol car available today in India, which weighs around 660 Kg.
It seems that Global NCAP will get another chance to bash Nissan / Datsun.

Nano is the lightest:
Nano 600 kg
Nano CX 615 kg
Nano LX 635 kg
http://nano.tatamotors.com/technical...fications.html

If it is 25kgs less than Kwid (at 660 as you say), it is at 635Kgs, which isn't surprising at all.
Personally I was more surprised with the weight of the Baleno (The reasons may be anything)

I remember reading somewhere that Renault Kwid is lightest in it's segment and Tata Nano is part of that segment.
Upon checking, I've found that none of the media houses considers Nano to be a part of an entry level car segment Being a Nano owner, I was sad to see that.
Thanks for correcting my facts.

But anyway, Nano has more compact dimentions and has smaller engine and other components.
The Redi-Go, even after covering more carpet area and with bigger and ofcourse heavy engine weighs this much light.
Which is concerning.
Especially when we have seen the way Go is being built.

Re: The Datsun Redi-Go Hatchback

Redi GO first look video by Autocar. Hormazd Sorabjee mentions that the length is only 3400 mm, They should have managed a protruding bumper and that could have made it look much better. For the segment and the possible pricing, the car looks good.

Re: The Datsun Redi-Go Hatchback

So the Redi Go has apparently garnered around 150 bookings in 04 days in Mumbai alone! Wow, that is surprising considering that the consumers still do not have much of the details about the car yet (how it drives, variants, etc.)

Re: The Datsun Redi-Go Hatchback

Datsun 'redi-GO' bookings open on 1st May

Datsun will be accepting pre-launch bookings for the 'redi-GO' from 1st May, 2016. Interested customers can pre-book the car at Nissan dealerships as well as Snapdeal.com. The booking amount is a fully refundable Rs. 5,000. The redi-GO is scheduled for an official launch in June, with deliveries starting in the same month.

The car is built on the CMF-A platform which is shared with the Renault Kwid. It also uses the same 0.8L, 3 -cylinder petrol engine and 5-speed manual gearbox as the Kwid. Datsun's latest was unveiled on April 14, 2016 (click there to read the report). It will have ground clearance of 185 mm.

The redi-GO would be competing against the likes of the Alto, its cousin Kwid and Hyundai's Eon. Datsun says that it will be priced aggressively between Rs. 2.5 - 3.5 lakh.

You said it! And its not just the statutory bodies (NCAP, etc). I believe many of these global MNC mfrs. have decided that India is the milch cow with the least value-of-human-life index in the world. And have thus decided to launch model after model (with the Baleno at 865 kg as a recent example) with the flimsiest, light-as-a-feather structures, obviously throwing even the proverbial fig-leaf out of the window, as far as safety is concerned. They really seem to have the pulse of the Indian car-buying public spot on....... a few thousand more deaths on the roads every day, how does it matter? Oh, it will certainly reduce the population willy-nilly!

Re: The Datsun Redi-Go Hatchback

The Datsun Redi-Go is scheduled for a June 2016 launch. It will be the third offering from Datsun in India. The car will be positioned against the Maruti Suzuki Alto, Hyundai Eon and Renault Kwid.

The specifications of the Redi-Go have been revealed. The car measures 3,429 mm in length, 1,560 mm in width and 1,541 mm in height. It has a ground clearance of 185 mm, which is 5 mm more than its cousin Kwid.

The engine specifications confirm that initially, there will be no 1-litre petrol engine available. The car will come with a 0.8-litre, 3-cylinder, petrol engine that can develop 53 BHP @ 5,678 rpm and 72 Nm of torque @ 4,388 rpm. The engine is mated to a 5-speed manual transmission.

According to Datsun, the Redi-Go can return a fuel efficiency figure of 25.17 kpl.

Among other features, the car will have a speed sensitive electric power steering and 13-inch wheels shod with 155/80 section tyres. It will come in five colour options - lime, silver, bronze gray, ruby and white.

Datsun has started accepting bookings for the Redi-Go since May 1, 2016 (Click to read report).

Re: The Datsun Redi-Go Hatchback

Looks like these cars have already reached the showroom and are undergoing workshop test runs.

Manages to Look quite good for the segment (despite not pretending to be anything else than a hatchback) , also looks better in real than the pictures suggest.
