Re: August 2015 : Indian Car Sales Figures & Analysis

Mercedes are creaming the market but Audi's saving grace are the SUV's. E class numbers are high but maybe these are cars designated for the African summit. Am surprised with the Q7 numbers.

BMW are bleeding, they are spending more on Sachin than on sales

I just hope the Kwid saves Renault. The Lodgy price might need a hair cut. Only problem is that Renault is coming out as cheap car manufacturer.

VW are doing a good job on product maintenance and understanding product placement. They have not got the volumes but are performing more consistently.

Skoda need a small car for more volume. The Superb is doing well for an outgoing model.

Toyota are having a taxi ing time

It is unbelievable that an i20 that has such a tepid petrol engine, a powerful diesel but with poor drivability (times taken to move from 20-80 in 3rd gear and 40-100 in 4th gear are miserable compared to a Honda Jazz) trumps the Jazz purely based on looks. Being a great looker is undoubtedly the top if not one of the top 3 requirements to be able to sell well in the Indian markets. Until and unless you have a Shah Rukh Khan to plump for a Santro the way he did in the late 90s!
Do you really think that a few seconds difference in performance should be the main reason to buy a car? Do you think people roam around with a stopwatch in their hands? Imagine a person driving a car in a city with a stopwatch in one of his hands all the time measuring 20-30, 40-80, etc in different gears! Do you think the i20 sells more than the Jazz just because of its looks? Have you heard something about refinement, build quality, value for money? Coming to the brand, there was a time when people used to admire Sony & Honda, not anymore. Nowadays its Samsung & Hyundai boss.
The Dzire is one of bestsellers which is not exactly good looking and Shah rukh khan doesn't advertise it either.

Re: August 2015 : Indian Car Sales Figures & Analysis

I am checking the monthly sales thread after a loong time and my jaws dropped to see that antique box called Wagon R is still selling close to 15000 copies per month!. We Indians are sure crazy about Maruti.

Creta and Aspire made a great start. Interesting to see the Ertiga sales dipping. May be people are leaning more towards the compact SUVs now. I would expect Creta to continue on similar numbers for another 3-4 months until Hyundai deliver all the bookings. Later it might settle down to 4k. Aspire might settle down to 2.5-3k in next month or 2 which might be the case for S-cross.

Interesting to see how Creta (and to an extent SCross) is eating up Ecosport, Duster and Terrano volumes. XUV/Scorpio volumes are static indicating VFM mindset

Re: August 2015 : Indian Car Sales Figures & Analysis

I've mentioned this earlier as well. Honda is taking a downward trend, primarily due to its India-centric customized products. Bring back the Honda that entered India and with the current market, the company will sell far more numbers.

Hyundai is working, because well, they know the market very well. Hyundai gives you what you want, with something extra. Hence the faith of the public. The Honda vs Hyundai debate will rage on forever, but the numbers always tell you the winner.

Good for TATA. They deserve slightly better. If only.

Mango people (Aam aadmi) with a lot of money will find Ertiga more VFM than S-Cross. S-Cross is offered with a superior engine, but to carry along old parents, it isn't useful right? Nexa will avoid all these!
True. However look at this in reverse as well. How many Maruti customers might have gone over and looked at the higher end offerings and sprung for them? Now many might never see them as they might not bother going to Nexa showrooms. Havings said that, most automakers have built their seperate luxury brands like Lexus for Toyota, Acura for Honda and so on.

Re: August 2015 : Indian Car Sales Figures & Analysis

Hyundai sells 40k odd pieces on back of Creta's 7k+ sales. What I find interesting though, is they touched similar figures (+/- 1k) around Mar/Apr/May even without it. While Creta's steadily increased, i20, Verna and Xcent numbers have dropped. Maybe they are now producing less of these. Most severe drop seen on Verna.

Next few months will give a better picture as to where will Creta eventually settle.

I used to be equally astonished until... I met my father-in-law. We sent him my wife's old WagonR. It was the CNG version. He loved driving it because it was airy, tall, had a easy steering and was slow enough to not intimidate him.

Two years, he babied it and cared for it. When he finally decided to change cars, guess what he bought. Another WagonR!

Back to topic, the Creta seems to have had a rocket-launch and I am sure potential customers looking at a MUV (Ertiga, Mobilio etc.) and the S-Cross are also looking at the Creta even though they are different.

The best part is the next six months where the Alto may be tested by the Kwid.

Re: August 2015 : Indian Car Sales Figures & Analysis

Competition seems to be hotting up in the compact sedan segment, as Aspire arrives with a bang, moving straight to the 2nd spot. It will be interesting to see Aspire's figures in the coming months. Dzire still remains the undisputed champion here, with others like Amaze, Xcent and Zest nowhere close to it, as far as numbers are concerned.

Still haven't understood why the X5 isn't selling much. It's such a good car.

Would love to see a break up of performance cars in the premium segment, from next month if possible. Need to see how well the M's, RS's and AMG's are selling.

Verna is crushed by competition. Hyundai does not care about it enough i reckon. Cruze needs an update or does it have an update in North America atleast ! Jazz has started to decline after the initial hype. Linea is dead ! Fluence is still on the menu !

Re: August 2015 : Indian Car Sales Figures & Analysis

Fantastic thread with the premium cars as well. Rated 5stars.

Creta is enjoying phenomenal success, clearly Scorpio & Duster are losing quite fast to the Perfect SUV. Further discounts on the duster has not taken things up.

the beauty of positioning is such, the XUV 500 is unaffected and so it Creta. Perfect marketing and two very competent products.

Jazz taking a dip and honda overall taking a dip ahead of festive season could be a concern. The discounts on Amaze and Brio must spur something up soon.

sad for Tata that Bolt and Zest dont make into the Top 20 any more. In the frenzy of the festivities, the launch of the Kite might just be just another launch and may even be ignored by buyers. Wish all the luck to tata team.

Congrats to Suzuki team to successfully reaching the 8000 mark for celerio consistently. Clever marketing and good positioning of AMT with urban commuters clicked and revived the dead A-star in a new Avatar. They are inching towards the magical 50% mark.

Re: August 2015 : Indian Car Sales Figures & Analysis

Tavera is GMs best seller. Imagine that! Nothing is working for them.

Creta is the new king! All the compact SUVs are threatened, and how!

Lets wait and watch if the hardcore-softroader Duster can hold up against the softcore-softroader Creta!

Not just Verna/Vento, Creta seems to be eating lunch from the holy Honda City's plate as well? Ours is a complicated, cross-segment-hopping market for sure!
