Re: Spotted! VW Polo GTI with 1.8L TSI engine

As per the article in Carwale, the Polo GTI will be launched in March 2016!

Quote:
Those waiting for the Volkswagen Polo GTI in India will have to hold on for a little longer. Our sources confirm that the 177bhp hot hatch will be launched in India only in the 11th or 12th week of the 2016 calendar year.

The Polo GTI will be powered by the 1.8-litre turbocharged TSI petrol engine producing 177bhp and 250Nm of torque. This is the same engine that is currently used in the Skoda Octavia and the Audi A3. While globally the car is available with the option of both the manual and automatic transmissions, we in India will only get the seven-speed DSGP automatic powering the front wheels.

There are a lot of changes to the Polo GTI compared to the standard hatchback. The chassis of the GTI will be imported, along with the suspension from the global car. The body, compared to the one made in India, is a lot stronger and offers better rigidity to handle all the extra power. The company is already importing the same drivetrain for Audi and Skoda, and that will later be plonked under the hood. Only the interior and the cosmetic components of the car will be made in India.

Volkswagen Polo GTI will be classified as a CKD and the prices are expected to be around Rs 14 lakh. Volkswagen has big plans for the next few months, the Beetle will be launched in the next few weeks while the new compact sedan will debut at the 2016 Auto Expo.

Re: Spotted! VW Polo GTI with 1.8L TSI engine

Its simple maths, if VW actually wants to sell this thing they'll price it around 15 lakhs. And if they just want to divert sales to Octy AT or bring this as a niche limited production model the price will be anything from 18-21 lakhs.

Honestly there is no doubt in my mind as to why would anyone choose a Polo over a Octy AT for the same price. If however it was a Golf (which is frankly not happening anytime in the near future) the story would've been different.

The Golf TSI that was brought to India for testing was probably just for parts testing or somthing of that sort. Its not coming, lets face the facts here. (I always apply my reverse psychology in the off chance that it might get launched ;-) )

Re: Spotted! VW Polo GTI with 1.8L TSI engine

Super excited. I don't have the financial ability to buy such an expensive car, but I will get lot of authentic accessories to be fitted for my GT TSI.

So all those trying for a GTI steering wheel (paddle shifters) to be installed in our baby GT TSI, please wait till March to procure it locally..

Hope they price the accessories sensibly and but a sudden doubt, will they provide the accessories to non - GTI owners also?

its almost a dream to expect that petrol_power from VW India.

With VW A.S.S failing to stock up the necessary OEM replacement parts in their inventory and their unnecessary snob values, IMO GTI spares would be a challenge in itself, let alone accessories!!

The nice chaps at VW Palace Cross have outright refused to give me certain parts I'd sought for, in spite of repeated requests and begging.

I wanted the Highline's headlight switch but NO.

I also wanted the exterior gloss black B-Pillar but NO.

So don't expect them to go the extra mile.

Hyundai dealers were ready to give me their updated projector Headlamps when I enquired about whether it is possible to upgrade to projectors from my normal halogen headlamp (In 2014, Hyundai launched an updated Verna by putting projectors and DRL inside the same old headlamp cluster). Though I didn't follow up as the curiosity died in a day's time. End of day they gain only right, what do they lose?

Why Volkswagen, why....

Looks like they don't want to let die the enthusiasms of VW car owners so make their efforts tougher by not providing parts and accessories easily at their authorized dealerships. When something is obtained after lot of hard efforts, it becomes priceless. This maybe one of the secret behind haivng such a huge active community of VW car enthusiast all over the world who have endless passion of modding and tinkering their cars.

The hottest hatch - VW's GTI, to be showcased at Auto Expo 2016. Expected to go on sale in mid 2016.

Spotted! VW Polo GTI with 1.8L TSI engine-1.jpg

Quote:
Powered by a 189bhp 1.8-litre TSI petrol engine, the car is capable of cracking the 0-100kph sprint in under 7 seconds which would make it the fastest hatchback in the country. Globally the Polo GTI is sold a six-speed manual or a seven-speed DSG gearbox but going by the trend, it's likely that India will get the automatic version.

Woah volkman10 what a scoop bro

I am not one of those "Lucky" ones to be in the market by the launch time, but any which way one looks at this,

0-100 in under 7 seconds is

I only hope VW surprises everybody and offers:

- A manual GB instead of the DSG

- Considering the first point, GTI retails at 15 lakhs ex showroom

- Tries the CKD route instead of the CBU, cutting the cost to 'Believable' levels

- Most importantly, trains the after sales support staff exclusively to handle this hot hatch

Re: Spotted! VW Polo GTI with 1.8L TSI engine

The CBU option is simply not viable, even if VW runs a limited production run and tries to make a halo car out of it.

But take a 15l price, 190bhp engine, 7-speed DSG, all wheel disc brakes and the Polo's mature chassis and you have a car that is incredibly desirable! Full marks to VW if they go through with it.

Re: Spotted! VW Polo GTI with 1.8L TSI engine

Volkswagen seem to be evaluating the engines for this hot hatch, taking account of cost considerations - 1.8 TSI /1.4 TSI ?

Quote:
Volkswagen is currently evaluating both engines for our market and will soon take a call as to which will be a more viable option for India.

I have a very strong feeling VW may just plonk the 1.4 TSI on the Indian Polo GTI.

The reasons:

- Help them position this car against the Punto Abarth by saving loads of percentage on tax.

- Safer bet vis-a-vis 1.8 TSI, if this hot hatch is offered with a DSG gearbox.

- Makes a logical sense to price this somewhere in between a Hightine Vento & Trendline Jetta, only if it gets a 1.4 TSI motor.

- Lastly, this engine can be plonked into the Vento sometime in the near future, to bring it up to Ciaz, City & Verna displacement numbers.

EDIT

Yes bro, what I really meant was that VW may launch the Polo GTI with 1.4 TSI in India, as it is already available with our neighbour now.

Re: Spotted! VW Polo GTI with 1.8L TSI engine

Oh no! I was really hoping for the 1.8 to be launched. Then again it does make sense to make the baby steps first, the 1.4 will definitely give them a better market reception considering it will be priced much lower than the 1.8.
