re: The Datsun Redi-Go Hatchback

Any update on the pricing?

I am not too sure, but looking at the overall car, wondering why did they even need to undertake this exercise. Sharing platform with the fabulous Kwid, this should have been much better executed.

No wonder the footfall on this thread is so low.

Few observations from these photos:

No body coloured ORVMs
Fixed headrests in the front, none at the back
Has DRLs
Long antenna
No alloys
Looks like it has good boot space

This looks like another dud from Datsun. I was expecting a lot more as this was based on the Kwid platform. Imagine having the looks and all the features of the Kwid at 85-90% of its price.
I can't say anything about the price yet but by the way it looks it has already lost to the Kwid and the Alto. Even if they give all the features of the Kwid in this car, it will still be a dud because the looks of the Kwid have played a major role in its success. This one looks like a shrunken GO, except for the rear.

I for a change, do not agree with you. I do not consider this car to be a competition to the Alto, but to Nano and Kwid only. No car for now, is big enough to step into the shoes of the Alto (22,000 plus units a month).

Having said that, this car surely has the potential to be a hit. Why I think so? read on:

1. The design language is fresh and the car looks good.
2. It'll be priced below the competition.
3. If Nano can sell 700 + units a month, this car can surely do similar numbers, if not more.
4. It has DRL's; For many, it'll be a major draw!

PS: I am hoping, that they have used high tensile steel this time.

A couple of high resolution pics from Autocar India.

Quoting from the article -

Quote:
The Redigo is based on the Renault-Nissan Alliance’s flexible Common Module Family (CMF) engineering architecture that also underpins the Kwid. In fact, the hatchback is the first Datsun product to be based on this platform. However, the Redigo's styling is different from that of its sibling. While the Kwid features an aggressive crossover-like styling with cues from the Duster, the Datsun is styled to be an urban and slick hatchback.

re: The Datsun Redi-Go Hatchback

Until or unless one is fed up on the waiting period on Kwid and one is bored of the looks of Alto/Eon and are in the market for something fresh, something which looks good, then they may go ahead and bring redi go to their home. Redi go is decent in looks but with the onslaught of the firebrand Kwid to the segment it has become extremely difficult for the new entrant to gain some market share without any wow factor.

However some of things which I can draw from the car
* Car width is less when compared to the other cars in the segment.
* Power window buttons are placed next to gear lever.
* Brezza has got a competitor when it comes to the length of the antenna.
* In some angles it looks like big brother of E2O.
* Single wiper and single washer has become the mantra for keeping the cost low.

Overall its a nice looking car and I am sure many female counterparts would love the design. I feel that AMT as an option would make the deal much sweeter and its game on for marketing folks out their in Datsun.

I don't think so. But it is subjective.

Didn't help the Nano, did it? I doubt if only low prices can help its cause.

At those numbers, it would be safe to call it a dud.

I don't thin DRL alone will do anyhting. And I think that they look a bit out of place in its positioning with that hollow black space behind it. Also, I won't be surprised to see them as an optional add-on.

re: The Datsun Redi-Go Hatchback

Dear Fellow BHPians, I would like to share my few observations.
  • A very smart and futuristic design by Datsun, IMHO.
  • Build quality looks decent, unlike flimsy build quality of Datsun Go(no offence to any Datsun Go owners on the forum).
  • DRL's is a first in segment.
  • The front pretty much resembles to the Mahindra e2o.
  • No bottle holder in the front door pads.
  • No intermittent wiper function(The Datsun Go and Go+ have intelligent wiping system).

Alas! We have:-
  • Closed glove box lid.
  • Proper handbrake positioning.
  • Proper OE audio setup.
  • New control stalks.(Right from Nissan's luxury Sedan Teana to Datsun Go they all have have similarly designed control stalks).
  • Driver & Co-driver power window switches placed together, increased convenience for opening co driver side window from the driver's side.(The Datsun Go & Go+ have separate power window switches for driver and co-driver, very inconvenient for the driver to operate the co driver window and vice-versa).

Will click good numbers if priced competitively. I wish Datsun all the success with the Redi-Go.

Regards,
Car's Paradise

Few things I liked about this car are;
1. Good and decent looking exteriors. IMO Datsun cars are good looking in general.
2. Good stance and road presence.
3. Proper hand brake system and addition of OEM audio system.
4. Steering wheel looks chunky and well designed.

Cons;
1.Interiors looks dull, plain & nothing exciting or distinctive compared to competition.
2. No bottle holders in front door pocket, a glaring miss.
3. Oddly designed AC vents and it's layout.

I agree the intention of pricing it lower than Kwid and other competitors. But how less they can price it, that matters. Say if the difference is just below 20K between Kwid & RediGo, I believe this segment customers will prefer Kwid.
So if they can't price it low enough, Datsun should have at least made it unique inside out and exciting.

And can anyone advice me on the below question;

Will these low cost cars comes under the crash test regulations? If yes, and since it will hopefully come into existence by 2017, are these car components homologated already for it?

re: The Datsun Redi-Go Hatchback

First thing that I see in the pictures is that the front view is a vertical rectangle.
Cars whose front view fit in a horizontal rectangle always look better. Probably they should have reduced the height a little bit.

After that, when I slowly look into the details, I quite like the futuristic styling
Looks like a big brother of E2O. May also be because most of the pictures in various websites are in the similar shade of E2O's green.
So its a decent job with the styling.

Personally I would've liked the front grill to be a little smaller. the space below is logo is more and on top is less.
If they had reduced that much at the bottom, so that the logo was at the centre, it would've been better IMO

Going to the interiors, plastics looks very very cheap. Probably a darker shade would've masked the cheap-feel.
But I know they would've gone for a lighter shade to give an airy feeling to the cabin.

They have addressed many things that were not quite good in the GO- Handbrakes, ICE etc... Good job here by Datsun

Apart from that, I think it would've been better if Datsun would've dropped that GO from the name.
It is not that the GO has a very good perception to hold on to it. A simple "Ready" would've been good IMO

The only competition to this car for me is the Nano. The Cutie from Tata will sell a little less and that's it. So Redi-go will not create any ripples IMO.
