ŠKODA offers first glimpse of the new FABIA,

The world premiere of the new ŠKODA FABIA is set for spring 2021.

› New ŠKODA FABIA takes advantage of the Volkswagen Group’s Modular Transverse Toolkit MQB-A0 for the first time
› The latest generation of petrol engines are available for the drivetrain

Quote:
With the changeover to the Volkswagen Group’s Modular Transverse Toolkit MQB-A0, the ŠKODA FABIA is larger than its predecessor in all dimensions. For example, the boot volume, which was already one of the FABIA’s highlights, has grown by a further 50 litres
Quote:
ŠKODA has opted for state-of-the-art petrol engines for the fourth-generation FABIA. All the engines come from the Volkswagen Group’s EVO engine generation and combine high efficiency with low emissions. The new ŠKODA FABIA always comes with front-wheel drive, with a manual gearbox or automatic 7-speed DSG.

It looks as if the new Miss Fabia has a beautiful body indeed!

Re: Next-gen Skoda Fabia: Will it come to India?

2021 Skoda Fabia official images of camouflaged prototypes.

Prototype review Link

Quote:
Dimensionally, it has grown: length is up by 111mm at 4108mm and width increases by 48mm to 1780mm. The changes are accompanied by a 94mm- longer wheelbase and wider tracks – both of which play their part in providing the car with a distinctly more confident stance. Larger wheel housings also accommodate a new set of wheels that range from 14in to 18in.
Quote:
There are three engines in all, led by a naturally aspirated 1.0-litre three- cylinder unit featuring multi-point injection with either 64bhp or 79bhp. The majority of UK sales, though, are expected to come from a turbocharged 1.0- litre three-cylinder engine offering either 94bhp or 109bhp. At the top of the new line-up is a turbocharged 1.5-litre four-cylinder with 148bhp
Quote:
Front-wheel drive and a six-speed manual gearbox are standard on both of the three-cylinder engines, with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox standard on the four-cylinder,
Quote:
Our prototype test car, a mid-range 1.0 TSI model, runs a turbocharged 1.0- litre petrol engine developing 109bhp in combination with an optional seven- speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox.
Prototype review verdict

Quote:
The new Fabia is a clear improvement on its predecessor. It does what all mainstream Skoda models in recent years have done, offering a distinctive design, adequate performance in more affordable models like the 1.0 TSI driven here, fail-safe handling, impressive accommodation, a comprehensive equipment list, above-average quality and some clever interior touches.

Re: Next-gen Skoda Fabia: Will it come to India?

More details of the Gen.Next Fabia:

The new FABIA can have as many as nine airbags (most of them are fitted as standard; the knee airbags and back-seat side airbags are optional). And, for the first time, all passenger seats come with ISOFIX fittings and tether anchors for child seats. With maraging steel forming part of the body, the fourth-generation FABIA is one of the safest cars in its segment.

Fuel consumption is also reduced by outstanding aerodynamics: the drag coefficient is 0.28, the lowest in the small cars segment.

The FABIA is also a Simply Clever powerhouse.

Quote:
In total there are 43 Simply Clever features, and twelve of them are brand new. These include a USB-C connector in the central rear-view mirror and a kind of large multifunctional pouch beneath the luggage compartment shelf. The pouch can carry a total weight of 3.5 kilograms and is an ideal place to put your coat, for example. And old favourites like the ice-scraper in the fuel tank cap and the parking card holder by the A-pillar on the driver’s side have been kept.

So basically the Kushaq but without the extra ground clearance? Skoda spawning multiple products from one platform then like KTM did with the Dukes and Husqvarna

Re: Next-gen Skoda Fabia: Will it come to India?

Any idea why Skoda doesn't want to bring it to India? It was a fairly successful model at its time here, and similar products are selling well.

Re: Next-gen Skoda Fabia: Will it come to India?

Skoda Global CEO: Thomas Schafer clearly stating that Skoda India will avoid the hatchback area for foreseeable future.

"It’s a tough area to get into. From a business point of view, it’s very tough to calculate."
"This (hatchback) territory is a tough territory”

Given this clear statement from him coupled with the fact that Skoda is running the show in India, I also doubt whether VW India will ever get a Polo replacement.

Re: Next-gen Skoda Fabia: Will it come to India?

Skoda might not bring the hatchback to India. As we all know the hatchback buyers in India are probably looking for the most VFM and also many might be first time buyers. A lot of people will not even consider VAG cars even if they sell their products much lower than say a Maruti/Hyundai.

But there are numerous people who will really put their money on VAG cars. But again from a business perspective, that small numbers might not be enough for the companies to sustain and will not justify the amount they have to invest for producing the specific model.

Though a lot of us wanted to have the new age Polo or the new Fabia, the chances would be next to nothing. 90% of the people who complain about not having the new polo in India would not even buy the car if it is launched here. Or they would expect it to pay a similar or marginally high price compared to the current generation selling in India.

Polo selling in very low numbers for a hatchback. So we could expect the new Polo / Fabia will also sell in lower than that or at max at the same numbers only.(if it launched here)

Along with that, the uncertainty in our country about the taxes (new taxes can come from nowhere), electric car policy without infrastructure developments, new emission norms, localization etc will make sure the foreign investors will proceed only with caution. Resulting in substandard products or outdated product portfolio for Indians. It is all business, there is no place for sentiments. Who will be on the losing side? just us.

But if they decided to bring it here then it would be a miracle.

Actually Elite i20 sells 8500+ and Altroz does about 6000+ a month which is quite a healthy number (checked Jan sales thread). People want contemporary products and will pay a decent premium for it. Polo / Vento / Rapid have all been long in the tooth but bringing in Fabia name will be resurrecting it afresh. People don't recall it much to be honest. If Skoda brings the new Fabia in this price range, it might stand a good chance.

The hatchback segment is not a priority for the group in India. SUV's are a priority while the premium segment being spoken of Virtus/Skoda has probably export opportunities too.
Next will be a sub 4m C/SUV which will be explored by the group.

The hatchback in the likes of Polo/Fabia would come in a timeframe beyond 2023.

Not questioning their strategy - just that Fabia won't possibly be a flop if priced well.

Re: Next-gen Skoda Fabia: Will it come to India?

Skoda will introduce the all new Fabia in May 2021.

Quote:
Speaking of keeping costs down, the new Fabia won't be electrified at all, not even with a mild-hybrid setup.
