Absolutely right! Recent case in point: Ecosport. It's not a coincidence that Titanium+ 1.0, Titanium AT and Titanium Diesel all cost exactly 9.99L ex-showroom in Bangalore (for metallic shades).

re: A Close Look: Fiat Punto Abarth. EDIT: Now launched at Rs. 9.95 lakhs!

Overdrive is out with a comparo already!

http://overdrive.in/reviews/comparo-...-figo-1-5-dct/

The claim that the Figo 1.5 AT is not a driver's hatch, the Punto Abarth is the other extreme of high performance, while the Polo GT TSi offers the most versatility between speed, luxury and efficiency.

Quote:
This is where it counts, where the Abarth Punto should absolutely demolish the competition. There’s no doubt about the firepower under the hood – build some revs, dump the clutch and floor it in first gear to feel the fury of the 1.4-litre turbocharged motor. 145PS and 212Nm turn the 195 section front Apollo Alnacs, a tyre that works very well in the Polo into a spinning, smoking mass of uselessness. There’s massive wheelspin in first and second gear and an equal amount of aggressive torque steer to deal with. Yup, this engine packs a really solid punch. Equally impressive is how the power is delivered. Of course, there’s lag below 2000rpm but the engine still produces usable drive from just over idle, enough for city driving. Power builds smoothly, getting very strong above 4,000rpm and tapering off just before the 6,500rpm redline. In terms of sheer accelerative force there’s no other ‘Indian’ car like it, perhaps the Octavia/Laura RS but they felt large and fast. The Punto simply feels fast.

re: A Close Look: Fiat Punto Abarth. EDIT: Now launched at Rs. 9.95 lakhs!

Happy Fiat has kept the pricing below 10L. The whole package (read power, breaks, safety, handling+that grin on face) is good enough to justify such price.
If I was in market for a new car Abarth Punto would be the top contender.

re: A Close Look: Fiat Punto Abarth. EDIT: Now launched at Rs. 9.95 lakhs!

I am compiling the list of few things missing on the Abarth Punto for the help of the critics so they may be spared of liitle hard work.

Sunroof
Auto-folding Mirrors
A/T
AVN
Audiophile grade Music System
Mileage (as compared to Figo)
Lightweight
Projector Head Lamps
No discount right at the launch

The following goodies are nice to have but won't be useful much as they can't get appreciation from their family, friends and colleagues

All-4 disc brakes
some BHP and Torque numbers
Some technical changes in engine which shouldn't be costly and if they are, who cares
Colourful pedals
Some Makda type sticker job (which is not as good looking as Audi's logo)
Alloy wheels that look 'slightly' better but hey while we don't complain for No.1 manufacturer's hideous alloys why should we bothered about others, it doesn't really matter

Few are in 'serious' Catch-22 situation, they "LOVE" hot hatches but want others to pay through their wallet while secretly praying that others actually doesn't so that they can demand huge discounts so as to make Fiat pay for their mistake of daring to launch a hot-hatch and to subsidize their running costs later sometime.

No one would bother about sticker jobs or rather lack of it on GT, maintenance costs of GT, resale value of GT and above all the snobbish attitude of VW and its dealers.

End of Rant !

If am not mistaken, he meant the spelling. It is supposed be 'disc'.

re: A Close Look: Fiat Punto Abarth. EDIT: Now launched at Rs. 9.95 lakhs!

Whatever we crib about Fiat and VW, they seem to be the only 2 companies, that is offering the enthusiasts some choice. Great effort with the Abarth.
Its a territory not many manufacturers will cross into. Love to see a Mugen tuned Jazz and N brand Hyundai i20 in the future.

Has the overall quality of the plastics been improved in the Abarth? That was my biggest grouse when I was considering the Punto/Linea.

A lot of work to be done if it must be a audiophile grade and a bare minimum one lac increase in cost. Personally; I just want a nice sounding car stereo.

On this note, does anyone know what type of turbo charger is used on a T Jet motor? Variable of Fixed? It feels like a fixed geometry turbo.

The VW GT is technically a superior car in every way. I am also sure VW service is better and the car will offer better resale, way higher than a Fiat/Abarth.

Seeing the way you are pumped up, hope the Abarth will be in your garage soon.

Edit: Could you let me know what's your current ride? Or the previous ones too??

re: A Close Look: Fiat Punto Abarth. EDIT: Now launched at Rs. 9.95 lakhs!

I doubt that would find many takers.

I would rather prefer 1.6 L version of MultiJet which is launched in S-Cross.

I would suggest to try and do a DIY job to the existing T-Jet by putting official Abarth badges and stickers whenever they are available, if someone is really keen and the Tuner box are also available and few people have already done the re-tuning.

Who knows I myself would end up doing Abarth stickering on my T-Jet one day.

re: A Close Look: Fiat Punto Abarth. EDIT: Now launched at Rs. 9.95 lakhs!

So, Fiat added about 2.6L for Punto Evo, and about 2.5L for Avventura. For most places, the price should come around 12L - 12.5L OTR for both these.
A month ago, I had mentioned that they probably would add about 1L-1.5L for the additional 30 horses, and another 1L-1.5L for the Abarth badging and Decals, when the discussion was about the suspected Abarth Linea. So, the difference approximately matches
What is sure is that, this is just sticker price, and will increase in another few months. It might increase immediately after the festive season also.
To satisfy enthusiasts desire: Will they lend this turbocharged 1.4L T-jet engine with the same 140 hp to Maruti, so that they can put it in the Swift? Fiat has been selling great engines at the cost of their own car sales. So I guess it does not matter anyway. A Swift with this heart, probably at 9L OTR, will fetch a lot more buyers for this engine, and add to the popularity of Fiat engines!
