Maruti Suzuki targets Mahindra's KUV1OO , likely to undercut on pricing, and an added advantage of having the 'AT' variant too.
Rumored now to have an AMT in both petrol and diesel versions at launch .
Quote:
the upcoming Ignis from Maruti will have an AMT option and not a CVT as it was previously thought to be. What is interesting is that both the petrol and diesel will get the AMT gearbox. Both the engines and gearbox are not new, being used in many other current Maruti cars. The Ignis AMT in petrol would get a 1.2 motor while the diesel AMT would get the ever popular 1.3 diesel. The diesel AMT would be the same one as in the Dzire AMT.

Maruti Suzuki delays the launch of its Mini Crossover! Likely to launch in
Q1 2017.
Huge backlog of its new launches the Baleno and Vitara Brezza and the constraint in production capacity are the reason for the delayed launch of Ignis.
Ignis volumes projected are 50-80k units/year and adding such incremental volumes to the already' near over capacity' production would put pressure in terms of waiting periods for customers and production schedules for vendors.
Quote:
Any new product, before launching, goes through a series of trial production. With waiting (Vitara Brezza and Baleno) customers, it was decided that instead of blocking capacity ahead of the festive season towards trial of Ignis, the company would rather produce more of the in-demand products and reduce their waiting period

Good call I must say. Unless they can meet the production requirements they should not launch it. No point in increasing the waiting times further for all its other hot selling products.
What is interesting is in a market where big car giants like Chevrolet are re-thinking to invest their money and many others are struggling to move cars from their showrooms, here is a car company that is delaying its product launch since they cannot match the demand. Kudos to MSIL for achieving such a phenomenal connect with the Indian car buyer.
Maruti must be waiting for Gujarat Plant to be operational, before launching IGNIS.

Europe specific updates:
"Suzuki Ignis in European spec will be revealed at the Paris motor show; SUV-esque city car is slightly different to its Japanese counterpart."
"...the European-spec car will be longer than its Japanese counterpart, which adheres to Japan’s strict 3.6m guidelines. The UK car will be 10-15cm longer, although the floorplan will be unchanged. Revised bumper designs will likely swallow up the added length, according to a source at Suzuki."
"The Ignis’s somewhat niche appeal means that rivals are thin on the ground."
In India, it should appeal to people currently looking for Wagon-R and Ritz, IMO. Tall enough for easy ingress and egress and compact enough for city uses.
Will Maruti continue Ritz's production? Yet to be seen. A Celerio 1.3 DDiS should be positioned as a replacement for yellow board Ritz, IMO. They usually stop cars selling less than 3-4K per month (except Gypsy :) )
But how I wish if it is available in AWD in base variants as well, and the rear was made bit more easy-to-eye.
Suzuki unveils the AMT version of Ignis at the Indonesia Auto fair, likely to debut in India too.

NDTV Auto confirms that
Maruti-Suzuki will be launching the Ignis during the festive season ahead, as per the original launch schedule.
Quote:
As opposed to ongoing rumours about the Maruti Suzuki Ignis' launch being postponed to 2017, the Indo-Japanese carmaker has told us that it will go ahead with the launch of the car this year itself. Slated for a festive season launch, the all-new Ignis will be Maruti Suzuki's first sub-4 metre crossover in the Indian market.
As for the backlog that Maruti has of its current crowd favourites like Vitara Brezza and Beleno, the carmaker has claimed that it is working on ramping up the production in its two plants in Manesar and Gurugram. Moreover, once the upcoming Suzuki plant in Gujarat is active, the production of Ignis might even be shifted there for a more channelized and timely production.

Maruti Suzuki Ignis launch around Diwali.
To take on Mahindra's KUV1OO. Speculated to have a sticker price of 5 Lakhs, with range topping at 7 lakhs.
The car will be launched with a 1.0 L Boosterjet petrol engine, which will develop about 110 hp and will be paired to a 5-speed manual transmission. Diesel powertrain and launch is not yet known yet , but can expect the Ignis diesel to be powered by the familiar 1.3 L DDiS engine along with the option of an automated manual transmission (AMT).
Quote:
On the exterior, the Ignis has LED daytime running lamps (DRLs), high ground-clearance, flared wheel arches and a wide C-pillar. At a length of 3,679 mm, the Ignis is 25 mm longer than the KUV 100 but is less wider than the KUV 100's 1,705 mm at 1,660 mm. The Ignis also sits higher than the KUV 100 at 180 mm of ground clearance compared to the KUV 100's 170 mm

Earlier news were mentioning about 1.2L Petrol engine, but here it says 1L Boosterjet! Are they confused with Baleno RS and Ignis?
Highly likely that they don't actually know which will be engines of choice. But, putting in 'some' information increases the website traffic😉
Maruti Suzuki is likely to launch the Ignis in petrol variant only. To add diesel at a later date. Launch could happen to coincidence with its European launch at the Paris auto show anytime between Oct 1- 16th 2106. More details on this by end September.

Under the hood, Maruti Suzuki Ignis will come only with the 1.0-litre BoosterJet petrol engine, whereas the diesel could be added to the variant line up later in the timeline. Transmission options will comprise a 5-speed manual and an automatic unit.

Why are all the news websites suddenly reporting that the Ignis will come with the 1.0L Boosterjet engine? Isn't that for the Baleno RS? While it would be great if Maruti decides to plonk the 1.0L in the Ignis, I don't think that's happening considering the expected price bracket of the car :)

Coz it's highly unlikely they know what they are talking about - most such info is copied from other places and just put on the website to increase traffic.
It's unfortunate but Indian automotive websites are mostly a joke!!
Still not able to get in terms with the rear design.
They need to get rid of some awkward-looking angles, those "scattered" tail lamp sections and break the bulk of over-sized black strip.
