Re: The Maruti-Suzuki Ignis

Had a look at Ignis at Amar Nexa, Vadodara. They were not even aware of prices for Vadodara, but footfalls were massive.

People are quite interested in Ignis and doors did feel better than my Swift or Wagon R K10. The metal door handles feel sturdy, job well done. Ingress and Egress is better than Swift, but not as good as Wagon R.

Attached are images, my phone cam isn't that bad, but my photography is.

What I found :

1) Car feels better built than Swift, Baleno. Inclines towards S-Cross than Baleno/Swift.

2) Space. Rear is amazingly spacious. After keeping the driving position for myself, there was more than good space for me in rear seat. Kudos to Maruti for carving out such space. Rear seat height means thigh support is reasonably good. Rear Head restraints were comfy for me.

Max Min Legroom :

3) Glovebox felt better built than my Swift.

4) ORVM are smaller than my Swift. My hand was only thing available I could compare it with.

Ignis :

Swift :

The Maruti-Suzuki Ignis-20170113_182239.jpg

5) Boot is much bigger than Swift and well shaped. Obviouly at 260 Ltr., it larger than Swift, but it increases boot utility my a good margin.

The Maruti-Suzuki Ignis-20170113_181319.jpg

6) A lot of space in Engine bay. Surprising considering its smaller than Swift. A larger unit can easily fit into it. Also, a thorough underbody protection could be welcome.

The Maruti-Suzuki Ignis-20170113_181124.jpg

7) Front seats are comfy for me. Note that I am about 5'10", 93kg person with broad shoulders.

8) Pedals are typically Maruti but my left leg felt better in Ignis than Swift.

9) Front visibility is quite good, no the hood isnt' exactly as visible as lets say it is in Duster or Vitara Brezza, but felt much better than my Swift.

10) Rear bumper is almost useless due to it being not so protruding. Can understand this in a car like Aspire/Dzire/compact sedans, but not in this segment.

Attachment 1594946

11) Cabin felt airy, specially after Swift.

For airy cabin, Wagon R is better, followed by Ignis, Baleno and then Swift amongst the four cars.

12) Air Vents are pretty small for the cabin. Was shocked with such small vents, and their placement is such that driver's left hand would be chilled from cold air. Same issue as in Wagon R. But on the plus side, ICE placement at that height is convenient. I prefer Wagon R's ICE placement than my Swift's.

Re: The Maruti-Suzuki Ignis

Here is how the Maruti-Suzuki Ignis stacks up, price-wise, against it's own cousins, in-segment rivals, and also rivals from a segment above.

And these are the respective VFM charts (higher placement = better, lower placement = costlier):

All prices, ex-showroom Delhi, and are taken from the respective car companies' official websites.

Volkswagen Polo's prices have been taken from Carwale.

Re: The Maruti-Suzuki Ignis

I am a millennial and I can surely say this car's pricing makes no sense at all, especially when you bring the competition in picture. Even if I were to agree that millennials have better purchasing power and get loans easily etc, I dont see any aspirational value in this Maruti Suzuki car. What makes Maruti Suzuki think that a millennial with a fat wallet will not buy a Polo GT and buy an Ignis instead ? or an i20 or Baleno which comes pretty close.

My guess is the automatic versions will sell more and this car will primarily be a second car for running errands. (Compete with Honda Brio)

Sorry Nexa, Millennials are all tech-savvy and they know very well where they are putting their money. Be prepared with those refund cheques like you did with S-Cross.

My need exactly.

As for the "millennial" stuff, it appears to be the work of Maruti's marketing department. Looks like Maruti executives have been coached to parrot the term repeatedly.

That gap in engine bay might be of the SHVS unit that was ripped off in the Indian variants.

Re: The Maruti-Suzuki Ignis

The pricing clearly shows that maruti has become overoptimistic that it can sell any car it puts out IMO the ignis appears to be a clear miss. The baleno clearly stands vfm in the lineup of nexa.

Re: The Maruti-Suzuki Ignis

Dear MSIL,

I felt ashamed not to be one your 'millennials' and hence you won't expect me to walk in Nexa showroom for Ignis either.

Fun apart, I was looking for this car as an ideal upgrade from my Wagon-R and now I might have to turn somewhere else (probably outside MSIL stable itself).

Waiting for the Grand-i10 facelift desperately.

Re: The Maruti-Suzuki Ignis

Dear folks,

I felt the pricing of the base petrol variant was a good start. It was the later variants that look over-priced. Diesel variants though look more pricey than their petrol counterparts.

I would treat the Ignis like a Nexa's WagonR / Celerio.

Swift : Baleno :: WagonR/Celerio : Ignis

Yes, the Ignis comes with bigger engines than the WagonR / Celerio. So that's the premium offered, that's why it's NEXA ain't it?
  • Variant to variant if they could have priced it to hover about 45-60K above WagonR / Celerio, the deals would have been sweet!
  • Also, a NEXA doing an AMT, when a CVT is what NEXA should command, doesn't make it premium at all!
Thanks,
C_

Re: The Maruti-Suzuki Ignis

I don't mind the premium they're charging if this happens to be Maruti Suzuki's first product this side of 10 lakhs to score 4 stars or more in the crash tests this year. Or is expecting the MS representatives to talk more of chassis integrity too much expectations from my side?

Sorry to pile on to your disappointment. Euro NCAP rates it 3 stars for the airbag version and 5 stars for the version with the Camera assisted braking (They call it Dual Camera Brake Support Version). Or did i miss your being sarcastic?

Re: The Maruti-Suzuki Ignis

Here is what I could gather from Carwale.com about Bangalore On Road Pricing:

1. Petrol MT Sigma : 564,216
2. Petrol MT Delta : 644,595 / Delta AT : 712,090
3. Petrol Zeta MT : 713,317 / Zeta AT : 780,813
4. Petrol Alpha MT : 828,672

I think the gap between the Sigma and next one is way too high and the two Automatics both cross 7L OTR Bangalore.

I will Test Drive the car out of curiosity but I doubt if I will be convinced to spend so much money on a second car with automatic being a mandatory feature that I am looking for....I guess I am going to go back to evaluating the Kwid Easy-R and Celerio AMT...

crazy isn't it ? The car will probably still do well. Off late, the used car market is making far more sense to me. I'd rather shop in the used car market than pay millennial pricing

Re: The Maruti-Suzuki Ignis

Probably we are getting the term 'introductory prices' wrong. Seems Maruti's way of saying that these are some random numbers put up just for the launch. Will set them right later once market conveys the exact worth of the product.

For the Adidas logo may be.

Sad to see the prices. Maruti hasn't learnt from their mistake - S-Cross.

They have made a big mess
