There you go! As usual, a watered down version of an 'existing platform' for cost savings. Like Indian customers don't already pay through their nose for pricey/over priced cars that Nissan thinks bringing the newer Platform on which Kicks is developed, cannot be afforded by us in India. Or whatever other reasons.

We pay sky high prices already. At least give us the latest and our monies' worth. When are we likely to see small SUVs go beyond the 90-105bhp power bracket, all around 6 airbags and latest platforms.

More than EcoSport, it will be targeted at S-Cross and I hope with this product Nissan will try to carve out a new niche for itself in Indian market, positioned below the Terrano. I am a bit unsure about expecting it taking position against the EcoSport.

After the launch of Renault's Captur in India, Nissan will launch its CUV, Kicks in early 2018.

Will the Indian Kicks be similar to the one in Latin America or will it again be watered down for Indian market? Either ways I expect them to place it alongside the Captur to make it a premium offering from Nissan.

Following Renault's K/Captur Nissan confirms its C/SUV Kicks for launch in 2018.

Quote:
Unlike the Terrano, which is essentially a badge-engineered Duster, the Kicks will have its own Nissan identity and, more importantly, won’t be obliged to get Renault’s nod for every small refresh or upgrade during its life cycle.

I hope Nissan have better sense than proclaiming this an 'award-winning global product' during launch.

This is indeed a great product. I've driven the automatic in the Gulf, and would buy it blind folded. Hope the pricing is in Ecosport territory!

re: The Nissan Kicks Crossover. EDIT: Launched at Rs. 9.55 lakhs

The moot question seems to whether it will have an AWD option or not. With the dizzying no of SUV launches (both C and full size) taking place, almost on a monthly basis, I fear that the distinguishing feature of an SUV is getting lost. That it must have the ability to take the rough with the smooth, to go off the beaten track without batting an eye, & not worry about getting its feet wet, so to speak!

The net result seems to be a surfeit of boulvardier prima-donnas from mfrs all catering to this mad rush - to lay one's hands on any hatch-on-steroids-and-stilts that is available off the shelf - and use it strictly for that supermarket/mall trip and the like!

re: The Nissan Kicks Crossover. EDIT: Launched at Rs. 9.55 lakhs

Kicks resemble Hyundai Creta a lot in my opinion.

I really wonder if Nissan Kicks is really launched, and sold in India - what would be the price bracket? According to Nissan Brazil the pricing starts from R$ 71990, which roughly converts to Rs. 14.3 lacs.

So Nissan Kicks will be priced on the territory of Hyundai Creta and Renault Captur. This also crosses into the XUV territory as well.

Here is what I am thinking
1. If the pricing slab is true - this will make Creta look VFM, and XUV look extremely VFM.
2. Kicks will shoot in Captur's foot, and Captur will shoot in Kick's foot. I mean - neither of them may win. But this will help the Koreans to sell more Creta and silently walk to their banks with huge kitties.
3. Mahindra will try to fish more buyers with its Scorpio and XUV- especially the people who get confused and look for VFM purchase.
4. Datsun will use this hype by launching Go Cross and promote as an "affordable X over" for the masses. It will decently sell.
5. As a consolation to Renault - Duster will sell a bit more because it will look like a cheaper option than Captur.

Hmmm.. not sure if Nissan Kicks will become a blockbuster.

Nissan Kicks to be launched this year.

Jerome Saigot, MD, Nissan Motor India, said,
Quote:
We have plans on the Nissan front. It is true that as of today the product line up is a bit old. In few months you will see a new Nissan car on roads.
He is talking about Nissan's Compact Crossover Kicks which was launched abroad in 2016.

  • Will be Nissan's First Launch in 5 years.
  • It will be rivalling Creta, Captur, BRV.
  • Will be powered by same 1.6 Petrol & 1.5 Diesel as Captur. Transmission option will be a 5 Speed Manual (Petrol) & 6 Speed Manual (Diesel).
  • Will be based on same platform as Duster/Indian Captur unlike Global version which is based on more advanced V Platform.
  • Different Platforms apart, It won’t have any design and styling changes.
  • Expected to be priced between 10-15 lakhs.

What happens if someone who doesn’t know swimming tries uncharted waters? Drowning by all means. Now lets think one of twins doing the same and drowning. The natural reaction of the other one would be to learn swimming before entering water again. But looks like the boffins at Nissan India won’t learn from Renault India’s Captur failure. They will repeat the same stupidity of making an India specific Kicks, which will in all probability get a ‘Kick’ in the right place from Indians ( We may be a third world country, but not without having sense ).

And the joke of the year is that Kicks will be rivalling Captur! Rivalling in what ? Using a decade old platform?

I can't stop laughing thinking how stupid they are. And they say that "apart from the change in platform, there will be no design changes". Are they trying to say that platform is not part of the design? Another flimsy, non crash worthy contraption in the making. SAD !!

re: The Nissan Kicks Crossover. EDIT: Launched at Rs. 9.55 lakhs

Nissan should first address their service issues and general after-sales experience, only then will people even look at their products, if not nothing can help with the sales.

The Duster platform is quite adequate for India, it rides well and is reasonably reliable and enduring for the non-existent roads of India, however Nissan and its sister company Renault simply took too much time to develop a portfolio for India. The Micra was introduced in India about 10 years ago more or less and is still pretty much the same car, the facelift improved things interior wise but it wasn't enough, same for the Sunny. A brand needs to have loyal customers who'd want nothing other than a Nissan for their next purchase.. most Hyundai/VW/Maruti customers are repeat customers. Unfortunately the Nissan brand in India has nothing special going for it, they had a severely overpriced X-Trail but that was killed once Hyundai and Honda brought in their competing models.

Nissan is pretty decent as a brand, one can say easily better in quality than many of its Japanese rivals but its perceived luxury quotient is zero. There was a time Nissan sold their Teana for 19.xx lacs on-road, luxury and space wise it could beat car's twice that price range but they barely managed to clear the stock. I can only conclude by saying that there isn't much room for Nissan in India anymore, only brands that do their homework can succeed here, one needs enough service stations, sales points, marketing, product upgradations etc.

It is correct that Duster is "adequate". It is rugged and was value for money when launched. But the question is, why do they have to build another Kicks on an old platform when they already have the vehicle available in other markets? Is it cost cutting? If yes, to what extend?

Unreasonable taxation on these cars contribute to these high prices
