Inflation:
When I bought my Yeti 5 years back, it was nearly 22.5 on Road though I paid 19.5 after pushing them hard on negotiation and buying a 6 month old vehicle which was brought down for me from Aurangabad from their stockyard. Now it is nearly 30 on Road.

Ignis Availability:
Im amazed they haven't seen fit to provide enough cars to all their Next Showrooms in time for the launch.

Lower Segment:
Yes I understand this. However, the overall need state determines the car one buys. The I 20 is a good car and has tons of features etc. It is quite spacious too.
But the gutless wheezy petrol engine is absolutely irritating beyond a point.
The Ignis (if available in Top Spec Alpha Petrol with AMT) can become a perfect choice for us because of all those considerations earlier mentioned in my previous post and specifically because of the better engine, better power to weight ratio and of course, the AMT.

I saw the Ignis in flesh. It was parked outside Nexa showroom on Baner road. I was on my weekend cycle ride going back home.

From a distance, it looks very much like a wagon R from the side and white color just made it look even more Wagon R ish.

From the front it has a hint of Tata 407 ☺️
Ok i was on my bike so excuse me for the quirky comparisons.

With mainstream media reporting such things for the Ignis, no wonder people are thronging the showrooms!

On road road price in kerala. With additional accessories it will be close to Baleno price

BANGALORE NEXA SHOWROOM MAHADEVPURA UPDATE
So the showroom manager calls me at 3:30pm and says we have display cars available.
I got there by 3:45 and there was a huge cake cutting ceremony. Everybody (300 odd people) gets cake and Tropicana.
Now coming to car itself,
I go there with a very open mind assuming it won't be any bigger than the Kwid.
And I look at the car (A zeta variant) , wow. It's not as small as I thought. "Not bad" I tell myself. Let's get inside.
My observations go as follows
1. I get inside and I expected a Tin Can thud, but hear something solid. Not very solid, but solid.
2. The steering wheel is definetely miles ahead of any Maruti I've seen before.
3. Tactile feedback on the buttons are damn good.
4. Plastic quality on dashboard is one of the best I've seen on a Maruti this side of an S-cross
5. Mirrors were quite big (bigger than the Figo I test drove in the morning)
6. Seats very comfortable
7. Door handles - nice to hold.
8. White interiors - Blehhhh. Yuck.
9. ICE unit - not bad, looks yuck.
10. Rear seat space - plenty

Exterior observations:
1. Paint quality - very very good.
2. Dual shade roof is actually metallic pearlescent paint and not a wrap like I assumed.
3. Wheel arches make the car look wide.
4. Rear windshield - bigger than the Figo I drove this morning.
5. 15" Bridgestone Tyres look good
6. Alloy wheels - HOT HOT HOT.
7. Blue and White color reminds me of the Mini Cooper so much and I loved it.


All in all- car well made. Exceeded my expectations. Only a test drive will tell whether it's worth keeping that booking or just cancel and move on.

Seems like another SCross / Ritz in the making, though this may sell better.

Some don't like their looks, some don't like their pricing; but once come to know about the build and space inside compared to other Marutis, they start to like it.

A minimum of 6-7K units is what I expect per month. Though it comes with a higher price tag, the potential is high:

An upgrade for the Wagon-R in the same compact avatar (1.2L K-series itself is good enough over the 1.0L anemic).
Old people, who bought 2 or 3 WagonRs and are tired of seeing it again.
People upgrading from Altos may jump to this segment instead of Wagon-R.
First time buyers looking for the SUV'ish looks in a compact avatar may buy it.
People may look it as a second car for their city use...

The reason why I didn't go for the Swift despite it being everything I needed, was it's below par build quality. As it looks like, they have fixed it with the Ignis. I would want Maruti to launch the new Swift ASAP now, as it would also have better build quality following the Ignis. But then with these prices, Ignis is not going to sell in Maruti standard numbers, this could make them think into pricing the new Swift more competitively, cutting costs, resulting in below par build quality again.

NEXA sales advisors totally dont know what they speak, for the so called Premium Experience. 2 Points to be highligted during ignis showroom visit

1. After seeing the car, i summed it up saying... very good car from maruti. And the advisor says, sir this car is not from maruti. Its from Suzuki. there is No connection with maruti sir.


2. Sir , Alpha & Zeta have same features. You get better ride comfort in Alpha sir.

One Question to all BHPians, A Big One.

Is Maruti promoting the Zeta Variant ?

Because, as you all know, Most of the Variants that One sees inside Showroom as well as Test Drive vehicles will always be Top End Trims.

But Yesterday, I saw a Delta & Zeta (Judging by Different Wheels), and now all the images posted by various memebrs seem to be Zeta.

So, is Maruti facing any vendor related problems ?

Yeah. I had the same question but they cleverly said "we don't know why the Zeta models have come Sir. But we can assure you that the TD cars will be the Alpha. We always have Top ends as TD cars"

Yes, I noticed this too. Would have appreciated if it was on the right side of the steering wheel (which is currently empty).
Honestly while operating the buttons on the steering, I felt there were too many buttons on the left. I am a leftie and I find it easy but how many people would feel the same ?

Saw the IGNIS after booking it online. Didn't like it very much. 'For a Maruti' it is good quality, above Baleno below Scross as someone said above. But when you see cars from other manufacturers, it doesn't set any new standards of quality, but matches in quality.

1. Good paint quality
2. Front seats nicely sculpted
3. Good size carrying capacity
4. Interior paint hints matching external paint (why? who cares what colour is outside of the car?!)
5. Car sits too low to be called a compact SUV. You sit below like any other hatch, not walk in like Ritz.
6. Compact dimensions inside. Rear seat will seat 2.5 without getting uncomfortable. No armest.
7. The head unit in Zeta/delta looks pathetic and insulting to say the least. The head unit place is good only for a tablet, so outside screen units of Sony etc may not fit.
8. Rear seats do not fold flat, but rather at an angle.
9. Small size external mirrors.
10. A selling point is large leg room at ear. Rear leg room is more of an illusion, as the seat length is less. So visually the leg room appears vast, but it is at the cost of under thigh support.
11. Speedometer too tall - much in your face
12. Salesman was saying it has many customization options from company. But who cares when outside vendors too are capable of doing so?

Overall, it looks like a glorified WagonR than a competitor for Baleno/swift/jazz etc. It didn't seem any upgrade from my current Beat, and not even as a replacement, when a far better option in the form of Baleno is present. Maybe for a first buyer who wants to stick to Maruti for whatever reasons, or wants to have a customized car using only company provided options. The AMT is generally jerky (though haven't tested this car), so even the comfort of CVT is not there.



I didn't like what was on offer, so didn't ask for prices even, and asked for refund. So much for booking something without looking!lol:

Although the overall width of IGNIS is 1690, the shoulder room is less. For comparison, Baleno width is 1745, a difference of 55mm. But the shoulder room is much wider.

Can anyone update the exact shoulder room width? Or is there any website, which publishes shoulder room width?

More than the availability, the main reason is Festival on Saturday. Sankranti or Pongal is a big festival in Southern parts of India. It depends on how many staff are available.
