Re: Skoda Octavia vRS India launch delayed

Rumour: Skoda Octavia vRS coming back to India

Recent media reports claim that Skoda is planning to launch the Octavia vRS in India. The vRS badge basically denotes a high-performance version of the premium sedan offering. The earlier-gen Octavia vRS was introduced in India in 2004 as a limited edition offering, but the latest model didn’t get the vRS badge.

In the international markets, Skoda does offer the vRS trim for the new Octavia. It is powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine that churns out 217 BHP @ 4,500-6,200 rpm and 350 Nm of torque @ 1,500-4,400 rpm. This engine is capable of accelerating the car from 0-100 km/h in 6.8 seconds. Top speed is marked at 248 km/h. The European-spec Octavia vRS also gets a 2.0-litre TDI diesel engine that is rated at 182 BHP and boasts of 0-100 km/h acceleration time of 8.1 seconds. Top speed of the diesel vRS is 232 km/h. Transmission options offered include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed DSG. It remains to be seen what options Skoda India brings to the domestic market.

Cosmetically, the vRS gets various visual differences as compared to the standard Octavia. Exterior changes include a new bumper with wider air dam, a prominent vRS badge on the front grille, larger wheels and a rear spoiler. Interiors of the Octavia vRS are characterized by new bucket seats, an all-black colour theme and vRS badges placed on the headrests, steering wheel, gear knob and door sills.

Re: Skoda Octavia vRS India launch delayed

If there is a good byproduct of the NGT Delhi Big Diesel Ban, its the supreme inflow of high-end gasoline vehicles

First BMW relaunches their "i" domain, Big SUVs are looking at petrol (read Innova, M&M), and now the True LEGEND may come back.

Re: Skoda Octavia vRS India launch delayed

I drove the Octavia vRS, a couple of days in Prague. Skoda are still undecided at the moment on the final specification. I will be posting my impressions shortly.

Re: Skoda Octavia vRS India launch delayed

Though this definitely sounds good, two things dampen the excitement here...

1) The new Octavia is beyond reach for most enthusiasts who have the age and the time, but unfortunately - not the money

2) the Octavia has also grown too big now, to be a proper hot car ( I remember reading the F10 M5 review, where the size was a big let down )

Now if only Skoda made a Rapid vRS, with lowered suspension, nice looking 17 inch alloys, sporty black interiors, and a turbo charged 1.6L unit puting out 140 PS, and then priced it around 12L

Re: Skoda Octavia vRS India launch delayed

With the current octavia 1.8TSI touching 25 lakh mark on road in Mumbai, VRS version would easily touch 28 - 29 lakh mark atleast? At that point surely it would be out of reach from several enthusiast, Plus Skoda horror stories would make us think twice before opting for it, I am though very tempted to get the TSI version, 6.8 Seconds is sweet.

The TSI vRS sounds yummy but the price point may be a lot higher than 28-29 lakhs. Remember this particular 2.0TSI engine will be a fully imported one as opposed to the 'Indianised' 1.8TSI; the latter now starts at 26L in BLR at least.

I think they will bring in the vRS TSI Octavia in the form of a 'halo' car like the Polo 1.8. However, to avoid cannibalization of the 'normal' Octavia range, pricing will overlap with Superb territory. Thereby, discerning customers will get the chance to choose between a 'hot' Octavia sedan versus a bigger, more luxurious Superb sedan.

Incidentally, the diesel vRS 0-100 time is identical to the current 1.8TSI's timing. Unlikely it will ever make it to India given the same timing plus diesel!

Re: Skoda Octavia vRS India launch delayed

Skoda please remember, if you're deciding to bring the vRS to India, just bring the 2.0 TSi and don't just rebadge a 1.8 Tsi to vRS, since the vRS looses it's charm and enthusiasts won't be interested in it.

Re: Skoda Octavia vRS India launch delayed

Dont bother bringing in the vRS unless it

* runs the same state of tune as international markets. We have the fuel in metros and modern ecus would cope a lot better than a lousy detuned "indianfied" version.

* has a different lowered suspension set up, we want stance. Not a vRS looking like its holding up its gown in the rain.

* you don't ever offer the same 1.8 TSi you're flogging in everything including the new A6 !

* you provide freedom for a customer who pays 25 lakhs plus to choose whether he wants manual/dsg

* you train your tech how to service, have a better vRS service corner if need be along with the L&K's

We Indians are tired of being treated like unloved step children lol !

VRS launch confirmed for 2017. Also saw another tweet which said that Skoda will launch a 'black edition' of the Octavia and Monte Carlo edition of the rapid in 2017. The service app and warranty initiative also sound welcome.

Damn! This is good news and bad news! I am looking to buy refreshed Rapid by January but reading the news of Monte Carlo, I might have to hold back. We don't know when will that be launched exactly. Another headache for me. BTW, Monte Carlo Rapid looks too awesome.

Re: Skoda Octavia vRS India launch delayed

Well the rumours are true. Listed on NDTV yesterday.

http://auto.ndtv.com/news/skoda-octa...-india-1441712

I was in the process of choosing between the Jetta 2.0 DSG and Octavia 1.8 TSI DSG but then after coming across this, I guess I will just wait till 2017. The only issue I guess will be the price. I am sure this will touch the 30 lakhs mark if not cross it.

Though I understand your sentiments of owning the RS, do check out the prices for the luxury trinity entry level offerings. Somebody on the forum got the 3 series 320i for 27.5 ex showroom. A bimmer..is a bimmer!

30 lakh is even what i am expecting, I am looking for an upgrade from the jetta 2 TDI, VRS version of the octavia surely makes me drool but then 30 lakhs is a good amount of money, And playing around with 30 lakhs in the used market is something else itself!

A bimmer may be a bimmer to many but for an enthusiast 217 bhp (Skoda Octavia vRS 2.0 petrol) v/s 156 bhp (BMW 320i) is well.........who cares about the bimmer!!!
Even the VW Polo GTI will have more power and torque than that bimmer.
