Re: Price expectations - New Ford Endeavour & Chevy Trailblazer

Simple case of under invoicing. The prices you see on this website are really no ball park to the final CKD prices of these cars. They will be priced at 25 Lakhs approx, this is pretty obvious given then pricing of the segment leader- The Fortuner.

7.3L? I can only go

I really don't think they can under-invoice so much so casually. But the Trailblazer falls in the same segment as Hilux and the pricing cannot be that dissimilar.

If the pricing mentioned is actually correct, Chevy has a real opportunity to garner some serious eyeballs and make some kind of a comeback. Their brand's value is very much in the dumps and any half measures will not do. They HAVE TO provide a product that is superior to and better equipped than the Fortuner and also undercuts its price.

And if that is indeed the case, 7.5L being a genuine factory price for the Trailbalzer, then image the kind of margins Toyota is enjoying on the Fortuner

If I remember right, Mercedes Benz India had imported B Class for around the same price for R&D. Then they started selling it for about three and a half times that price. I think even Trailblazer will be priced at that ratio.

I'm assuming there is no duty exemption for R&D vehicles.
If Ford's "Engineering Services" entity is registered as R&D unit, they don't have to pay Customs and Excise.

No, these prices are as invoiced by parent entity. This price does not include any taxes to be paid in India. Those are collected on top of this price.

Taxes on Endeavour would be approx 40 lakh. This would include Customs, Local body taxes etc. (unless exemptions applicable to R&D are availed).

That is expected, price that is charged to customers includes taxes (Excise + Local).

Both are top end models.

I'm assuming there is no duty exemption for R&D vehicles. Is there a reason to believe Chevrolet is getting any duty benefits despite both are CBU ?

Does it mean the Trailblazer is a competition for XUV 500 ? Looks like Chevrolet is aiming for 15-20 L range.

your thoughts ?
The cost column is not after duty price, its the price on which duty is to be levied. Therefore, the 21L figure seems very weird, as the price would be 40L after duties.

In Thiland, Innova and Fortuner are sold at similar prices.
Toyota philosophy is to sell cars for the max amount they can be sold. Fortuner sells at 24L ex showroom, so they sell it for that amount.
Hopefully, with the 15-20L segment getting some good SUVs(there is a vacuum there now), Toyota may need to rethink their pricing strategy.

There is a difference between selling something at thrice the actual price because of actual duties and levies and because you can get away doing it.

Merc's is the second case. Not just the B Class, the launch edition of the new C was imported at around 13.5L and then sold for 50L or so. Merc can do it. Chevy cant. They better not even try.

Chevrolet trailblazer pics to watermark

Spotted this heavily camo-ed SUV in Varthur road today. Initially, the greenhouse reminded me of the XUV500. But now I think this is the 2015 Endeavor. Immediately noticed stuffs:

- Rear diff (Obviously)
- LED tail lamp horizontally laid
- Right side mounted muffler
- Flared wheel arches

Couldn't overtake it on that cursed stretch of road!

ACI tests the Trailblazer in Thailand

On first impressions, it doesn't seem that great. The cabin looks cheap and the styling is pretty unappealing.
Also, it seems that it will be sold only via CBU according to ACI, which doesn't sound too good with regards to pricing.

Chevrolet Trailblazer on test near Kochi . The SUV is imposing but was being driven so sedately. It is being driven on the same route on National highway, can't understand the logic of testing it this far as the highways would be similar all over the country.

re: Chevrolet Trailblazer SUV brought to India for R&D. EDIT: Now caught testing undisguised pics - pg 6

I saw the review done by ACI on TV and I was disappointed by the overall design & interiors. The insides seemed particularly cheap and even outdated compared to the Fortuner which also struggles to justify it's interiors for the price tag it's going for. I wouldn't buy this Chevy considering it's going to be a CBU which means a price of close to 30 lakhs for the top end. I hope GM knows what they are doing because the 2016 Fortuner will annihilate this Chevy totally!
