Re: Government of India to get 55 Mercedes E-Class cars on lease

Mercedes loaning cars to Government of India-img20151023wa0003.jpg
This was forwarded to me but I'm not sure that these are related to this since they've just placed an order. Anyway, what a magnificent way to blow tax money!

You've got some good options at half the price. Maybe a Camry hybrid or Superb?
Showing off to foreigners wouldn't be my priority if my country had more poor people than anywhere else in the world.

Foreign delegates. Camry or Superb won't do. Executive class vehicles are required no matter what it costs.

If this turns out to be cheaper than owning them, I would be happy if Mercs and the Govt. get into a lease agreement for the future.

Re: Mercedes loaning cars to Government of India

Diplomacy is highly related to how you make the other person feel special. Making them comfortable, throwing loads of luxuries is always a part of it. Poor nation or rich nation you cannot avoid it. Long term gains by hosting such events successfully will dwarf the amount spent on these cars.

India desperately needs to make inroads into Africa. Huge potential exists for India - Africa relations in terms of exchange of ores, crude oil, UN diplomacy, pharmaceuticals etc.

Good that the government is doing something at least in case of diplomacy. Being active, aggressive is the key these days.

Now Toyota Loaning 55 Cars

Is it just a coincidence or Government wants some more cars for support staff of visiting dignitaries

Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) on Saturday said that it would provide nearly 55 Camry hybrid green cars for transporting dignitaries during the third India Africa Forum Summit (IAFS) Oct 26-29 that is likely to see heads of state and government from most of the continent's 54 countries attending.
